I met and chatted with her twice. Once in Newark, 1974, at Turandot with Birgit, Domingo and Albanese, and once after a 1977 Met performance while walking to her car. She always loved to talk to her fans, even at 90!

What a privilege to hear and see her sing. We are lucky this film , however imperfefct it may be exists. She was certainly a great artiste.

I grew up living next door to her. I spent a lot of time in her house and was given her old cat when she died. She died when I was 14. It's mentioned in my IMDB bio -- David D. Mattia.

Stupendous artist with a big beautiful voice. And so even!

This gives a much better idea of what is obviously a superb voice than the recordings I have previously heard.The sound seems to involve her whole body. We don't hear that much anymore

Bei so einer schönen und ausdrucksstarken Stimme ist es egal, in welcher Sprache sie singt. Und wäre es Chinesisch, es wäre wunderbar. Schön, dass es dieses Live Dokument von ihr gibt!

Wow her voice sounds much bigger than in her recordings.
@gregorywiederecht2 жыл бұрын
True, but most of her recordings were made during the 1920s. This was during the '30s, where there was a massive leap forward in sound recording quality

I think this may be footage of her actually singing, not lip syncing. 1933 could have been filmed either way. At age 46 she is still in vibrant voice.

The old semaphore school of acting! Gorgeous middle and lower notes, open, present singing.... only the ultimate finish on the high notes (as at 5:15) is missing.
