Fighting Vipers did some truly unbelievable things with the Saturn hardware, and it played just as well as Tekken or Virtua Fighter ever did. Just like with Last Bronx, if you love Sega fighters, this one is a 100% must play!

Future Gohan Lmao I have no idea how that's relevant to anything, but I love it. That sounds right from what I can remember of him in the mid 90s :) He had the purple on in Wrestlemania The Arcade Game too, iirc

Only Wrestling reference that Fighting vipers has is to true Fighters this was our ECW at the time when it originally released.

Fantastic upload! Another gem from my teenage years. This game is a lot of fun! Having just read the description, I'm glad you mentioned the lighting effects. The Saturn actually had better Gouraud-shading capabilities than the PS. I read some years back that when using the PS's hardware light sourcing, you were limited to a palette of just over 32,000 colours, while the Saturn had no such limitations (not sure if you know more about that?). This meant smoother shading and a much wider range of colours available. You can see that that on Jane's stage, and on Sanman's stage you can see a lovely reddish sunset tinge. Compared to the lighting in Tekken and Dead or Alive on PS, the lighting here is more varied and vibrant, also more subtle. Not bad for a console that supposedly couldn't handle lighting effects!

Stanton Bentley Wow, i had no idea the PS1 was limited in that respect. 32k colors isnt bad, but yeah, gradual color shifts need more than that! The Saturn was amazingly diesel when it played to its strengths, for sure, though I do recall reading that this isn't running in the higher resolution (720x480, iirc?) in order to implement the lighting system and to keep the stage details intact without lowering the poly counts on the characters any further than they did from the arcade version. Seems like a fair trade-off - I doubt it would have looked enough better to be worry sacrificing how smoothly the game ran. And thanks!

Yet another title I'm super glad I got back in the day. I'd say only Fighters Megamix is an overall better 3D fighter on the Saturn than this one.

But even now there's no denying the short comings that caused it to flop in the first place are still as evident now as they were back in late 94-and 1995; it was one of the contributors to Sega exiting the hardware stage in 2001

yuvraj01 That totally sucked. The Dreamcast was amazing, but people seemed to generally not care at all about Sega at that point. Not that you could blame them after years of boneheaded waste. But the DC was so good, was loaded with great games in just about every genre, and within all but two years it was dying. I think Sega might've been able to redeem themselves if they hadn't disenfranchised their fans quite so many times with expensive, unsupported hardware, but they did and there wasn't any confidence left. I was happy to be a sucker who went for Sega again, though. I was glad I didn't write them off - I got to play NFL2K online in 2000 over dial-up! And the fighting games... drool.

Can you play as Sonic in the Saturn version of this game, or only arcade?
@alejandroaguilar1719 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, there is a lot of trolling by the programmers to play with hidden characters and not even the Shin Akuma code for snes since it was to pass the game at a high score and put kas and select it with a second control.

I know why they couldn't be unlocked, you would have to play 500 hours in human challenges, that is, a month to get it out, so it was impossible to get them out.
