After 10 events, it’s finally here. This is what everything has been building towards all season. The World Title will be decided in a one-day, winner-take-all event. The top five men and top five women enter, and after 12 must-see heats, one male and female surfer will rise from the proving ground at Lower Trestles as this year’s undisputed World Champions.

I feel for the guy I must say. Still overall number one but the Teahupoo thing is a weird situation. Hope he wins the title but tackles Teahupoo next season. Gabe and Ibelli surf it well maybe a few trips there with them in the pre season would help as his smaller wave surfing needs no improvement obviously.

I really don’t understand this guy, people say he sucks at bigger waves but his performances at bells and jbay (in previous years) were top notch. Sounds like his problem is fear of shallow reef breaks, because there is no other explanation

So JJ is not a true champion, both titles he did not win in these waves. He made up to the quartes and semis in Pipe,now Chopes he has to surf there trainning more often. Now saying he sucks in bigger waves is going to far, he had the best performance ever at J Bay, never saw better. Won Sunset, Margie, Bells, can't deny he is a hell of a surfer

Funny thing is Italo has won the pipe masters, Kanoa made a final, Jack Robbo is one of the best at pipe, Ethan needs a few more years but had a good dig at the last event. Every world champion has put in time at pipeline and had a dig. People are just hoping Toledo has a go, he doesn't have to win the event or become a pipe master, they just want him to try.

History tells us that every world champion has had a dig in big waves and is proven in waves of consequence. The only world champion in question would maybe be Damien Hardman. I love Toledo, he absolutely rips and is a great guy but people will always question his validity if he becomes world champ because he is not proven in big heavy barreling waves. I hope he has a dig a proves everyone wrong because he has the ability and time to do it. If he doesn't he will forever be questioned by some as an illegitimate world champ because of his inability to at least have a go

Is occy not a world champ cause he couldn't do airs to an excellent standard? Jjf turns were medicore till a year or two ago. Imo doesn't invalidate his titles though. It's all a matter of perception. I agree though he can do it.
