I love the metal flowers behind you, where can I get some?

For those just watching, you don't need to buy a fancy house/barn for the tubes. Any enclosure will work as long as it keeps the tubes/reeds and cocoons out of the rain. Natural reeds are best for solitary bee nesting.

I've had my bees about 3/4 years now and I didn't do anything he said, I just put the bees that come in the tube in that top portion of that house, didn't convert any of that middle portion either, no scent packet, they are doing great!

I have the same house. You store the cocoons in the bake of the house that is why you have the slots on the top of the house so when they hatched they can go out

That’s really cool. I’m interested in what the next step is once they hatch...

Gotta respect the Bee's. Wonder if these leaf cutter bees are more resistant to the horrible mites thats been killing bees left and right. Curious to see how they work for you this season and if you get them to survive through the winter for next season.

Is it okay to use plastic pipes instead of hollow bamboo stalks for Leaf Cutter Bee house?
@harveyshot9393 жыл бұрын
Might be kind of hard to harvest the cocoons, if you intend to do that.

Are leaf cutter bees the same as mason bees? I have 3 houses for them and I have lots of activity in 2 of them. I have mason bees that are using mine.

My question was before I listened all the way through. Thank you.

Where to buy the leaf cutter bees and the house?
@bistitchualbee3 жыл бұрын
That house is no good for bees because the reeds can’t be removed, so you’ll get chalkbrood and future bee larvae will end up dying. Get a better house from somewhere like CrownBees.com and they sell bee cocoons as well.

I bought mine at Home Depot in the Garden section and they also have the house and supplies on Amazon.

Don’t buy that house from Costco! Extremely disappointing. It doesn’t come apart to be able to harvest and store cocoons. Completely pointless bee house. It’s all glued and nailed together. It’s designed not to be disassembled. Do not buy!
@Sabrina-zf7xg3 жыл бұрын
He disassembled for harvest in seconds.
@bistitchualbee3 жыл бұрын
He only disassembled the inner block portion. The bamboo reeds are glued into the back of the house, and cannot be opened for harvest even if they weren’t glued. In just 2-3 seasons, you’re going to have chalkbrood killing your developing bee larvae. @@Sabrina-zf7xg

Exactly @ReefMimic! This Costco house was my first house, but I didn’t know anything about bees at the time. Once I learned more about raising solitary bees, I immediately set up a “moving day” for my bees. That spring, I put the Costco house in a paper sack with a hole in it, right under a new house with removable reeds. Hatching bees can get out of the bag, but not back inside, so they go to the new house instead.
