Herbie's a good boy and seems like you are doing great getting him over it. My boy had to be muzzled when he got his nails trimmed, too, when he got old. The vet thought that his feet just hurt and that's why he hated it being done. Those soft muzzles were great for him, too- he wasn't bothered by it at all. Looks like Herb doesn't mind either! No reason to take chances. I'm amazed at how chill ALL your other dogs are with it, so it's very clear that you know what you are doing!

Buddy and Charlie are so chill. Daisy, too. Herbie is trying his best, and Oliver still has some puppy in him. I don't know why but Daisy reminds me so much of a large border collie I had as a kid. She is a special girl. You are so good with them. Love the videos!

Wow, that's a short time for 5 big dogs! We had to figure out that the dogs laying was the best position. I wouldn't be able to do it alone. Hubby does it, and I'm there to pet & cheer them, and make sure they don't move suddenly. That's for the girls. My only boy always has perfect nails, without trimming; but sure, I would muzzle him if needed.

Animals have amazing memories. Our dog came home from the groomers with a nail cut into the quick. He was still bleeding. (No, we never went back). It took so long to get him OK with going anywhere near his feet. Muzzles are certainly appropriate for safety if Herb is nipping at you. You are so patient with him.❤

You are my role model. I try to get my goldens to let me down their nails, but they act as if I just asked them to let me shoot them. Then I feel bad for them and I don’t do it. It’s amazing how well your pups are trained.

I had black rescue GSD. A good sized boy who would scream, cry and thrash about when it came time to trim his nails. I have to admit he never got the hang of it and our vet would often sedate him.

They are so good getting their toes done! They learned trust with their feet as pups. I always rub feet and trim nails with my dogs so they get use to it. My boxer loved having his feet rubbed. The others not so much but tolerates nail clippings. Groomers can undo a lot of trust by hurrying or not being gentle.

Great job working with herb.. he is a gentle guy but doesnt like his nails trimmed. The muzzle protects you all and must say the 1st time i have ever seen a newfie need one. You know your dogs best and protection is key for all. Do you have an order you do them or is it who is closest?

I would use a muzzle too. All your fur babies do amazing while you are doing that. ❤️ I have one that will bite me if I try and just hold his paw in my hand. No idea why. I think kids did something wrong to him before I got him.

I agree with you being cautious with Herb. I use a Dremel on my Golden, she is used to it as was my Golden mix who passed away. I keep her sister from the same litter, and use the Dremel on her nails. Works great! Ruby belongs to my daughter and she appreciates not having to trim Ruby's nails

I get how Herbie and Mom feel. Many years ago I worked for a vet, and at that time we only had clippers to cut dog's nails. It was so stressful and easy to make a mistake and cut their quick by accident. Particularly if they had any black nails - you just couldn't see where their quick was. I could tell how badly it hurt, and dogs naturally reacted with fear every time after it happened. I hated it. So I definitely understand why the muzzle and doing it at home is smart. I wish we'd had those rotating files at the time. They look to be much better for control and not cutting the quick than the clippers were. Good job with all those toes!
