Is there a possibility that the Fiji Police Force, the family of the offenders and their Village Heads work together to mould and coach the Offenders to become a productive member of society? For example, if an iTaukei offends, their names can be cross checked with the VKB from the iTaukei Affairs and arrangements made for a counselling session to be done with their Turaga ni Mataqali, Turaga ni Koro or whoever in the village is delegated for the counselling, to sit with the offender and his family and have an open discussion where the root cause of the problem can be addressed and the offender can serve their sentences doing community work and all. It is always embarrassing that whenever an iTaukei offends, one of the common questions asked by the public is "which village are they from?" "Which family are they from?" Since everyone in Fiji is related one way or the other. We can then promise ourselves that we will bring back the old saying "Fiji the way the world should be".
