I was just watching some of your old stuff the other day. And even though the taco lost, that throw was impressive. Honestly, I admire you guys for keep coming back and iterating your Taco, even though you guys kept losing lmao. Always the crowd's favorite though I'm sure. I know you guys prob won't do Krave Monster, but I really wonder what would a giant Krave Monster would be like in the cage, but no shaft so it's kinda pointless to build him but still, trapping your 250lb enemy would be impressive

Of course we are going to keep coming back! It's a Giant Taco it's not going to be getting a fantastic win-loss record right out of the gate, lol. Also the average budget for one of these heavyweights is between 12 and 15 grand, and we're like 1/3rd of that, so we're always going to be the underdog even if you were to ignore the meme-tastic design theme. Lots of problems could be solved with money: our shaft bent because we didn't use hardened steel, our bolts shared because we didn't have a fancy weapon hub design that would have doubled the cost, we run all our brushless motors pretty cool because we have no spare ESCs and can't blow one up, etc. But I'm not stressin, I'm just happy to be able to compete with a heavyweight - the road was long and difficult, and seeing it in the BattleBox is awesome. We'll keep making improvements. And I agree, a 250lb Krave Monster would be awesome. Maybe one day...

@@CarterHurd Yeah, I remember in your first taco video, you talked about how when it comes to design, your robot is either a meme or a machine that is designed to kill everything while looking like a scifi roomba. I just admire the dedication you have to spend so much time and effort to just go compete and have fun. Although something in me always roots for the little guy to get a surprise victory some day.

You can potentially counteract some of the gyro forces by using a gear/friction drive instead of belt drive, and rotating the motors counter to the weapon. There are some beetle-weight bots that use this very very well (they also use counter-rotating friction drive flywheels geared up to spin very very fast so they don't need much mass to get the right MOI). A friction drive might also be useful to avoid belts being destroyed too. Dunno, but if low and wide drum spinners can get flipped over just from gyro forces alone, then a weebly wobbly bot would probably be devastated by them.

Taco Tuesday is awesome! Love the unorthodox design and theming, it's definitely a huge departure from the 2WD/4WD vert archetype. As for improving mobility, maybe some rare earth magnets on the bottom would help? I know Shatter from Bots FC rides on omnis and uses the magnets for improving traction. Not sure how well they'd stay attached to a UHMW shell though, maybe thru-bolt mounts to the frame if that's possible?

The second match is about what i expected. Perhaps TT could use a rear counter flywheel to remove the gyro malice . Also no reason it can't also have fork or wedge

For your Omni, you may try casting the rollers out of a Urethane for better grip.

@@CarterHurd it’s not too hard of a process if you using VytaFlex. Worse part would make making wheel hubs, but with the pcb way sponsorship you may be able to outsource them. I’m sure you’ve seen people doing it already.

What a fun robot this is. A weapon at the front and a similar one at the back, would that improve manoeuvrability when at full speed? If 2 weapons have to be lighter in weight, 1 disc per weapon or maybe drums?

That's awesome to see the taco perform! I hope to make a 250lb version of my bot some day so Taco Tuesday is an inspiration to all of us! I would say their might be a few things you can do to help with your drive issue along with weight distribution. One would be magnets, a few well placed ones in the middle rear of your bot and it would help significantly with the bot swinging wildly or not turning at all with gyro. Or you could also try a counter rotating mass to try and help with the gyro, both would help significantly with driving. Hope this helps!

oh and machine some dowel holes to fit around your bolts at mating surfaces like on a automotive transmission bellhousing. also torque your bolts to maximum spec for size and material to ensure you get the shear friction necessary to keep that happening again

The taco design is just so immaculate to see with the uninvertible shell and the really interesting drive system, And then after a few minutes I thought of the stupidest idea for a configuration. My proposal, burrito. A burrito shell of 1/3 inch UHMW for hammer saws and a two small forks in a v like normal sized taco. I don’t know why I commenting this I just thought it was funny

Can you replace the bolts with something less prone to being sheared off? Like big honkin' pins? Or a bracket that couples the parts from the side instead of putting all the force on one small cross section at a time?

I think instead of an omni wheel, you should try swerve drive. That way, you don’t have to rely on friction to make a turn or to go straight.

@@CarterHurd It's definitely slightly better than previous vids, but the problem's still there; I think all you really need to do is duck the background audio of the fights etc. while you're talking. What film editing software do you use?
