As a kid, I fished a spillway for an old grist mill. There was a 95 year old man who lived local that also fished there. He had an old beat-up van with a cooler in the back with 20 lbs of ice and two 16oz bottles of beer. That was his limit his wife let him have. He had an ancient Mitchell reel. You could hear that thing clicking away over the stream noise, and it sounded like an old coffee mill. The next year he fell ill and passed away. His wife gave me the reel. I still have it 50 years later, and it is still as loud as ever.

I have several Mitchell 300 reels. I bought one cheap at a flea market but it looked like it had been laying in a tray of gasoline for a few years and half the paint was gone and some of the exposed aluminum was really pitted. I disassembled the whole reel and sent all the case parts and the rotor cup off to be sandblasted to raw metal. I got it back and did my best job of polishing the metal to as mirror of a finish as I could. I then Reassembled it and re lubed it and put some fresh line on it and immediately caught two nice large mouth bass. I can send you a link to the KZbin video of the finished reel if you’d want to see it. Personally, when the paint is as bad as they can be in some cases on these reels they look better with no paint in my opinion.

The reel came out beautiful. Any fishing reel that can last 30 to 50 years, or better, like the Mitchell's, has got to be worth it. I own about 15 Mitchell reels and they all work well as if they just came out of the boxes. Use 2 of them when I go to the river and I get the looks. LOL! MITCHELL'S we're made to last!!! That "noise" they make when reeling them in is a staple of success. Great presentation you guys did. Bravo!👍

Take you a permanent marker go over the little spots that don't have anything make sure you fill it all in and then get you some clear paint clear and it'll look like brand new

I would not be happy with that powder coating job if that was my reel.

Hello friend, I want to congratulate you for your video about the fishing machine. I have had the same machine since 1968. I got it as a gift from my uncle, so now I want to ask you something, you must know more about the fishing machine. How many meters of thread does it collect on the reel, if it is of the following thicknesses of fishing line, for example: from 0.18 mm., 0.20 mm., and 0.23 mm. If you know, I will ask you for an answer, if not, then I will ask one of your fans for this question. You can also point me to a website, where I can read about this question of mine. GREETING
