With all of the life changes that's happening in our family, it's really time to simplify this backyard flower farm. Pregnancy has taught me so many things already and has forced me to slow down and adapt to the change that's happening. Growing flowers and running our backyard flower farm brings me so much joy, but I've been struggling to come to terms with what that means with pregnancy and how long I can actually continue growing the flowers.
In today's vlog, I'm sitting down for a good old chat about these things and also how I've been feeling about KZbin and social media in general.... I also give you a tour of the backyard flower farm and an update on all of the veggie seedlings!

Hey there!
Welcome to my channel, The Nature Patch where I like to share all things gardening, cooking, environmental science and flower farming in my Australian bushland backyard in south coast NSW.
My name is Robyn, an environmental scientist, and flower farmer. I have recently completed my PhD in understanding how people's wellbeing and their connection to nature is impacted by land use change but now I'm taking a break from research to pursue a dream of owning a flower farm. I've always loved gardening and nature and lately have been interested in growing my own organic food!
On this channel you'll find videos relating to garden tours, 'how to' videos, composting, soil health and how to start a flower farm.
I try to upload twice a week and I hope you enjoy!!
🤎 Filmed and edited on Yuin country. I acknowledge and pay respects to Traditional Owners of the land past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Hello my dear you know I am a fan of the beer traps for slugs. I do have a suggestion for you if you can use even shallower things like lids you will probably have even more success.

Lovely vid Robyn. Love your honest sharing I’m 48. Living on Gold Coast. 3 children 13-27 and an 8 Yr old granddaughter. I adore motherhood. Pregnancy was always Yes ver challenging on my mental health. People always want to ask about pot party depression. I have always experienced pregnancy depression. Not saying that’s what is going on for you. I can tell you that I love every one of my grown babies and the challenging months we’re all worth it. Please take as much rest time as you can. Growing a baby is a big job. I’m happy to watch anything you post 🌻🌻🌻🥰

Your gentleness is enough for me. I don't really mind what you talk about I'm here for it all, I find your slow pace of life refreshing. Maybe as a suggestion you could make more about the individual flowers you grow? From seed starting to harvesting! ❤

You’re right Robyn you are going through a huge identity shift. I worked in my office job up to the last month of my first pregnancy .. then suddenly I was in another world without the routine of work and all the people company and mental focus of work so at least you are able to articulate what you are going through .. its very normal .. a day at a time

Pregnancy really does change you in ways you never imagine! Both times I became so black and white in my thinking; whatever wasn't going to benefit my baby and I was kicked to the curb 😂 That even included certain friendships, acquaintances were cut completely from my life and social media took a huge backseat. It's a massive time of change, shifting of priorities and your maternal protective mama bear instincts kicking in! P.S. Super proud of you masking up when mixing soil in pregnancy! ☺️

I'm glad you're being gentle on yourself. I felt there was so much change with my first bub. I had to find some different ways to still be me, but it all comes back eventually and also you grow and evolve in unexpected ways. Also very happy for you that Scott is such a supportive partner. xo

I've always loved your videos. They are so calming and peaceful and I'm so inspired by them. I love to see what food you are growing and I love to see the cats. I'm really looking forward to your Seed Collection video. I like to order from them, as well. Thanks for your wonderful content. I love it, all. Best wishes with your pregnancy and arrival of your baby.

Beautiful video as always Robyn! Looks like you have an army of Mums on here who are here to support you now and onwards, me included. You’re doing a fantastic job juggling life and all the things. Loved the parrot noise too, so nice. I love everything you put out so I have no specific feedback, just keep doing what you’re doing but always put yourself and family first ❤

It is definitely possible, but not easy. My son is 3 now, but I remember him being in my flower studio and then going to the market with me. My garden did get very untidy, and it pained me, but pregnancy totally took it out of me, it’s a very frustrating time, but your body will be your own again. I didn’t start my KZbin channel until my son was 1 and honestly I’m not sure that is something I could have done at that time, so I’m wishing you a good healthy pregnancy, and good luck with the growing.

Oh that’s lovely to know! I’m hoping our little one likes being outside and out and about. I’m very much expecting a messy garden this summer - but hoping to enjoy a few harvests here and there ☺️

I was gardening all through both of my pregnancies. One thing I wish I did more of was asking for help. Invite a friend around for a planting party. They offer extra energy, and you offer tea, coffee, or wine. Bake a cake, have BBQ, and enjoy an afternoon with friends. Meanwhile , a slow vlog about your garden is always enjoyable!

I feel the same about social media. It’s a hard one, because I need it to run my business, but it drains me too. I found having a baby and growing very difficult but my garden wasn’t on my property, it was quite a drive away. If it had have been, I think it’s totally doable on small scale!

Social media can be so tricky :/ yeah I think it’ll depend on our little one for how much/if any work we can get done on the property. We shall see ☺️

I tried the beer traps but found they were not doing as well as I hoped. The evaporation of the beer/cost to keep filling was not really viable. The best thing that worked for me is going out after dark with a head torch and just picking them off manually. I got SO many in just a couple of nights. I have been doing it every few days now and noticing less and less each time.

Are you able to recommend an Australian based cut flowers book I’m going to extend out to more that just growing dahlias this year and I seem to be confusing myself with all the American videos I’m watching needing something based on our climate with no snow.

Nice to see that I am not the only one who is dealing with satin birds (Bowerbirds) The green ones can be females or immature males. They are a menace and will eat anything and if there is any hole in netting, they will find it. The other alternative is you do a Ma kettle impersonation sitting on a rocking chair, straw hat with a blunderbuss to scare them away.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@thenaturepatch
@thenaturepatch 19 күн бұрын
Hahah might have to try that as they’ve actually eaten most of the plants I planted in one bed :/
