I use the five stages of grief to explore the response to the Darwalls' wild camping ban, and ponder what unexpected consequences might arise from the court case.
Also, I join the Cornwood protest to raise Old Crockern, and worry for at least a moment that I might be burnt inside a huge wicker man by the residents of Totnes.

I feel guilty for falling behind in my KZbin queue of videos to watch. Just catching up with yours now and I must say, it's not a bad way to start a lazy Sunday morning! Beautifully shot as I've come to expect from you, and always a source of food for thought. Thank you for sharing, mate! One of my favourite (not a) podcasts. :)

"You gotta fight for your right..!" In all seriousness, this is an excellently executed video on this topic - touching more deeply on deplorable socio-political state we are in due to the greedy shenanigans of the few, that only serve those few. However, I believe that Justice will win. In the end, it always does.

A beautiful, thoughtful, charming, funny and at times poetic video. I suspect, were we ever to get into a discussion about politics (perhaps best avoided!), that you and I might have some differing opinions, but I think on this issue of land access we have a lot of common ground (pun somewhat intended). I have several times in recent weeks found myself explaining the situation surrounding our national parks to various people from overseas, and as I say the words out loud ("Yes they're national parks, but all the land is privately owned... and we don't even have access to some parts of them.") I realise just how ludicrous our predicament is.

Thanks Tweedy! Yes, it's a messed-up situation indeed. I think we've all got a lot more in common than we have that divides us... but I also agree that politics is a topic that's best avoided generally! No doubt I'll be back to chasing cryptids about or bothering nature in my next video!

the problem comes my friend when these evil tyrants who want a return to the old feudal system change trespass from a civil into a criminal offence.................. this whole sorry situation just feels like yet another jackboot in the nuts of the common man

The moor will nonetheless long outlast them. Even with liberties curtailed, all we can do is preserve what may be preserved for future generations.

Yeah, that's the worry - but I'm trying to be optimistic after the last couple of doom-laden, gloomy episodes. I feel that they've kicked a hornets' nest with this court case and might be facing more resistance than they expected. Fingers crossed for the DNPA's appeal!
@rialobran
@rialobran Жыл бұрын
I agree. It only takes the redaction of a few words from the new PCSC Act to make all camping illegal; Section 60C-E of the CJPO Act provides a criminal offence for “residing on land without consent in or with a vehicle”.

@@jonathanpork-sausage617 Labour didn't bring that in, it became law on 28th of June 2022. It was in the Conservative 2019 manifesto. I know because I made a film warning of it in January 2020. I've no time for Starmer, but blaming Labour for anything in the last 12 years is a bit blinkered.

Well thought out video as ever. Although (believe it or not) part of my job is the security of a large estate and approaching people trespassing and at times camping is something I've had to do. I don't like to do it, but it's a security risk if I don't. I am always polite and rarely have backchat but some of my colleagues aren't as 'welcoming'. I can imagine other estates could be much the same, I know I have had an attempted assault when trespassing myself on an estate. Some rangers are now issued bodycams, knowingly camping in the 'forbidden zone' maybe a mistake these days.

Unfortunately this is a win win situation for the DNPA , they tried to take away 40% of the camping mat before this even happened, but a campaign by the Dartmoor Access Group help to stay this off , there's no way they will win the appeal , due to the technicalities involved from 1985 byelaw , which means the landowners will retaliate by stopping all camping , and the DNPA get their final wish 😉 they're only doing this due to the national out cry.
@thedartmoorpodcast
@thedartmoorpodcast Жыл бұрын
Interesting! You think the DNPA secretly want to end camping, too? To me, it seemed that the areas they stopped camping in were genuinely based on conservation and preservation (e.g. Bellever which was getting trashed). But maybe I'm being naïve...

Fairly well nailed it in a well balanced way. But please don't give me the "I'm a member of the oppressed line". You are privileged too, You have a secure well paid job and you live in a nice place if my Geo-location (pun eh?) is correct. Dartmoor is riddled with the lesser and greater privileged. The workers have been driven out. The really poor would struggle to actually get there. That's the bigger picture. And don't give me the DPA are broke legends. They are the ones who introduced the original and recent camping ban are unelected and publicly funded.
@thedartmoorpodcast

Thanks Porky! Yeah, I suppose I'm doing okay personally... but I can still get angry on the behalf of others! As for the DNPA, they are getting a budget slashing, so it seems a bit rough that they have to go toe-to-toe with the Darwalls in court and have to pay other very rich people a fee for our permission to camp. Fortunately, it does now look like some of the landowners will be giving the fees straight back, though.

@@thedartmoorpodcast this "toe to toe with the Darwalls" thing?? whilst i somewhat agree that money buys everything these days (including dodgy judges it would seem) i don`t actually think that a top London lawyer is required in order to make a point to a jury (not that a jury of commoners is used in matters like this for fear of common sense being used!) that camping is not "FOR THE PURPOSES OF RECREATION" when it clearly is to any right minded individual . I don`t NEED to be 8 miles from the nearest town under a poxy nylon roof with a rancid pot noodle for my tea! i`m not homeless!! i own a house and a comfortable bed and a cooker and a fridge with food in it , the reason i`m out there is CLEARLY recreation , to choose to be out alone under a bazzillion stars is the very epitome` of recreation , i`m hoping this is the main push for the DNPA case
