Chinese here, for anyone that’s confused about the beginning, you are not playing as Wukong in this game but a character nicknamed “Destined one”, and you would go on several different journeys to unlock the secrets of the current world that are somehow crucial to the revival of Wukong. The world is set after the events in the Chinese classic novel “Journey to the west”, at the end of the novel, Wukong has finished his assigned duty and was named a Buddha by the Buddha himself, but at the beginning of the game it looks like Wukong has yet again done something that “annoyed” the celestials (because his character by design was a monkey king that does not follow any rules whatsoever) and thus was being punished, he mentioned “what I don’t understand is you killing my kind” was referred to in Chinese his fellow monkeys living with him in his mountains, so the celestials might have been slaughtering his friends as an act of punishment. At the end you could see that on his head there were a glowing ring which made him lose power, that is a direct reference to the novel that in which the Buddha put that ring on his head to restrain him at the beginning of the “journey to the west”. So the Buddha might have again activated it to help the celestials. This game has loads and loads of references to the original novel and as a Chinese this is a real treat! Really hope y’all enjoy this game and maybe dive into the “journey to the west” lore which is just a fantastic book that every single Chinese been familiar with growing up. 15:06 PS5 owner here… started playing right when it released. The graphics are pretty great and I haven’t noticed any frame drops. It definitely seems to be running steadily around 60. I know on PS5 there’s no way to know the Framerate for sure but it seems as consistent and smooth enough to other stable 60fps titles.

I’ve noticed some big drops in like very certain cases like this waterfall in chapter 1 anytime I moved my camera near it I had like 10 fps, other than that 0 bugs no crashes and frame rate has been very solidly consistent aside from few big boss attacks which has costed me a hit or two. Overall tho the gameplay and cinematics is fucking amazing. Enjoying it so much so far

Game Science cooked well, the God of War, Wo Long fusion dish. Couple of hours in on PS5, no bugs no performance issues. Only criticism I have is the excessive use of invisible walls and less than ideal lip-sync for the dialogue. (Edit: I do recommend Digital Foundry review on PS5 version though, while performance mode is stable 60 and there are no bugs, there are big technical issues with all graphics modes, most notably the uncapped framerates in quality and balance mode and input lag in performance mode...)

There's a handful of bad translations, and the game desperately needs an in depth info system similar to Armored Core 6, where you can hover over every icon and stat to get a description. Other than that the game kicks ass. Ps5 edition has had 0 issues for me so far. (I'm mid ch2) Stable 60fps on performance and it still looks crazy good. So far it seems like a slam dunk

Played till I got past the wolf boss. So far it’s played well and is fun. My only complaints so far is (1. that the enemies are too weak. I haven’t died or struggled with anyone other than the big blue dude before you head back towards the wolf boss. (2. I got off right after the second shrine to take a break for while and when I got back on it wouldn’t let me do the cicada transformation so I didn’t get to experience that.(3. After beating the big blue dude he dropped some blue wisp in the air, tried picking it up but said I needed guidance and it disappeared after resting. No idea what it was or if I had to defeat the fire wielding boss first.

Isn’t the protagonist and the guy from the beginning two separate people? And we’re tasked (as the new monkey) to essentially ‘revive’ the guy by collecting all six relics? Or did I misinterpret it and they’re the same person 😭
