Great story. I remember seeing this in the theater and loving it. It was popular and a lot of people liked it. It was competing against Octopussy. Like most of the late era Roger Moore movies Octopussy got too long and mired in weird unrealistic sci - fi type nonsense. Never say Never again was so much better. I also liked that they dealt with the realization of an aging Bond. They call him back before he gets too old to help with one last big case. Also. Roger Moore wasn’t even young. He was in the same age bracket as Connery. He was just trying to act younger which was ridiculous. It was a good movie. The only reason people trash it 30 years after it was made is because it isn’t an “Official” Bond Movie. The original producers of the series, that have kept the series going for 60 years, weren’t involved so they try to plant hit pieces on it on all the movie review and nostalgia sites. Don’t believe them. If you’re a fan of the original series you’ll like this.

It's just a part of the whole thing, people support Rangers just because they're the Scottish team, I know Catholics who do so! Not many, but if they don't feel any affiliation with Ireland they can support Rangers... Celtic are Irish, full stop. @@220773 No, they're an Irish team which ended up in Scotland. Protestant Irish admittedly. There isn't much Scottish about the Orange Order, UVF, UDA etc, which are Ulster phenomena. Never Say Never Again was a great capper for Connery as Bond. Brandauer was a truly great Bond villain, Carrera and Kim Basinger great Bond girls, and Bernie Casey played a great Felix Leiter then all the other forgettable CIA sidekicks (save for Jack Lord and Jeffrey Wright). Its the second best movie directed by Irvin kershner (Empire Strikes Back). And its really the best way for Connery to close out that original Bond he created. Much more satisfying than Diamonds Are Forever. My only wish is that he'd played opposite Diana Rigg in OHMSS. She was just lovely.. and the two of them would've been incredible together.

having just finished watching the movie for the very first time I think it is a great piece. At first I wasnt that impressed but then it evened out and became quite worthy of Connerys talents. It does feel like a James Bond tribute piece but then I think he can be forgiven for doing a self tribute at age 53 ish when he is the Master of the character. I missed the familiar soundtrack and the slick production of the first 60s series which I saw as a kid... but Never say Never is both unique and familiar because of Sean Connery.

Yes, Sean's quoted of saying (at the "view to a kill" premiere) something like "enough of this, you're doing it wrong. Bond should be played by someguy around 33, 35. The idea was pertaining to a mission to dangerous for a single 007 operative to achieve successfully, as that only one 007 agent would be active at a single time, with the given name of Bond for earlier misadventures. It's really great that he did make another Bond. And who cares if it's not part of the 'official' Eon ones? The viewers and fans can make up their mind about what composition of Bond narratives is most meaningful to them. So you can have an alternative Thunderball, with the key elements like characters done very faithfully to the original material.

This film was never my favourite because I was a child in the 60's and i still love the decade today because of the ICONIC films, Pop Art, Music, Fashion, and the world seemed so much more glamorous. Like my late parents who were in their late 20's during the DRAB 50's and up to around 1955 there was still rationing in Britain and they were just living their HUM DRUM lives. The 60's bought them the Bond Franchise and the first 6 were just so different and there was none of the 50's Kitchen sink dramas and plays and films mirroring their own lives. One more reason why the first 6 were so popular was far off exotic filming locations. My parents could never have afforded to go 'ABROAD' so they saw Istanbul and the Bosphorus River By the time this film came out making films was, of course, so much different from the previous 20+ years and i know things move on but there was too much tech, too many car chases and what was then basic CGI. By the 80's the world was 'smaller' and the human race started to travel all over the world so there was a different attitude. Sean did look a lot fitter and leaner but there were so many production problems and although the director Irvin Kershner knew Sean having directed him in a Fine Madness and with Kevin McClory as well involved in this it was bound not to run smoothly.. McClory i believe was chasing Sean for quite a few years to get him to do this film.

There's no doubt he's right. When he does humor, its less forced and more natural, whereas Moore was going for the joke. He's also right that the focus of the series from Thunderball onwards was on the spectacle, and with the solid exception of OHMSS, that had been the case for most of the Bonds, except FYEO which was also too recent and probably Connery hadn't seen. But he had seen Moonraker, and noted just how silly it was by the end of it.

Actually , Never say never again is a marvellous title for a Bond movie. Much better that the redundant titles with kill and die. Sounds like a title Fleming would use.
