If you can do the job it doesnt matter what you are. They would higher literal donkies if they could do the job. Women dont want to be firefighters, men dont want to either but when you can make a quater mil in overtime in 6 months they put up with it.

The actual story should be how much these firefighters get paid in overtime. Absolutely unreal.

@@deshaunjackson8188 hey there! former hotshot here. The most I ever made during a wildfire season was around $38,000. Not really unreal. That was after 120+ days on active fire from April-October and over 1000 hours of overtime. For many wildland firefighters, hours worked from May-October are equivalent to what most folks in 9-5s work year round. This is certainly different for structure departments, but I would hardly call pay at federal land agencies "unreal."

Wow, dude in the suit, that’s a lot of nice assumptions you got there. Hiiii… federal wildland firefighter here. We don’t make anywhere NEAR a quarter mil. Try $40-50K a year, and that’s only because we end up working 600-1000hrs over overtime every year. Get out of here. Some make a little more, some make less, but I don’t know any wildland firefighter who makes over $100K a year
