i been writing my whole life and always dreamed of having my own animation studio. i creative in some ways and not in others. it would take years to bring that into fruition, maybe it wouldn’t. but with these tools it’s been helping me bring stuff to life that i had tucked away. or dreamed of the night before. i been waiting for this ai stuff since i was a kid. glad i got to experience it. it’s like every other tool. can be used for good and bad, people will embrace it or hate it.

It may destroy some jobs, but it also opens up the opportunities for more people to compete with what has typically been large teams with big resources and budgets. I think AI will change the industry but in many ways for the better.

It reminds me of the initial fight against drum machines. Nowadays very few music writers use human drummers in the writing and production process, but there are still niche jobs and especially in live music.

This is for sure cool and a handy jumpstart tool. But it's still generative AI that doesn't understand the code it's generating. It isn't going to get around framework bugs, bad API data, race conditions, etc.

A misconception in AI taking jobs: It takes jobs from the mediocre worker. In almost every job, there is a threshold of hard workers (obviously we can't all win a race). Its usually around 20/80 (%). So the top 20 are pulling the bottom 80 along. AI (depending on how its implemented) usually allows the bottom of the bottom, the worst say 20% to be as efficient as the majority 80%. It however doesn't take away from the top 20%. This is because that group knows more, is interested more, evolves faster, works harder. So it will make their jobs easier, but put them further ahead than the 80% of mediocre workers. AI levels the playing field for mediocre people, not the top performers. It actually creates a larger efficiency gap. So if you're complaining, now you know where you are on the playing field. Happy designing. Also, this applies to every field, remember that part.

Was the first example really a ‘form with filters for a recipe app’? Where was the form? I see some filters but I don’t see a form. Maybe the AI created the desired outcome but it goes to show that the prompts we use are clearly really important after all for me that’s not a form!

Sometimes the design creates either too much whitespace or has elements so sparse that it results in much more mandatory scrolling than needed.

Shady business by defaulting users in lowered tiered plans to opt in their designs as trainable data. Adobe did something similar and is paying the price for it now. The real question is, will Figma lose customers as well?
