Excellent vid, Andrew. I used the little pause you demonstrated...a 1/4 of the way up-lever..then raising the lever to the top before adding that las bit of water. That completely eliminated the air pocket, and gave me a super smooth pull, which was reflected not only by my arm, but by the gauge. I recommend all Flair 58 and 58+ owners to watch your series of videos.

I am using the Flair 58 V2. I am surprised that you fill the chamber while the lever is down and then fill the remaining head space when you lift the lever up. I normally do not do that... I just fill it all the way from the start to finish while the lever is up through the little hole with my gooseneck kettle. I feel this is a better workflow for me. Am I doing it wrong or missing something?

If you have the valve plunger installed, you have both options

Hi team, I just got a new Flair 58 and I believe I have the issue that Andrew is describing between 2:50 - 3:17. The problem is that I am sure that my hook is seated neatly against the crossbar of the plunger so there is no "further" that the hook can go. As I am bringing down the lever, once the black guider goes low enough to enter the brewing chamber, it rubs against the inside wall of the brew chamber so the lever becomes stiff and the pressure suddently drops and in some cases I hear/feel a slight vibration of the black guide rubbing the inner wall. What should I do? Is it possible that due to manufacturing tolerances, the black guide is very slightly longer than usual and it rubs regardless that the hook is well seated on the crossbar? Thanks

Are the any adjustments to the valve plunger method when using 12 gram single baskets? I'd assume you don't need to fill in the whole chamber with water.
@FlairEspresso2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the desired yield but likely full fill is not needed, just don't continue raising lever once all the water has passed through valve; stop there and start the pull.

Hi, when trying the second method it never fills completly the inner part looks like the seal is blocking water
@FlairEspresso2 жыл бұрын
After filling, and while handle is still down, lift handle a could inches an jiggle it side to side. Water should fill head space and allow you to top off before raising to the top. Contact support for further assistance if needed at flairespresso.com/contact

I have been debugging a problem with my 58 LE which I got a couple of months ago. At first, I was pulling shots between 6-9 psi, but lately, I am not even doing 3 psi. I replaced all the gaskets on the brewed assembly and the one on stem. I used a light coating of canola oil to make sure they were not drying out. In the gasket kit, there are a couple of VERY small gaskets of about 5/16 across, but I have no idea where they go. It's the only thing I have not changed out. Any ideas?
@FlairEspresso2 жыл бұрын
Grind finer. You didn't mention water was squirting from anywhere it shouldn't (from seals on plunger, stem or gauge)--the obvious signs of pressure loss unrelated to reduced puck resistance. bit.ly/BrewWithFlair or flairespresso.com/contact

I really wanted to use the second method but when the leaver is upright, no more water goes is. So I'm always left with a gap filled with air between the plunger and the water.

Hello, when i tried method 1, water boil in the well (bubling up for a few second) when preheat setting at level 3 and using boiling water. Is it normal? Im living at sea level. Thank you.
@FlairEspresso2 жыл бұрын
heating with plunger located at the bottom could be the reason as there's less thermal mass adjacent to PI film to soak up the energy. always preheat with plunger at the top and only lower prior to filling if using method #2. also, as mentioned in video, to maintain a column of water of 95 C metal will be slightly hotter. perhaps the bubbling up isn't from heat but rather displacement of air

If you purchased for 529 the 58 didn't have a valve plunger at that time and price. All 58s from Oct on were outfitted with a valve plunger, silicone funnel and puck screen AND cost 575

Will the 58 be more difficult to use Vs the pro 2? If I'm not planning to do back to back shots is there any advantage of the 58 over the pro 2 in terms of channelling probabilities ? Which is more forgiving towards variance in grind sizes?

I do use flair and Bplus puck SCREENS, and I do use appropriate vst baskets for different dose sizes. I haven't installed the valve plunger yet. I'm a little nervous to do so. I don't have a Gooseneck Kettle and I wonder if I'll have trouble with a normal jug. Currently I pull the plunger up before I insert the portafilter, so there is no upward force on the coffee bed. It appears with the valve plunger method, the portafilter is installed with the plunger down, chamber filled, and then plunger raised. I'm slightly concerned this will drag some coffee oils up into the chamber over time, making a cleaning issue.
@FlairEspresso3 жыл бұрын
Nothing to be concerned about because 1) the valve prevents this (no suction) and 2) there's no where for coffee material to hangout once you remove the fixed screen. Also very easy to wipe inside if needed

Hello, I am very attracted to the Flair 58. This purchase will be an accomplishment for me, and I want to be confident in my purchase. Forgive my ignorance. When lifting the lever, is there a chance the puck will get displaced? Also, may I ask why the new version does not have a shower screen? I understand the engineers designed it for a reason, I just would like to understand the differences. Lastly, what it the height with the lever fully extended? I have an area with my various brewing methods and great coffee and roasted coffee. I would like to see if more space will be needed. Thank you so very much. I look forward to your reply.
@FlairEspresso Жыл бұрын
Hey there, happy to answer your questions! 1) When you lift the lever the valve opens, no vacuum formed. 2) Surface tension sometimes prevented filling head space below, removing dispersion screen alleviates this concern. 3) lever up is 24", lever down 12"; you can push it under the cupboard when not in use, pull out and possibly need to turn at an angle to use
