Film Director reacts to Dreamcatcher reality show EP7 Battleground

From a production standpoint, how would you film a battleground gun fight? Do you think the "variety show" part is lacking from the 7 eps so far?

Such a great question. 1) The first thing to consider is the narrative/story you are telling. In unscripted TV, you look at the overall results after you shoot and decide what story you want to tell and how. For instance here, there is a big comeback from Team Dream, so you would play up Team Catcher being super powerful in the first half of the game to create drama and story arc for the comeback in the second half. 2). Second is that they really needed to have the two teams wearing different colors. It was confusing who was who. (War movies it's easy to tell who are the Nazis or Middle Eastern insurgents because they're dressed differently. 3) More bird's-eye or elevated shots so the audience can get the context of how the players are moving across the board and why. 4). Reduce the amount of player commentary used that doesn't directly relate to the story you have to tell. For instance in the first half, play more of Team Dream saying how good Jiu is. The extra commentary of random things sometimes creates too much "noise". 5) Find "B" and "C" story lines. So the "A" story line is Team Dream's big comeback. Maybe the "B" story line could be how Handong didn't do much in the first half, but then found her stride to kill 4 in a row in the second half. The "C" story line could be Sua's journey from scared to assassin after she got the umbrella. It should also be shown how Team Dream worked together while Team Catcher fought as individuals. -----------For how the variety show is going. I love the idea. Among us was the best for me. The horror episodes were a let down for me because of missed opportunity. It wasn't scary and most of the the girls weren't that scared. The place should have been dark, near black (using night vision cameras), the girls should have gone separately, and each have to find an artifact and then rally back at home base. The girls could be "killed". When the girls rally back at home base, they could see who was missing and have to retrieve the artifacts the "dead" girls didn't get. That's how I would have done it to up the dramatic tension. ------------what do you think? Gang, any of you have any thoughts on this?

@@PaulLeach123 This is a Kpop idol group we're talking about. They have to be very careful about how much stress they cause the girls. Too much and there will be massive blowback from fans. I'm actually surprised they broadcast episode 6. They took a real chance showing Yoohyeon in so much pain.

Thanks for the Dreamcatcher content. Notice the helmets, team Catcher had light colored, while team Dream's were dark colored. But your right, their whole uniform's should have been different for each team. Easier to see than just the helmets.

16:50 John Woo. I remember rented vhs Face Off, The Negotiator (Samuel L Jackson) and The Matrix and marathon watch them. Episode 7 was fun and I don't mind it being 15 minutes or more actually. I hope there's an 11 episode being compilation of behind the scene stuffs.

Strategy just kill alot seemed to work well in the first half but then team dream really pulled it off in the second half for sure

Nice! How are the helmets' red light triggered? Chest shot?

@@PaulLeach123 not entirely sure but I believe the chest armor and helmet have sensors on them. Experience airsoft players will probably be able to explain it.

yeah you can clearly see the airsoft bbs flying in some scenes. the chest plate and helmet probably have pressure sensors. really cool stuff. would have been cooler if they gave one assault rifle for each time lol :D

@@ivyshy98 I believe assault rifle have more power, so it might hurt on such close distance? I was on strikeball before and our girls in teams finished with some huge bruise even when they wear some additional clothes to protect body. But ofc it depends on guns and protection clothes.

@@bigparadox9093 the power can be about the same, it's just rifles usually have more ammo so they can just spray the bbs everywhere. if those are kinda thick suits, it wouldn't hurt. airsoft only stings if it hits the skin directly. I'm sure they use lower fps guns since it's a more controlled arena situation. the airsoft battles you see posted on youtube you have hardcore players using expensive guns which can really hurt vs thin clothing like tshirts. looks like a lot of fun in any case :D
