i loved those wcw figs, i had the first and 2nd lines, i wish i still had them they were very fun, i feel like alot of figures lost the detail unless you buy an "elite" or "ultimate" the basics just seem lacking in detail and articulation, i maybe just blinded by nostalgia lol

Power Rangers staying within Top 5 in 1999 is amazing. Feels like the Lost Galaxy year doesn't get enough credit for surviving a market dominated by the Monday Night Wars and a new Star Wars movie.

This type of thing always fascinates me. I'm a toy collector, and my dad is too. I've never been opposed to any type of toy, I love figures, dolls, lego, etc. Think a lot of it is that my dad encouraged me to collect whatever my heart desired as a kid. My dad started collecting around this era, because his first present ever from my mom was a wrestling figure. This was right before I was born. My dad loves to look at everything, even if he doesn't collect it, yet he's never told me much about what the scene was like in the late 90s/early 2000s. Idk, weird sense of nostalgia for a time I could never experience, yet it makes me think so much of my dad. Also because I had some hand-me-downs from around this time, usually defects or just figures my dad fell out of love with lol.

I was 4 in 1999 and this was the year when my parents decided it was time for me to graduate to action figures. I still have quite a bit of these figures (namely Pokémon and Toy Story, and those Spider-Man/Venom/Carnage/Wolverine figures were my first Marvel figures, which i got in 2000. Speaking of, yes, absolutely do the 2000 vid. Hope to see some more familiar toys (namely the Gen 2 Pokémon figures and Spider-Man Classics Series 1). Also wish I was really into wrestling back then. My dad had a few figures from circa 1996-98 from WCW, and I got a pair of Stone Cold and Undertaker walkie talkies for Christmas in 1999. I didn't really get into wrestling until 2004 and wish I still had those

What makes the the most surprised to hear is that Power Rangers were still near the top selling action figures by 1999. Maybe it was different i the US, but here in Sweden at least the Power Rangers era as a huge phenomenon was over by 1996 at the latest.

I'm there with you! From my memory, we (everyone of that age group at the time) all collectively moved on from Power Rangers. By 1999 it wasn't the cool thing to watch anymore - literally everything else had taken its place!
@wolfman2102 ай бұрын
@@FigureCollections You're right, Power Rangers had actually fallen off after MMPR and by Turbo the ratings had gotten so bad In Space was meant to be the final season. But In Space and Lost Galaxy rode the sci-fi boom Star Wars' revival in the mid-late 90s had caused. Just like MMPR rode the early 90s dinosaur craze Jurassic Park caused. In other words Saban did the impossible and caught lightning in a bottle twice.

I was buying all the Star Wars action figures and vehicles I could find, plus all the Timeless/40th Anniversary G.I.Joe reproduction rereleases. And what I remember most is how easy it was to go to the toy aisles and FIND them all. Such a huge difference from today where that has become impossible. Half or more of every toy line I buy requires online purchases. "The hunt" has radically changed and not for the better.

Subbed you're definitely my people dude you could've replicated any moment with the bone crunchers but chose Mick's title win that happened a few days before my 15th birthday & Mick has always been my favourite of all time even back in 90s WCW. I remember the Ken Shamrock sculpt being amazing as I was a UFC fan but there weren't any UFC figures til like 2005. I remember being upset the next generation was the solid titantron style I was too old (In my younger brain) for figures at the time so I just felt bad the next generation had crappy titantron builds like the commissioner Michaels figure in bonecruncher series functionally useless.

The Vs Series & Tomy’s Pokemon figures were my crack as a kid 😩 I bought some of the packs like Captain Commando vs Venom three times cause I overplayed them and they get destroyed 😭 There was a store that I remember sold imported Tomy figures. I don’t think every PKMN got repackaged for the west so those imports helped me fill out my collection. I still have some of my other toys like Mario Kart bowser, Movie Cyclops & Hollywood Hogan laying around somewhere, of course they have also fallen apart. They should probably get thrown away but they have sentimental value 😅

It was a whole lot needed in 1999. Luckily I was a kid in 1999, so I actually played with my toys, and used my imagination. But I would imagine for adults, it must've been really shameful, because there was really no internet to share your love with other nerds. And I know someone will tell me there was internet in 1999. But it was the nerdy dark web of the dial-up era. Back when it would take 25 minutes to download a 20kb picture. Now it's so open, and you can show the world. And even most of the world won't care, there's less judgement. Especially from younger generations. The old-heads, and the WWII generations still judge. At least what's left of them. But now it's an era of apathetic indifference. They see you have a toy collection. They don't care. But instead of judgement, they just think "eh whatever, that's his thing, not mine" and they move on with their life. There's a lot less shaming now. And a lot of that has to do with celebrities showing their odd and eccentric collections. They made it acceptable in the mainstream. The only time anything that was once ever considered taboo, becomes mainstream, is because a celebrity endorsed it, and brought positive awareness to it. Getting away from toys, if you were born in the 90s, or earlier, you're old enough to remember when crocs were the laughing stock of the shoe world. You were the lamest, most uncool person if you wore crocs. You were literally getting made fun of. Those same people who hated crocs, are the same exact hypebeasts who love them now because Justin Bieber and Post Malone started wearing them.
