I have produced a lot of 48 hour projects over the years. I won my first best producer award last year. I’m going to produce my first feature next year.

I am an actor turned film Producer! I learn how to produce working on 4 film for the great Roger Corman! I was acting in his films and that's how I learned being onset! I knew Hollywood was not calling my cell! lol! so I started doing my own thing! and I found it so easy to produce movies, I have made some mistakes but not really big ones! i have done one short and 3 full feature and now in production of my 4 film! the last one and my new film I put up my own money! I know this may not be for everyone but I have learn to just make movies with the money you have and don't go over budget! I make my films under 10g and they look like I spent 100,000! its making films that you can make! i get people sending me scripts ad it cost a million dollars to make!! LOL! make a 5g-10g film! we all the gear you have now its so easy! I have seen a movie shot on a iPhone!

Hey Joe, I’m a college student studying Finance and Film Production, and I run a small KZbin channel on the side. You seem very experienced and I was wondering if we could chat privately on if you’d be interested to come on an episode of my Podcast. I can link my actual KZbin channel when we talk :)

Well, where are your films being distributed? Are they straight VOD? Are they getting good critical reviews? I know someone who completed his first feature film, a horror flick, and it was circa $150K and it's available online. A fairly large cast and okay production values but I question whether he'll ever get to Breakeven? I think making movies just for the sake of movies is a bit silly, but of course each to their own, but it's the most expensive medium out there. You have much more control over things if you're a Novelist or Painter or Musician. The problem with Film, as I see it, is that with limited budgets, your script also has to be limited. Also, I've seen dozens of Corman films and frankly, most of them are pretty bad. He's NOT the person I'd want to emulate. IF you're young, and are in it for the long run, I'd much rather see how other successful filmmakers are able to get their films made on higher budgets without compromising and work your way up through the ranks so the time comes when you know how to navigate the system, even if it's the Indie system, because just way too many low budget films out there right now that, like my friends,' will never be seen by anyone other than his family, friends and crew.

This is an excellent overview! I want to be a film producer to ultimately produce independent content. By learning the ropes: building relationships, planning, run a successful set and completing a film from start to finish.

As a poor black woman who wants to be a film producer, I just got to get this off my chest because no one else is not going to say it. Tyler Perry is a billionaire, he's worth $1billion and he can't even help poor black wannabe filmmakers get there movies made? $1 billion is a lot of hundred dollar bills and Tyler Perry can't give no black person $10,000 to help them make their first movie. He doesn't have to help them with there second movie but at least help 5 people only it doesn't matter about color; the person can be black or white, but help someone who wants to be a film producer like him give them $10,000 to help so they're movie can be made. This man got all this money and he can't give no one $10,000 to have there movie made? This is a cold world we're living in it's a dog eat dog would. Now I understand why Quintin Tarantino can't help no one because he's not as rich as Tyler Perry, Tyler Perry has way more money than Quintin Tarantino. If I was a film producer and had $1 billion I will help at least 5 wannabe film producers movie get made because at the end of the day what can I do with all that money? I can't take it with me when I'm gone, so help someone. And all these black people love Tyler Perry when he's not helping no black or white person who wants to be a filmmaker or need help raising money for their first film he want help no one that's sad.

You have to grow up 1st. 2nd Tyler Perry has a “net worth” of a 1 billion. He doesn’t actually have 1 billion dollars cash. Tyler Perry Studios and his production studio is worth 1 billion. 3rd, with the attitude of entitlement you have, why would anyone want to work with you? Tyler Perry doesn’t owe any BLACK person anything. He made a product to which the black community consumed at a price. Thats commerce, capitalism. Tyler Perry was homeless and barely making a dime when he play running. I also see how you gave Quentin Tarantino grace, however he his a wealthy man as well, but probably because he’s white. You seem like you have a lot of issues, and as aspiring film investor, it’s black women like you I avoid. NOBODY OWES YOU ANYTHING.

I want to produce my own script, because I have been looking for famous producers to help me for so long, but they are all the same, they don't even view messages so as not to say that they ignore us. Famous people are selfish, they don't like to help anyone make money. They think that by receiving a few bucks we will get a piece of fame from them.
