When Chris 'splains the vision for the property, say WHAT?!!!!! He not only knows what the property will be, he knows how to make it happen. Still think Chris needs to teach the reality of excavation, civil engineering, pond reclamation/installation, equipment operation, etc. at the local technical college/university. He ROCKS!!!! 👍 P.S. Everyone, my teaching comment was for an adjunct position....one course, once a year - not full-time. As a former faculty member, we ALWAYS appreciated having students hear from professionals and not run-of-the-mill textbook stuff....especially, with a specialization like Chris has. Thanks to everyone who has commented. Much appreciated. P.P.S. Teaching an adjunct course is not about the money, but for "giving-back" and building talent for the industry.

I wonder if the hole in the barn was the start of a service pit for vehicle maintenance. Back in the day they were very common. Just pull a vehicle or tractor inside the barn over the pit and then walk down the stairs into the pit to work on the equipment overhead. The pits were four to six feet deep and usually lined with concrete on both sides and bottom. Had to support the weight of the vehicle without collapsing the pit around someone.

I am a geologist currently in Ohio I have abandoned hundreds of wells. Each state has different rules for abandonment. Also each state has specific definitions of what a well is. It is easy enough to look up the specific regulations. It may not be a good idea to put the well closing on KZbin it could lead to problems with the regulators. Depending on what state you are working in. I have abandoned wells in ohio, Arkansas, California, Florida and Indiana. Oh my I could have made a beautiful planter out of that terra cotta pipe! It makes my heart bleed in sorrow for its loss.

I must admit if were my place I would not have filled that pit. I would have got you to clean it out through the centre and then built some forms, poured some concrete and made myself a nice little maintenance/inspection pit. Take it lower with a small well in one corner for a sump pump, build up the threshold to negate the provision of a sump pump and be just that bit more independent.

If you invest enough time and money, you could end up with some nails and bottle caps!
