@GadgetryTech I appreciate the thorough review including your relative subjective comparisons with the inclusion of your objective measurements (and specifying which measurement rig you're using). The FT1 PRO really seems tough to beat as a planar at this price, and the same goes for the dynamic FT1. All the better to push the competition towards better performance and quality at more reasonable prices! Considering the level of performance combined with the inclusion of a good quality balanced cable and a basic but usable hardshell clamshell case, this really is a good value. IMO, considering their size and BOM, the prices for some of the high-end headphone offerings these days are honestly ridiculous. I would have gone into the headphone & IEM business long ago if I knew I could make these exorbitant profit margins and ROI! :-P With this video I'm a new sub, so I'll look forward to your future reviews as well as checking out some of your past reviews. I got FT1 from Fiio at ail express. the cups detached from the holder. had to remove the screws and reattach it again both of cups actually. the paint has little bit scratch but not obvious. I have rattle in the left cup with boosted bass and when I checked what u mentioned at this video, I found the vent is little bit loose like Urs, but the other one is normal. My main usage is gaming, and this headphone is better than HD 560s at any aspect for me. imaging is better. separation is better. the sound stage isn't wide as the HD 560s, but it is very good for closed back headphone. btw this is my first real closed back headphone and for me for gaming it is better than the open back. I don't want anyone take me opinion as a reference or build his decision on it. my complain is the quality of cups holder and the hinge mechanism and the length of the cable and the sound it causes when moving the cord. Sennheiser is overhyped, I think. may be the only thing is better about the HD 560sis that it has better bass extension I mean the vibration of the bass. some reviewers said that the ft1 is bassy, but it isn't at all it has good bass but for people who like high deep rumble bass I think it isn't. I used it with FiiO k5 pro ess with lowest gain at max 2 o'clock and it is loud enough. and thx for Ur review
@Enzo_5602 ай бұрын
Would you say the FT1 Pro is also more visceral and punchy than the Edition XS and other planars you heard (is it maybe close to Focal in this aspect)? Will the rolloff in the bass at 30hz cut out deep rumbles in games like Space Marine 2 or was it still good at that? And last how did its soundstage compare to Edition XS or Arya? Thanks, been waiting for your take on these and the video provided much needed insight!

i agree with your video, but i had three units, all had excessive planar crinkle and the screws were shot on all units. crinkle also didn't get much better over the course of a couple of weeks...got an Edition XS instead...the irony of getting a Hifiman due to better QC is not lost on me. Another thing i want to mention is that the Edition XS are A LOT better with EQ. so if you want to adress the bass, you will not be doing a lot on the Fiios (not saying its essential, they sound pretty good. just want to mention that there is a lot of headroom with the XS and there isn't any with the Fiios)
@RyanH0809Ай бұрын
These seem really compelling to me as someone who's trying to dip their toes into planar magnetic without breaking the bank. I bought the Maxwell's, partly based on your coverage and at first, really loved the sound. I ultimately had to teturn them for some strange wireless issues that i couldn't figure out. But the size, weight and clamping force do bother me over time.

My FT1 Pro also has an issue, there’s a rattling sound with low bass notes! Maybe it‘s also the bass port grill… I‘ll have to check it out. EDIT: The pair I got in return from the seller I bought them from had the exact same issue. I've contacted them and they told me that all FT1 Pro headphones have a driver error that can cause these problems because of the headphones' high sensitivity... there also have been reports of some of the screws used on these and the FT1 breaking. It seems like FiiO has some QC issues they really should get under control.
@letalmikeАй бұрын
Mine FT1 Pro did that too and also huge channel imbalance in left earcup and way too bright. I think these are just overhyped.

@@captainbozo01 I'd just return mine, told them to send a new one and told them before sending it to me, to open it and test Eminem Killshot to hear if there's a deep-sub bass issue rattling again. Dude you are really the best youtuber in this space, the crazy thing is, it is just a side project for you. You are very inspiring. I got my unit yesterday and was curious if the boom mic cable of my Corsair Virtuoso Pro would fit into the deeper sitting ports. Conclusion: They fit perfectly and I don‘t need another mic solution for chatting on discord. After testing the headphones yesterday, I really understood what you mean by feeling the bass. Even on the breathing side of the driver you can feel how tight the bass is. I did no eq and it just sounds near perfect to me. I am especially happy because couple days ago I considered to buy the Edition XS and had a Big concern regarding the sharp treble. The timing of your video for me was very helpful. I find the most interesting comment is that you perceive the FT1 Pro compared to normal FT1 closed as more visceral, did I get that right? :O That's one of the things I'd had wished were better on FT1, I don't want more bass (In fact I thought it had slightly more subbass than I'd personally need) but I'd ideally wanna feel the bass more so in genres like Trance and Hardstyle I want to feel the beats pumping against the ears/skin more, I think with the aftermarket pads I mentioned in my other comment and giving a slight bump in the EQ (68Hz, +2dB Q: 1.1) will help a lot, it's close to the headphones I like the most when it comes to how it portrays the bass then. Otherwise I like the FT1 sonically a lot, my other gripe would be the somewhat lower clamping force but with the other pads it feels more secure on the head. I'd love the feel of the flat cups on the FT1 Pro, they feel a little huge on the FT1. Typically I've not been that impressed by planars when it comes to bass in particular when comparing with dynamic drivers, seems to miss that punch and impact I tend to look for.

Thanks for the review, been deciding between the Edition XS and Fiio FT1 Pro for nearly a week now. This FR is ridiculously close to HE400SE. It's like the same measurement but with a boost in subbass.

How close are the FT1 Pro and Audeze Maxwell? What does each do much better than the other?

I would like to ask about the topic of comfort. Will there be a feeling of heat? Because I usually wear headphones for gaming 8-10 hours and will it cause neck pain if compared to dt 990 pro?

FT1 Pro vs Meze 105 AER, what do you think? Thanks, great review!

Another commenter on the 105 AER vid said the Meze has a more lively and bubbly treble vs the FT1 Pro

How would you compare these to EML6? I currently primarily use TANGZU Wan’er S.G for gaming/music with EQ. I also have ATH-M50. I'm considering adding these to my collection or a EM6L.
