Another good option is rolling back. Ideally, immediately when you hit the ground before your opponent has time to re-assess the situation. You can still pull it off from your back by going high on the kick (not a stomp against the knees like in the video) aiming at the opponent's face. The goal is, of course, not to kick the opponent to the face (most likely, he will be too far away for that) but to create momentum for you to roll back. If you are really good with your back rolls, you should not need to use your hands and that will allow you to keep them up guarding your face from the beginning of the roll to the end when you are back on your feet. There is also the additional benefit that by rolling back, you are creating even more space between you and your opponent.

Everything you talked about is great. The only thing that I would add and it's only my opinion is, that when you're on your back, you must attack with your kicks to the knee. Go on the offensive! This throws your opponent off because they feel that they are in such a strong position. When you have the audacity to attack, they are surprised and they suddenly feel vulnerable because you are trying to hyperextend their knees. I saw this 1st 50 years ago when I was a kid and I've used it many many times since. This sometimes gives you anough temporary distance to do the technical standup.

Knowing how to break fall is very important. It saves you on the fall and gives you a chance to quickly get up. You should do a whole thing on break falling, I think that would make for good content.

Triggered. I sucked so bad at technical stand-ups in class. Those and my rolling breakfalls were enough to make Baby Jesus weep. But my own failings aside, great video. That little detail about orienting your foot sideways for kicking so you don't miss your target is such a small thing that could make quite a difference.

0:05 actually this happened in brazilian jujitsu, guy slipped behind me quick and out of muscle memory I used the shit I learned in Kyokushin (drop into horse stance, act like dead weight but at the same time your arms are doing anorher thing, its hard to describe but it gets you free) guessing he was a wrestler but it actually worked, gave me anough time to follow up with an Ippon Zeoi Nage (pretty mucb a shoulder throw)but yeah it worked for that situation.

That "technical standup" position is a regular position in capoeira. Pretty much beginner basic level. It's called negativa. And theres a lot that can be done throm there both offensively and defensively. Its definitely a good middle from standing, and total ground. Various kicks and footwork that can be done from there.

Although I've learned this lesson multiple times, it never occurred to me you could scoot away from your attacker. I thought butt-scooting was a pejorative for jiu jitsu fighters who pull guard and scoot toward their opponent. Also, another thing in mind is if your attacker comes for you again while trying to stand up, you can always fall to your back and get your legs between yall

this and how to fall properly, which its a skill that is shockingly neglected by seasoned martial artists. You can avoid a lot of unnecessary injuries if you know how to fall. Everybody is either scared or only wants to learn how to "kick ass".

This is not a criticism just an observation that’s all... I get what you mean that nobody intentionally wants to be on the floor but what’s stopping his mates soccer kicking your head while you’re defending with your feet on your back?
@michaelbarnhill2685
@michaelbarnhill2685 5 жыл бұрын
If, while on your back...you can keep your feet between you and the standing aggressor. Then they cant get close enough to soccer kick your head. Since, your legs are steadily firing off shots when the aggressor comes within range of them. If...you fail to keep your feet between you and the aggressor....that opens up the next step, entering into guard recovery drills. If they get past your legs, they are too close to socker kick you in the head...since...in order to soccer kick, they need space, and space gives you room to get your feet back between them and you. It's a simple answer...but requires at least some mild to pressure testing. Just like a boxers high guard...simple answer, but..you will get punched in the face a couple times as you get a feel for how and why it works.

Nothing Guard only works when there is only one person If there are more u need to role onto all fours (hands and feet not knees) as soon as u hit the ground And then start running away You’ll still probably take some kicks though

@@silver_tongue9644 yeah it is a gamble, a fighter with experience would know when to stay down and guard yourself or to roll back up and decide on what to do. Speed is always of the essence.

Last time I was in a fight the guy did this weird rage and rammed his body into me. Totally knocking me to the ground. He was on me quick but was able to raise my knees up and eventually push him off with my legs. Was able to literally climb his body with my feet because he was so tall and kicked him twice in the face. Was able to make him calm down a bit. I did need to brais my back with my hands to get the angle right. But got it done. 😅

Good luck with any aimed shot from that position. You are not..fighting...off your back. You are...surviving...off your back. And standing up as soon as it is safe. So....kick whatever you can kick. The objective of the kick, is to create your opening to stand up....NOT...to do damage. If it does, great. But that isn't the purpose.

There’s a better technique for this Im a bjj girl but grappling guards are shit for when u can strike What u want to do is spam straight kicks It’s really affective and can keep one person away very well But is mostly useless when there are more ppl Easiest target is groin or stomach for MMA But kicking to the leg when not in range of there torso is good to Watch out for them kicking back to your groin Kick into their kick to block it
