We cruised to NC to meet ‪@FinnegansGarage‬ and his sick 1000+ HP '55 Chevy so that we could get it tested, tuned and ready for the next Drag and Drive event. AND He offered to let me race the legendary car and get my NHRA license once we had it dialed! It was a thrash for the ages, and we aren't done yet!

Love it! I’m 52, been wrenching since I was 14, got a Porta-Power kit about five months ago. Now it’s like my best friend. It could mail or kill you if abused, cause safety third everybody. But seriously, if I had only known long ago, I could have saved so many hours, so many headaches, so many, “can’t be done”s. So much. They shoulda used the duckbill right off the bat. But try to use some kinda of “fly-away arrestor” for safety. Whether it’s a packing blanket or some heavy bungee cords strategically placed. Do it. Do it. Hydraulics blow hammer blows right out of the water. Combined, they can do magic. “When the pressure’s on and you just need a little nudge.”

I was howling with laughter when you guys were trying to remove the rear axles. I always used a cast iron three speed transmission case and a short piece of chain. I would stand with my back to the car and "throw" the transmission between my legs. The axle always popped out first time every time on my 55 Belair.

Ya got the right idea with the chain and weight. Back in the 70s we kept an old axle with a chain welded in the center of it. One guy on each end of the axle and 3 or 4 swings and out come the most troublesome of axles. Back then the splines would twist, making them tough to get out.

From my experience, making sure someone pushes on the axle so there is no slack on it makes it come out way easier when you tug it

You made the right call not driving the car. A "tune up" was plugs, points and condenser, but could also include rotor, cap, wires, oil change, radiator flush, etc.

First time I've seen that method of axle removal using a chain n block...if it works is it a dumb idea??? Nothing beats the sound of a hemi, god it sounds so dam mean!!! I can always tell the difference when a hemi dragster makes a pass and anything else. The hemi flys by and nearly knocks you off the stand and your whole body vibrates like thunder....hemi powa!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
