Can you give me a bit of advice? Recently we had some family members come to stay with us for a couple of month. Two of them are men with very deep voices. One of my 6 month old chihuahuas doesn't seem to be handling it well and turns into a big chicken anytime either of the men are in the same room as her. She will run away, bark, growl, and jump out of their arms if I try to have them hold her. Mostly she just tries to run away and hide,, either in her kennel or in a corner somewhere. She also won't listen to me if I try to call her to me. I've tried to give her treats and tried to have them give her treats but she won't take them or eat them if they are around. If I try keeping her on my lap for a while, she does seem to calm down some after a while but goes right back to being anxious if they move or start talking. I don't know what I should to help her overcome this behavior or to feel more comfortable with being around them. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! Trinity

Hi Trinity, I’m sorry to hear about your sweetie pie struggles. So having the large men consistently hold her and give her treats is what I would normally recommend, however it sounds like right now she’s not in the right state of mind for much success. So what I would recommend is giving her a little break by means of alone time in a crate in a separate room of the house while the scary visitors are there. Hopefully they’re not at the house all the time, I’m assuming they leave for work during the day and that’s a good time for her to be able to walk around the house comfortably. But well before they get home I recommend you put her into the little crate in her room so that she understands she is safe and secure in her den and doesn’t have to see the scary man while she’s in there. Try that every single day for a week. Then on the eighth day do the same thing but leave the bedroom door and the crate door open so that she knows it’s her choice whether she decides to come out. She may waffle back-and-forth between fear and loneliness. If she does venture out of the room, make sure she sees the other sweetie pie receiving lots of love and treats and praise for visiting with the scary men. It might take her several weeks of poking her head out to look before she decides to venture out into the room. If she absolutely cannot settle down and continues to be terrified, then don’t push it because that could be increasing her anxieties. There’s a possibility something happened in her infancy before you got her they gave her PTSD which will be very difficult to overcome 😞

Love!! I have a question... I have a 4 week pregnant sweetie pie and she has been refusing her food for a few days now. I’ve tried multiple different varieties and even made her a few different soups and she still won’t eat them. Have you had this issue, and if so what has worked for you? I’m worried about her having a hypoglycemic attack and also the puppies overall health. I’ve talked to the vet and exhausted all of their suggestions to no avail. Hello Mel and sweetie pie. It’s quite common for an expecting Chihuahua to experience many of the symptoms women do. They can have morning sickness, loss of appetite, upset stomach and diarrhea. I recommend to soak a high nutrition puppy kibble in chicken broth. I remember when my puppies where that small and cute Btw out of 6 only 3 survived after 2 months there 3 months now 😢 Idk how the mom had that many she's a chihuahua One was given to us bc her mom didnt want to give her milk but bc of us she's alive
