This series is not about #feminism or woman’s #liberation in the #philippines . We are already liberated, and we never want to give up our #love of, and for, #motherhood and the importance of #family . It is about recognizing the achievements of the #filipina s over the images being pushed on social media. We hope you will watch with open minds and will join us in celebrating the accomplished women of the Philippines.

Very well said and mindful content. In addition to being leaders and full of substance, I think the majority of the subscribers here are also attracted to qualities that not many speak about. Very few talk about the qualities that I see; empathy, compassion, caring, loving, loyalty, and the most pure happiness mindset I have ever seen. As soon as you step foot outside of the big cities, you feel that energy. The heart of a true Filipina is worth its weight in gold. "Sex Sells" is unfortunately a global problem. Thank you for being a brave and strong leader in your community. I think your message is certainly the message of the silent majority.

Gooday Shay, everything you said is an accurate depiction of how many Filipinos are viewed by the West. One of the ways the narrative can be changed is primarily going to be through Education. Filipinos often times get overlooked due to being too shy, not willing to be counted due to not finding their voice. In Western societies the competition is fierce for every position in life. If one is not willing, or not able to speak up, stand up, and demonstrate what and who you are, then yes you will be overlooked, passed over and possibly become a Doormat for someone else's ambitions. Case in point in the various areas of endeavor the Group that stands out the most is the South Asian Diaspora people from India. They are highly skilled and very competitive, and many sit atop the corporate ladder in the US and other Western democracies. Filipinos have found success as well but more work needs to be done to achieve their dreams.

Yes Charles. The loudest and most sensational draws the most attention. But there is a whole culture of quietly accomplished Filipinas (and Filipinos) here who are not out there on social media grabbing all the attention. We would like to be a small part in changing the perception. 😌

"... she is not educated or worldly. or beautiful. but she is to me..." One of the most beautiful lines we've read. Yes, Marshal, educated is all about knowledge in something. If she is a wonderful mother and grandmother, then she has knowledge and wisdom in that. And yes! Simple can be successful, and we would like to portray that as such. Thank you!

I think Filipinos have become world renowned as intelligent, creative people that value education as attested by its 96% literacy rate compared to 86% in the US. A great number of Engineers, Medical personnel and Artists from the Philippines are making contributions in numerous countries throughout the globe. Anyone that thinks the Philippines or Thailand or any other country they see depicted negatively on the Internet is the true picture, they have a problem. Filipina women are some of the strongest most intelligent and gifted women in the world, I should know, I married one.

@@Life_WithShay Being a great mother and wife is way more important than being an engineer, etc for a woman. You think you are spreading a good profound message but you’re not. Good mothers and wives form good families which are the foundation of strong societies, without them it crumbles. Men from all over the world do Not travel to PH for career women who value money over everything, they go with their life savings to build a family with a good woman. Think long and hard about this video you created. It is the wrong message

Hi Ryan, I think I am a very good mother, and I am also a photographer.videographer and have always had to work to support my children. These things are not mutually exclusive. It's not about valuing money. It's about being accomplished as a human being and doing what you or I want to do. You want us to fit your own mindset of what a woman should be, but women can be anything, just as men can be. Men can be stay at home dads if they choose. I think that is a great accomplishment as well.

Hi Shay. It’s Phillip again. I have something to say to all the Filipinas and hope expats can be encouraged to see Filipinas in a different way. To all Filipinas who watch this and hopefully read the comments. I am an American man, living in America. First, you do not live in a 3rd world country. You live in a developing country. You’re getting better. Please take pride in that. Also, to all the Filipinas, I am very worried that you look to the west and want to be like us. Especially the females of the west. I beg you to be true Filipinas and develop yourself as your country is developing. Filipinas do so much. You provide so many essential things that all men need. That’s another reason why God put females on earth. You do so much as women. Don’t allow men to use you for sex. You’re much more valuable and capable than that. Don’t act like 1st world women. They aren’t like Filipinas. Filipinas are not sex objects. Filipinas are essential for this world and your country to grow, develop and be strong and happy. Please, Filipinas. Embrace how feminine you are and how much you help this world and your country going forward. You’ll get there. It’s not easy, but I know Filipinas can do it. It takes time. Filipinas. Stay being who you really are deep down inside. Filipinas are perfect, just being yourselves. And expats and tourists. Don’t use Filipinas for sex. Enjoy their character and laughing and dancing and their smiles. It’s a happy place made up of tough, resilient people. Let the Philippines change you. Not the other way around. Another great video Shay. Take care and stay safe, Phillip.

For some life's journey is harder. But that journey is what builds us. Doesn't mean you have to settle for something you don't want. Being physical, being intimate, with a person is a gift with the right person. To any filipina reading this, your being, your life is more then intimacy. Strive for your dream. Only in life we fail when we give up on that dream. You can be more than you think. Hope I made some sense. 😊

Hi Shay, this may be considered "Not Manly" but I'm an older man, 65 so I'm not young, but ever since I was a teen I've always treated girls or woman with the utmost respect, prior to popular belief, and after being a musician for a number of years I waited to marry when I was 29, we had 3 kids and I stopped pursuing any career in music and focused on the family. Sadly I ended up as divorced because of her constant cheating, I tried many times to reconsider my decision as I'm Catholic, but I became a single father raising 3 children at 45? she left me alone and I never remarried because I was told my standards were too high? but I didn't want just another woman. I'm still single, not for not looking, but I feel that after 20 years of searching I may find a friend or companion who I may find with the right mentality as mine? I realize I'm older but a woman who could be a partner & friend that I will not always thinking of sex? it's been twenty years without a girlfriend or wife so I won't be in a hurry🙂

Too be honest, how a woman or a man projects themselves to others online or in person, is what they will attract. Men leading with the wallet will attract women who value money more than the man, and the women who leads with sexy clothes and photos and videos are trying to attract men’s attention for the sex appeal they have to project. High value men and women don’t follow others, they have quality personalities and attract each other. I don’t think anything will change, this is how people choose their path to feel they are smart, and utilizing their resources to their advantage. I wish it was different but this is the reality of the world we live in today, broken and upside down, and social media isn’t making it better. The Philippines are the highest social media consumption country in the world, so it starts by getting off social media platforms, and making a quality life for themselves. ❤️🙏✨

I think if you insert the word "women" where you are saying "Filipinas" you have a more powerful point. What I've always found attractive about Filipinas is that they can do smart and sexy in equal measure. One doesn't cancel the other out. The resilience of the single mothers is extraordinary. I would always say to any woman, be who you want to be, not what someone else wants you to be.

John I often comment when I hear people say "here in the Philippines", "we Filipinos", or "Filipinas". I always suggest to them that they consider what is really different from the rest of humans... Here on Earth. We humans. Women. Interestingly I also think that Shay's main point here is that people in this country and maybe women especially tend to identify (constantly see themselves) as in many ways different, or more limited than they perceive people from other places to be. This is exactly at the core of the problem that I think Shay is talking about and really is the underlying cause of much of it. So while I would generally say we could just say WOMEN instead of Filipinas, in this context, it might be useful to shine a spotlight on what using Filipina really means to the psychology of both the women from PH and the men who see them from a distance. I was just asking my partner the other day about this. Many Western men are seeking "Filipinas" because they perceive them to be contrasting from western women. These ideas are mostly unfair and inaccurate stereotypes that lead to a lot of relationship problems. In my view. Anyway, fascinating and important topic for sure.
@Life_WithShay
@Life_WithShay 5 ай бұрын
Thank you John! We are speaking about Filipinas, not all women. I do not know western women or the way they think, so I do not try to speak for them. I know Filipinas, and I want to speak to them. @@Life_WithShay I value all women, especially those who helped bring me up when my father left us to it. I think it’s very hard to assign universal traits to one nationality, but having married ( and now divorced ) a Filipina and lived in Cebu for a year, I gained first hand insight into how afam view and treat women over there as well as how we are seen by the locals. Cebuanas are very different to Makati girls, no doubt also different from those who live deep in the provinces. Nicely organized thoughts here. Most of the best business leaders in this country are women and far more women are in the workplace and creating value than men in this country TBH. Intellectual powerhouses... agree. My only comment about the video is that there is a presupposition that a digital footprint of putting oneself out there in "compromising" ways is objectively a bad thing. I would argue that we can as individuals choose what we are willing to expose or share. For example, if someone has a nude video of you, and if the world was to see it, does that necessarily hurt you? It really just depends on your comfort level with that being seen. Actors and actresses certainly become comfortable having the world see more of them than most people are comfortable sharing. I loved the scene in Billions where Chuck decided to just tell the world openly about his BDSM fetishes which immediately deflated the opposition's attack. Anyway, my only point is that, while I 100% agree that all humans have a hell of a lot more potential value than their sexuality or their ability to earn money (loved that simile), it is not objectively bad to put oneself out there in whatever way as long as there is no shame nor wanton harm caused to others. It only becomes a bad thing when there is shame or fear of other people's judgement in the mix. What do you think about my theory?
@Life_WithShay
@Life_WithShay 5 ай бұрын
Hi Eli! How are you? We discussed your theory and, "... We think it is one thing to be an actor in a movie who is being paid to do a job and a completely different thing to portray a group or nation of women (Filipinas) as sex objects known for the sexualizing of their bodies rather than being human beings of substance and accomplishment. We are not saying anything negative about sex between consenting adults. That's irrelevant here. We're talking about a misguided and skewed representative portrayal of who the Filipina is to the world through social media, which damages the reality of how difficult it is for many Filipinas to achieve what they have achieved, at all levels. There is so much to discuss, so we plan to do this over time in more videos." 😌

Who said that “Filipinas” were only good for sex? I’m a heterosexual male and I think that every woman’s goal should be to be great at sex, it’s a main part of being a woman. With that said, it’s up to her how she sells herself when trying to attract a man. She has to know how much or how little of it to convey in landing a good man. 🤷‍♂️

Remember sex is easy in the west, finding a life long partner is very very hard. Just be carful not to turn could be mothers into business women who will find at 35, 40 that they can no longer be mothers and the business brings little satisfaction. Sex is not the most important thing to western men, it’s just one of the many great things about filipina.

@@Life_WithShay which is why I said what I did. I can only speak from a man’s point of view. I have interacted with a few very successful women and the lack of intimate conversation and interaction played on them. I am the father of 4 grown boys, I raised them alone and I know from experience that I could never be their mother. I believe that running a household and raising children is the most underrated and important job there is. A woman is her own master and can do as she pleases, I wish her luck but there is a cost. A lot of women in the west have chosen a business career over family and are now paying the price. Thanks for your time, I wish we could have a longer conversation.

Ron. I am mother of two beautiful daughters, and I have always worked to support them. I have a career and I am learning on a daily basis and my partner encourages me every minute. These things are not mutually exclusive. We are not the west, and we will never walk away from motherhood or love of family. 😌

@@Life_WithShay I meant you no disrespect, I love the fact that you are not the west. I hold little hope for the family unit here. My mum worked but family came first and I believe she did a good job of raising us. If I started again here I would get myself established then hire a surrogate mother buy an egg to have children. I would not risk loosing them in a divorce. I believe the world undervalues a woman keeping a house and raising the next generation. There is no more important thing. Best wishes to you and yours.

Ron, we re all different, and women can value family, partners, and still have a passion that earns them a good living. We spoke praisingly about mothers and homemakers in this video. Women do it all, and so can men. Why limit ourselves? As I said, I have been doing this for 19 years now, which is the age of my eldest daughter. Best wishes to you and yours as well!

Shay its a shame you even feel the need to make a video with this content. A strong intelligent woman is an amazing human being they are not sex objects. It's all women not just Filipinas. You introduce the success of Filipina women which is needed and there are many as you are an example. Reality is that sex get attention. Humans have one biological goal and that is to procreate. So should not be a surprise that sex is a driving force in relationships. Mature intelligent people do not treat others as sex objects but sex is in relationships. It should be enjoyed not advertised. Water as you know follows the path of least resistance. If some women are that path it is not a reflection on all women. Men fight the stigma also that the only reason you are here is for sex and in most cases I don't think that is true. So ? Enjoy life it's all we have.

I love this line Ron: "It (sex) should be enjoyed, not advertised." Yes! This is what we are saying here. We are not saying that sex is bad. Not at all. We're talking about the value of Filipinas as accomplished women, not sex objects. We don't need to be promoting them in this way. We need to have pride in our value as women with value other than the shape of our bodies. Thank you!

Hello Dave. First, I feel sad that you categorize western women so negatively. I am sure the majority of them are good women. I have met western women who are wonderful mothers and are still accomplished in what they do. Second, we are Asian, not western. I have never been to the west. I am pure Filipina. But we do live in the world. We can still be who we are and yet be part of the rest of the world. This has nothing to do with being a good idea or not; it is reality.

@@Life_WithShay my comment is about attitude. Yes, there are a few good western women. But look at the divorce rate here in the US. Categorize? Take a look at the “passport bro’s”, there’s a reason for that. So you can see where my bias comes from, I’ve been married to a fantastic, smart, beautiful Filipina for going on 49 years. I know I’d have never had as long of a happy relationship with an American woman. Thank you for the reply. I did enjoy your vlog

Hi Dave, I do not know many western women and again,, I have never been to the west, but a divorce rate goes two ways. I wouldn't put that solely on women. And passport bros, yes we have many here. But a few loud and obnoxious women on social media doesn't prove that all western women are that way. I don't know even one of those, but I know Filipinas with bad attitudes as well. I look at the individual always. What we are talking about here in this series are the perceptions created on social media by Filipinas, and also by foreign men who see us in a certain, misrepresented way. We just want to portray Filipinas for their positive contributions to our culture and society, and being seen as mere sex objects detracts from that. Thanks for your comments.
