File Sharing Over A Network in Windows 10
How to share folders without HomeGroups and password in Windows 10
This is a real simple way of sharing movies, documents, photos or whatever you want on your home network.
With HomeGroup feature removed from Windows 10, this is the quick and easy way to share data in folders, computers and hard drive on your home network.
So just follow my step by step guide on How to set up file sharing in Windows 10. I will show you How to enable network discovery and configure network sharing options in Windows 10.
If you want to share your printer on your home network with other computers or devices, then you will need to enable file and printer sharing, because I am on my home network, I disable password protected sharing, this makes it easier for people on your home network to see your computer and access your files, so this will be Windows 10 file sharing without password.
So follow my steps and you will be able to share any folder without password in Windows 10
So if you want to learn How to share a folder or hard drive on your home network

I've tried to set up files sharing on my Windows 10 network a half dozen times.... each effort representing hours of effort, leading eventually to failure and a sense of resignation; only to be followed after some period of time by a renewed effort, sparked by the belief that "I've got to figure this out eventually". And so it has continued, for at least 4 years (maybe more)... until now, when following your specific steps, I was finally successful! I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH.... so just a single heartfelt "Thank you" will have to suffice.

Brilliant. We only discovered today that we can no longer share files or use the printer form the laptop. Don't you just love it when Microsoft changes things, but can't be bothered telling you what they have done or, more importantly, how to work with the changes. Thank you so much for this excellent, easy to follow guide. We will be giving it a crack tomorrow. Pity Microsoft couldn't be as helpful.

Yeah. We finally got it working - just as it was before Microsoft changed everything without telling us. Initially we could share the printer but not any of the files. After a bit of frustrating head scratching we discovered that the fault lay in the laptop. It too needs to have the settings changed so that Network Discovery is turned on in the Guest or Public section.

I've been racking my brain for about 2 days trying to work out why I was getting a permission-based error message on the computer I was trying to access my 'shared' file on... I was setting the Permissions and Security and even tinkered with the workgroup... Now I realise I didn't look at the very bottom and still had the bloody password protected sharing turned on... what a clip

I have spent all day working on this, but your advice helped me fix the issue sharing a folder between two PCs. It seems that Windows 10 has too robust of a security setup in regards to shared folders. I had to enable or disable a ton of different things. When I finally got to the point whereby I could login to the remote drive, with the target folders. I found that the folders could be seen, but not accessed (no permission). Oddly enough, I went "Folder options" on the target PC and enabled "Use sharing wizard". That still did not fix the error, but when I ticked the sub menu item " Automatically type into search box" that fixed the problem. Lol. Come on Microsoft.......... something as simple as sharing a folder should not be this difficult.

Funnily enough, I went to my Control Panel (not PC Settings) and found I still had an Infrared option, even though my PC doesn't have an IRDA port. The only time I ever used IRDA was back on Windows 98SE and the Matrix style_esque Nokia 7110 to connect to the internet. A whole whopping 3,660kbps folks. Nice!

Also, sorry Microsoft but I'm going to split hairs here, but at 7:06 don't you think MS should update the shared network icon? That icon is representative of a 10-Base-T, or Token Ring, network before the CAT5 standard was introduced. Pretty sure no network, personal, corporate or otherwise, still uses Token Ring networks. Even a 10/100 NIC that's not Gigabit is still faster that Token Ring. Sorry to rage my 2 Cents on your video there Brian, I just wish MS would stop having and using a 20 year old backbone for their Operating Systems and icons.

I have had the same problem since last year. We have two desktops, 2 laptops, a media laptop (a re-used old laptop) and a NAS box on a cabled home network. All 5 pC's are on WIN10 Home and the NAS box is a Unix machine. Almost consitently all PC's can access the NAS box and all can access the internet without a problem. Whether any of the PC's can see each other seems to vary day to day! None of the PC's can transfer files to each other over the network although all can to and from the NAS box. (Note there is no WIN 7 PC's on the network so the problem is not as identified by IGottaFixThat) I have, literally, spent weeks trying to get the network to work (it was working up until sometime last year). I can sometimes transfer between 2 PC's in one direction only but the ability disappears overnight! I am not an expert but have set up a number of networks for my former company and had the home network working perfectly under WIN 7. I have used a couple of public help desks and consider myself to have had exceptional help - but it still does not work! I had a chat to the guys at my local PC repair shop. The lead technician said that he was having the same problem. I 'bit-the-bullet' and got in a microsoft certified network engineer (after the nagging of my wife and at great expense). After 4 hours he had got no further than I had and admitted that, even if he did get the network working, re-booting would probably screw the whole lot up again! IT SHOULD NOT BE THIS DIFFICULT!!!! Late last year I was told in an online forum that Microsoft have effectively disabled peer to peer network support in WIN 10 but that they were looking to put it back in in the fall update. Fromwhat I can see of the proposed fall update it is not being put back in! I AM ANGRY!

Hi Ian, The post was originally for a Microsoft help site - it would not upload - good move Microsoft!!! I have partially got arround the problem by using a 2 step process (PC ->NAS->PC for transfer and setting up a search app on the NAS) but this is FAR from satisfactory and relies on backups to the NAS being up-to-date for searching.

I know you have to change the Group Policy settings on the PC with the shared folder. It's a list of settings witch you can enable/disable. When you hover mouse over each item, a description shows up. Example:Windows Defender could be disabled by going here. Not sure exactly what name, since I'm away from PC, but has something in the lines of SMB NTFS Permission which focuses on remote network folder/volume sharing and Shared Folder Permission. When you read the description of each option, that will help you narrow in on the task you need to do and help you enable or disable the option. Good Luck

I’m looking to create a “shared folder” with a colleague of mine who works remotely (i.e. a folder easy to navigate via file explorer). I simply want a folder called “Z: [Business Name]” where we each can access/add/modify files via file explorer and have them stored locally on each of our laptops for indexing. 2 Quick Questions: -Question #1): Since my colleague works remotely, can he still access the shared drive on the network (he's in a different location)? -Question #2) I just purchased two licenses for one drive for business (standard), but is this best solution to accomplish my goal? Side Note: I’d prefer not have all our company information “in the cloud,” but I’d be open to onedrive just for backing up data (although we can probably do this locally - we both have a lot of data - or maybe via an external hard drive?)
