I remember 1984, my friend Dean leant me a book on the Rhodesian conflict. I sighed because initially I thought I was getting an SAS book about Britain and Northern Ireland. Out of boredom I read the Rhodesian book and I was completely blown away by the courage of men like your Dad. The civilised world has no idea of the bravery(!) And savagery (!!)on the other side. I thought Insch was a German name, but this video set me straight. What a Father!!

Very interesting. I assume that in both these 'aductions' you were still in Rhodesia, and not carted over the border into Mozambique? Seems a ludicrously risky thing to do to get up close and personal with the enemy, but I guess that just about sums up the whole Selous Scouts' philosophy! Did you receive a bravery award? It staggers me that in the entire Rhodesian Bush War there were only two GCV awarded. Compared to other countries, it seems that the criteria for top medals was exceptionally high. Talking of Gwanda, I have a relative by marriage who was the first white born at the church mission there. He's still alive.

These are remarkable stories I tell you what! Such an overlooked history and overlooked war that I find very interesting and fascinating! As an American and also former united States soldier at twenty nine years of age, I grew up learning the history of the first and second world war whom I have had relatives serve in, as well as relatives who served in Vietnam but not the soviet Afghan war, which I also find a great interest in. I find the history of the Rhodesian bush war and Angolan war far more fascinating than my own country's conflict in war. You men were and still are the salt of the earth and you did everything you could in your own hearts and minds to do what was right. Such a shame that we could not aid you all in any way as we chose to turn a blind eye to the fact. We knew what we did was wrong but we did anyway. please forgive my past generation sir. Keep up the good content and I wish one day to have some beers with old soldiers such as yourselves and hear first accounts of your actions firsthand face to face. Greetings from Mississippi!! Cheers mate!!

This American likes this video and highly recommends it. This American Has a Son in the U.S. Army Green Berets. My Uncles were combat veterans of WW2 . No one can Deny that the Rhodesian’s stand Tip Toe with the Greeks at Thermopylae , Henry the Fifth at Agincourt , the Brits at Rourke s Drift and the Marines at Guadalcanal and the Chosin Resevoir. The Rhodesian’s do have the distinction of fighting on in the face of overwhelming odds and adversities few other militaries have had to cope with.

It was lowkey Andrew young under Jimmy carter a friend of MLK and a legit commie who pushed the sanctions.
