ROFL I know dude. You don't know how frustrating that was to watch live for me. I was rooting for Eddie hard. I've always been a huge fan of Eddie until he started shit talking everyone and being a douchebag, but I was so excited when he rocked RDA, and he kept fucking up over and over again. Remember that awful flying knee???? He almost ended up on the bottom because of that. If that happened RDA easily could've recovered. He's lucky RDA's chin is glass because it really was a miracle that RDA didn't recover with how sloppy Eddie's attempts to finish him were.

If one enjoys Robin's videos I have no problem with it: to each his own. The only thing is that this is not a breakdown. There was no technical analysis of either the fighting styles or techniques or strategies. Just some vague, subjective ideas about fighter's personalities. This is maybe color commentary, not breakdown.

Josse Noynaert Well, I beg to differ. I think most of his 'breakdowns' are exactly this kind of vague armchair-psychology kind of stuff. Him talking about Conor's flim-flam was not really a breakdown at all...

I think he does a pretty good job and he at least knows what he is talking about unlike those talking heads on ESPN. But i agree this video was almost no analysis of the fighters and just him talking about his "Sapp/Alvarez Scale"

Valar Morghulis I have no idea about ESPN, but if you want good fight analysis I strongly recommend Jack Slack. He writes articles on Fightland and also has a podcast. Dan Hardy does pretty good technical breakdowns on UFC's official channel. Heavy Hands podcast by Connor Reubisch and Patrick Wyman is also pretty good.

I'm not calling who's winning the fight, but I think they're overhyping Eddie. Yes he was Champion in Bellator, but Bellator is nothing next to the UFC. Second of all, Eddie's power is seeing stronger than it is just because he knocked out Dos Anjos, yet that's not the first time Dos Anjos has been knocked out, let alone be rocked. There's fighters like Robbie Lawler who just go all-out, risking everything, and they are just caught a lot more than other fighters. Other than Dos Anjos, who else has Eddie fought of high caliber? Cerrone, and he got whopped badly by him (except for round 1). Conor on the other hand beat Nate Diaz, a machine who beat the fuck out of Cerrone, and who would dismantle Eddie anyday if given the chance. I'M NOT saying Conor is a lot better, or that he is taking it hands down, but ya'll are sleeping on the boy who knocked out José Aldo.

Fundamentally the hate to this video seems to be from people who don't understand what's going on behind the curtain in these fights. What Robin is breaking down here is the psychology, the growth of fighters, their styles and willingness to employ a fluid strategy. Robin Black might be ADD, he might be slightly crazy, maybe even obsessed, but he has some of the best insights in the fight game media period. Robin Black keep doing you, because that crazy mma wisdom is appreciated by those of us who know the fucking fight game.

This wasn't even a breakdown. It was a rant about how each fighter has changed their style over time.

He does make a good point their is so many variables that this could go ether way.If Eddie swing like he did against RDA he is going to get lit up with mcgregor boxing, but if Eddie goes safe he could wrestle him all night long.It just depends on which connor and Eddie show up at which time

Robin I'm impressed. You're an insightful and cerebral commentator, with the rare ability to articulate abstracts in an engaging style. Your borderline cheeseball Columbia-School-of-Braodcasting announcer schtick was frankly off-putting at first, until the merit of your content became undeniable. Now I understand that the enthusiasm in your voice is not an affectation, but reflects a genuine love of the subject and the unique perspective you're about to unveil to your audience! Few commentators I know of can take distilled, overarching metrics of the fight game and recombine them to architect a framework like this. Plus there's something viscerally hilarious about Bob Sapp serving as the cringing extreme on what could otherwise be known as the Big Graph of Guts & Balls. Mad props.

Not that I am in any way qualified to assert such an opinion, but I could easily see this serving as a useful coaching tool, e.g. for formulating top-level strategies after a loss. It formalizes the interplay between broad-category behavioral patterns that must comprise and contain nearly every aspect of a fighters activities in the time between bells. Does anybody know of this or similar tools being utilized in said manner? Quants are using metrics more and more to analyze MMA so... just curious.
