When I arrived in country I featured several Filipino fast food chains not named Jollibee. These fast food chains were still owned by major corporations and could be found everywhere. After spending 6 months in country I have become familiar with much "smaller" fast food chains that many Filipinos and certainly the vast majority of foreigners have never hear of. In this video a visit three of them. And quite honestly, these may just be my new go to fast food joints!

You should've also tried Angel's Burger, tho not 24 hours like Burger Machine. It's more popular, because of the Filipino memes about it. It's a common cheap burger place, that emphasizes affordability over anything. Their business strategy is small profits consistently. There are very few franchises that doesn't have at least one customer at all times of the day.

Tropical Hut is owned by Jollibee, they bought out the original owner sometime back. Marketing was pulled back, changes in menu like that palabok, it's Jollibee Palabok. the burgers are original and the macaroni salad. other than the menu is just a repackaged Jollibee

Tropical Hut is the oldest pinoy hamburger joint in the Philippines. Jollibee was started as ice cream parlor when Tropical Hut already a burger joint success.

I laughed when I saw burger machine. Just like fishball or kwek kwek, this is just about the only other item that majority of Filipinos have tried, poor or rich. I'm glad you tried it. 35 or more years ago, when Jollybee and McDo wasn't much of a thing yet, burger machine is a treat for every Filipino kid. I rank Tropical Huts burgers over Jollibee and McDo. Binalot's been around but didn't really grew big because they're not cheap and the portion is small.

Burger Machine in the 90s was at its best, they even have TV ads competing with Jollibee and McDonalds. Tropical Hut also had supermarkets aslo. Binalot, was a go-to meal of mine when working at Makati back then. There's a lot more in the Philippines than Jollibee 😃

AH Tropical Hut! I grew up on that. I remember back in the 70's and 80's, Tropical Hut only served Burgers, Clubhouse Sandwich, and Spaghetti. And back then Tropical Hut's felt more like a restaurant than a fast food. The tables were organized similar to a US soda fountain. The place had a center island with bar stools. The rest of the tables were booth tables made. Food was served to you by waiters, and you paid after eating. I think they changed their format when McD's and Jollibee started gaining popularity.

Yeah, my understanding is they really started to fall of in the 80's with the emergence of Jollibee and McD's. Struggled for years apparently until 2019 a twitter post started a resurgence. I am still waiting for someone to give me more of the scoop on the twitter post. I only know the little I read about it. I would say all in all that Tropical Hut is a place everybody should visit. there food was very respectable

Wow!!!!! I remember that too! I had an uncle who was a "Pelotari" (a Jai Alai Player). After his game in the now none existing Fronton in front of Luneta, he would bring us to Tropical Hut. The setting you described is exactly how I remembered it. Thank you.

That's right my friend tropical hut just same as my age born in 1961. Tropical Hut was famous with their burgers back then. Back in the days they only served burgers.

Apparently there has been a resurgence in their popularity in the last few years. I don't know all of the details behind why other than the twitter post I mention in the video. My thoughts are that people should go and check them out. Their food is very respectable

I cannot choose which 3 of them, tropical hut love the burger and fries, machine burger its cheaper for burger but the tastes so good. Binalot, all the dishes are felipino food. Tropical hut is underrated 😢 but it was one of my fav. I hope they can do it way back in the 90s.

Binalot(Wrapped) is somewhat your traditional lunch box or bento box or take-away. Back in the day, filipino housewives prepare breakfast and lunch fo their husbands who tends the rice fields before at dusk. their children also bring these packets to school. A typical binalot consists freshy steam rice, fried or grilled fish or meat. slices of either tomato or cucumber or both and salted eggs. the introduction of food grade plastic bag pave way for these packets to become unpopular, because during the industrial boom in the 1950s, where different factories are being built over farmlands banana trees became harder to get by.

Burger Machine's Roast Beef Burgers are something that you should try next time. Make sure you ask that a slice of cheese be added. It's what I always order every time I'm there, although it's not "buy one, take one". Also, if you happen to chance upon a Minute Burger outlet, do try their Steak Burgers and Double Chicken Time Burgers. Both are "buy one, take one" and also, be sure you order any of those with cheese in it. Both are good to fill you up on the go.

Tropical hut started earlier than Jollibee, but never got as popular. Jollibee was able to copy US fastfood restaurants' marketing strategy and apply it effectively to the local market.

the reason fast food filipino spaghetti are sweet its because it tends to entice children, and they love the sweet style pinoy spaghetti. i myself grew up with them. but i do make a pinoy spaghetti that is not so sweet but still have that italian touch to it.

Burger Machine is a poor man’s burger. There was one near our place in manila and i got hooked with their burger. Not just fir its price but its surprisingly fulfilling! Another one is “Franks Burger”.

Here is the thing with Burger Machine. They are nothing fancy and you certainly aren't getting a wagyu truffle burger from there, but for what they are I would put there basic burgers side by side with the clown peoples any day

Don't be concerned with the waste. I film lots of things where there is just no possible way I could eat it all. I either bring it home as left overs or make sure I am using a clean utensil to pull portions and then give the rest to homeless people, security guards etc.

I have nothing against Jollibee, Darryl. We had them in Canada so I had eaten there before. And EVERY foreign vlogger that comes to the Philippines has to do a Jollibee video. I decided I would not do one there and feature the multitude of other fast food chains in the Philippines that are owned and operated by Filipinos
