Great reaction, once again! I liked how you spotted so many actors; few reactors know any of these old-timers. Thomas Mitchell, the uncle in “It’s a Wonderful Life,” won an Oscar for best supporting actor in “Stagecoach,” the classic western that made John Wayne a star. Lloyd Bridges, who was the father of actors Beau and Jeff, did many serious roles, such as Katherine Hepburn’s hard older brother in the outstanding film, “The Rainmaker,” and he had a hit TV show that I saw as a kid, “Sea Hunt.” The old lawman, BTW, was Lon Chaney, Jr. About black and white hats: in the western that made Cooper a star, “The Virginian” (1929), he wore a white hat, and the villain wore a black hat. I think your speculation is right, as I seem to recall that Cooper was a ranch hand before he was discovered by Hollywood. One correction: one of the first, if not the first, use of a clock that marks real time in a movie is the outstanding boxing movie, “The Set-Up” (1949), starring Robert Ryan. Loved your interjection of the correct translation, “Thou shalt not murder.”

Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again for adding to the film suggestions list. I didn't even realise that Lloyd Bridges was the father of Beau and Jeff. I've heard the name Beau Bridges before, but I don't remember seeing him in anything. I did look at his filmography and it's extensive. I've wanted to see stagecoach for a while so thanks for reminding me about it. I'll also see about getting my hands on The Virginian. I didn't know that the series was also based on the same source material. Also, good shout about The Set Up. I think one of the boutique labels have picked it up and restored it. I held in my hands a few times to buy it, but went with some other Blu Ray in the end. I won't be doing that again, just needed the confirmation that it's worth getting. Or maybe I'm thinking of another boxing movie.

Gary Cooper spent his childhood on a ranch in Montana ---- although, oddly, his parents sent him to a fashionable school in England for a while. He began his movie career as a stunt rider, and quickly established himself in silent westerns long before his many serious roles. Lloyd Bridges, who played the cowardly deputy, had a long career as a supporting actor, often in westerns, gradually getting lead rones, until he had major success in a hit television series, Sea Hunt. His two sons, and a grandson all became successful actors.

Deputy is Lloyd Bridges who was mostly a serious actor, which is why they used him in Airplane. he is the father of two great actors Beau and Jeff Bridges.

The film High Noon was based on a short story "The Tin Star" written by John M. Cunningham and which appeared in Colliers Magazine in 1947.

~ The film was shot in real time. In other words, the time of the movie depicts the time Cooper waits for the train ~

~ Cooper was a major western star for 2 decades before this film, well versed by this time to know all about handling horses and horse drawn vehicles in a naturally well worn fashion ~

I really appreciate your reaction on this classic western movie. You seem to understand what kind of story the movie wants to tell and what means it uses to do so. Many reaction youtubers compare movies from the 1940s, 1950s or 1960s with today's blockbuster cinema and of course that can't work. Even without John Wayne or carriage-robbing Indians, this movie is almost perfect. The characters are clearly fleshed out, their motivations understandable and every scene has its justification and contributes to the understanding of the story. “Coop” always a bit stiff at the hips, but here the best cast :) Thank you for this video! This channel deserves way more subscribers.

This movie should be watched yearly. This teaches anyone the difference between integrity and cowardice. I am sorry my distaste of westerns kept me from it till I was 53.

Jeff Bridges (or maybe it was Beau Bridges) told a story of how both Jeff and Beau were in the attic of the barn while below they were filming the fight scene between their dad, Lloyd Bridges, and Gary Cooper.

@@macroman52 A bitter sweet experience I bet. On the one hand, your dad is a cowboy in a movie. On the other hand, you’re watching him get his but kicked by the star. 🤷

The song in IAWL is actually Buffalo Gal. By the Light of the Silvery Moon is a different song altogether.

In reality, the towns of the Old West, were full of people that had fought in the civil war, in the Indian wars, were buffalo hunters, and they were all very familiar with firearms. In those days, no one came into a town, and shot it up, because they knew the local towns people would get their firearms, and confront them and hang them. A man could get jailed or hanged if he carelessly bumped into a woman on the street, much less did what these guys tried to do in the movie. Case in point, in the 1890's the Dalton gang rode in to a town, and tried to rob two banks, but were shot to rags by the local townsfolk. This movie is a great story, but unrealistic to how the Old West really was, in the latter 1800's west.

There is a theory for the success of this film at the time: whether it was the intention of the filmmakers or not the public saw a parallel with the US fighting the Korean war, against the communist villain, while the '"so called allies" and the UN, i.e. the townspeople, were not supporting the US enough.
@thisisfunhouseentertainment23 күн бұрын
@@macroman52 I’ve learned that from the comments and a bit of research. It’s a commentary on blacklisting and Rio Bravo was made as a counter to this film.
@macroman5223 күн бұрын
@@thisisfunhouseentertainment that’s why I said regardless of the intention of the writers. The public didn’t care much about blacklisting “commies” but did have a sense that the US was the only country willing to fight commies forcefully. But I hats conjecture on my part of course.
@DirigoDuke11 ай бұрын
Now that you’ve seen HIGH NOON, you simply *have* to watch RIO BRAVO. Why? Well, HIGH NOON was intended as an allegory for the Hollywood blacklisting of the era, which occurred in the wake of the McCarthyism communist scare. But director John Ford and superstar actor John Wayne said this movie, where nobody would help the sheriff, was un-American. So, they made RIO BRAVO as a direct, and diametrically opposed answer to this film.
@thisisfunhouseentertainment11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing that bit of knowledge. I'm glad you brought up Rio Bravo and blacklisting. Back in the day, when asked what his favourite film was, Tarantino always said Rio Bravo. He's had the most impact on me creatively, so when it got re-released on DVD I watched it immediately. To be honest, it went over my head, and from memory it's just a blur. Knowing what I now know about High Noon vs. Rio Bravo, I will definitely be watching it again with fresh eyes.
@steveellis71748 ай бұрын
Ford didn't direct Rio Bravo, it was Howard Hawks.
