2004 England had a perfectly fine goal disallowed in the last moments of normal time, and in 2006 Rooney was unfairly sent off because of Ronaldo’s crying to the ref. Neither game would have ended the way they did if these incidents hadn’t happened. If there had been VAR then, England would have definitely won 2004, and probably won the 2006 game. Portugal were extremely lucky in both circumstances to have the referee on their side.
