13:02 Even if PR is in limbo atm, that doesn't mean the fandom is dead. Besides, Power Morphicon is next month and is something many people will attend. Even if there might not be much news on the future of PR, it's still something to look forward to for the panels, actors, toys, etc. I've been to PM twice and I enjoyed it both times. I might've been distancing myself a bit from the franchise since 2018 over my love for trains among other things, abandoning PR is something I feel like very few people would do especially for the joy and enthusiasm they had for it over the years. Even if the show's future is uncertain at the moment, stuff like this shows you that the fans still care for these types of things even during times of change. I've been into Power Rangers since I was 10 and now at the age of 22, it's my favorite TV show as I feel like there are not many bad seasons, the score is nice, the acting is great, and there are even times of sympathy for the character's we got to know. Even if the future is unknown for PR, I'm sure many people like myself, will continue enjoying it for many years to come.

I always love seeing how much things have changed over the years. Reflecting back on what we had back in the day, and now how everything essentially fits in our pocket. I’ve said numerous times, but I’ll continue to say it. I enjoy every single video, because you are artists that put your creations out there for everyone to enjoy. You have more courage than I do. I wrote a novel back five years ago now, and no one has ever read it besides myself. The negative comments you highlighted are exactly why I don’t share my art, because people sadly find more enjoyment in hating something, than getting pleasure from it or at least being constructive about it. You are amazing creators, artists and people.

I had a VHS-C camera that would record for 1/4 second at a time. We animated everything on that. All that stuff looks so much better played back faster of course. Later you could just use a digital camera and compile the photos. It's crazy how tech has advanced.

I used VHS-C for a little while, I liked the smaller size (and weight on my back... since I always had my cameras with me in my backpack), but ended up going back to VHS through 2000, when I finally got a digital 8 camera. Glad we have tiny digital cameras now!

I think the answer to the debate with going to film school or not is "How do you learn?" I suppose that applies to education in general, but some people just need more help in certain fields than others. I did great in English, but horribly in Math during my schooling years, for example. You may be able to learn lighting and stuff from KZbin, or you may need some extra help with it. Just depends on the person. Though with that in mind, certain jobs should stop requiring degrees for them to even consider you, but that's another matter entirely.
@DividedAsOne

I'm a visual person. Classrooms put me to sleep. I need to just do. I probably would have been better off just working (which I had been since I was 16, starting at Nickelodeon while still in HS). None of the jobs I had after Pratt ever asked to see any proof that I even graduated high school. No show I worked on ever cared I went to film school, nor was that a requirement for Mia and I to start our own company. We never stop learning. This BoonBoomger thing Mia's been working on has required her to learn new things once again. I think Mia and Jerry both do a lot better in a classroom than me. (I was TERRIBLE in math.) Film school was very expensive when we went, I can't imagine today. Pratt 2.0 did look very impressive, I'd like to know what it's actually like now. But, people should really do their research today. Much different world. If you can learn in a classroom, you can learn watching tutorials. Some channels will even reply to comments or post a new video if there was something someone didn't get, and there are a zillion to choose form. We didn't have any of that. Our hardware and software is so much better and easy to use. Back then, if you shot 1 hour of video, it took 1 hour to import your video. The cost of storing that video on a drive would be a couple hundred dollars for not a lot of space. Student loans are no joke and the industry has had a good variety of issues lately. And even 20+ years ago, I hated how when your show ended, you were unemployed and had to find the next thing. Lots of jobs only lasted a few months. "Just depends on the person" does kinda dismiss the time and cost of going to a very expensive school if it's not necessary. I'm very in the middle of "I'd do it again" and "didn't have to go." It was worth it to me for reasons other than what I did (or didn't) learn. I can't promise everyone will meet their future wife in film class, of course. But, maybe! I think the main takeaway from this video is really "do your research, make sure it's the right fit for you." None of us actually needed to go to Pratt to do what we're doing now for work. Had we not gone and met each other, really no idea where we'd be or what we'd be doing instead though. So, I'm happy with how life turned out having gone to Pratt anyway, despite not learning the things I specifically applied to Pratt for.

It'll vary by individual, of course, but I'm personally better with doing vs sitting in a classroom. I learn much better by just doing things. I was terrible with teachers standing at a chalkboard and talking for 45 minutes. I'm a visual person, that just puts me to sleep. For the Brunos, I'd suggest maybe try to get an internship when you're younger at a studio, even if you also decide to go to college. You'll learn things on the job that you won't learn or learn the same way in school. Mia and Jerry went to Pratt for traditionally hand drawn cartoon animation which was pretty much completely dead by the time we graduated and moved to California, and then your competition is all of the now-out-of-work Disney animators. So, gotta be able to think outside the box and kinda reinvent jobs for yourself and recognize other opportunities, which is exactly what we've done over the years.

@@DividedAsOne I live not to far from SCAD, in Savannah, GA. I've been debating about going there since I got out of high school. I guess feeling that I wasn't good enough for the college, on top of hearing how the industry was scared me from applying (not to mention the atrocious sky high price). I did visit there earlier this year. The only professors who seemed to enjoy their subject were the animation professor, the theme park/attractions professor, and the video game professor. All the others just seemed like they were reading a script.

I think was a excellent and very insightful video and I completely agree, life before social media you were very limited to where you could learn all the different styles of filming, animation, and editing, so schooling made sense. Plus you connected and met people. Today we have all of that knowledge at our fingertips. Also I agree the cost today to goto film school and student loans would be difficult to pay off especially when there's no guarantee of breaking into the industry. So there's definitely a lot to think about and weigh the pros and cons of doing film school today when we can now learn everything from a KZbin video tutorial

I think it's great saving the past, I wish I'd been more into video. My college experience was computer science and programming back in the mid 90's and I'm sure it's very different now. At that time it was a novelty to have a cellphone in class or to have your own laptop or computer and it was so much less expensive back then, my first year at UCC was only about $1,500. I can't imagine what college costs today.

13:19 Hey Bruno! This comment actually made me think about how it’s important to let a legacy give on no matter what. I also was reminded of how at one point I almost decided to plan out a king Ohger adaptation. I have many ideas but to make a bible and outline 40 episodes I’d need a team and time. Obviously I wouldn’t write scripts or anything because then I’d actually be wasting my time but just to keep going is so much fun and I’m glad you’ll continue.

@DividedAsOne
@DividedAsOne 5 ай бұрын
That's a great sentiment for fans, but for creators like us, fan-support for high-effort work like this is the only way for it to continue. Fans are largely skipping our fancy videos for videos that take minimal to no effort, such as AI-generated videos, or video essays with someone talking over show footage. When audiences prefer videos that take seconds to create, cost nothing to make, and add little to no value, dedicated creators like us disappear. There's no incentive to invest significant time and money into creating something extraordinary if the overall audience doesn't appreciate or even want it. We plan to finish the project we've been working on for the past five months, but unless things change, that’s probably going to be the last really fancy thing we do for that channel. Creating what you love and loving what you create is a fundamental part of film-making. When you love your work, it often resonates with viewers. Artists seek satisfaction from their creations, but there's been a noticeable shift in the fandom in recent years. Fans are loudly supporting basic, unimaginative content while becoming increasingly hostile on top of not showing up. I hate to agree with that last comment, but 2024 especially has felt like we’re wasting our time. But, behind the scenes we’re working on what’s next for Bruno & Mia, it’s not going to be Power Ranger or toy related. I'll still be a fan either way, and I'll keep working on my displays as well (which are starting to come along now!)

I love these open discussion vlogs!! I graduated from a film/tv school in New York two years ago and I focused primarily on television production. For me, it was worth it because my program encouraged group participation and kept up-to-date with the latest technology. Was tuition expensive? Sure. But if I wasn’t serious about having a career in television, I wouldn’t have done it. Not only was the work flow worth it, but my network expanded greatly. I was able to make great friends/colleagues to collaborate on some great projects in and out of school. Plus, I was able to get a good job relatively quick after graduation purely because I connected with an alum on LinkedIn. In my experience, I’d definitely say that going to film/tv school does give an advantage because it does change your work ethic and it does give you the opportunity to network rather than just learning skills from the internet by yourself.

I did film studies at a Rowan in New Jersey. More about the learning in stuff. The pandemic really hindered my ability to develop deep connections with my cohort, but do have good ties with 3 in my cohort and a few others from people who also had accommodations through the university. Rowan was the first university to establish a department for this, so that trust got it on my radar in the first place when I was 14 (not worth explaining). By the time I graduated in 2022, I kind of lost my drive to go into the industry and felt more interest in education and perhaps some sociology stuff-but the latter I could probably watch more people on KZbin knowledgeable on that, but I’d like to take some courses for education before I fully set myself on that track

I went to a school for multimedia (degree in video game art). While I think you’re right that nowadays many of the skills can be learned outside of school and video/media tools are much more available and accessible (smartphones, laptops, etc), I think there are still plenty of people who benefit from learning in a school setting. Schools as an institution are good for networking and job placement, and many people (myself included) learn better when given direction and professional guidance/critique of their work that is less available outside of academia. I never got a career in media, but I appreciate all that I learned in school, and would have felt completely lost trying to experiment in this field without guidance. School isn’t needed for everyone but the flip side is that school still benefits many. 😁

As someone who does film and model making mostly as a hobby, I actually chose to study graphic design in a local college an hour away from me, mostly because I feel in todays industry it's best to expand your skills and try to be a box of all traits to keep career and job opportunities open and also the fact that if I wanted to do a major fiom course in my country I'd need to spend like 2000 euro a month on rent alone and that's before rent and tuition

Also, as you enjoy using 1080p-4K what would you go for in Australian dollars, what camera would you suggest for someone that has disabilities to use for photograph and video recording?

In this scenario, I'm not sure if I would give myself anything. We had next to nothing so we had to think creatively and outside the box to make things. Kids today can do so much on their phone/computer with apps and drag & drop effects that really don't require much creativity or learning, which I would say is reflected in what they post. I loved the look of 80s/early 90s commercials, kids shows, stop motion animation, etc, and we learned how to do all of that ourselves. People with much fancier equipment today are doing things that are far less fancy than what Mia and I (and Jerry) were doing as children in the 80s. Creatively, anyway. We developed a lot of skills not having a fancy phone and/or computer. If we had better things, would we have made better videos? I hope the answer would be yes. Today every young person's walking around with a Hollywood studio in their pocket, and all I ever see is fake pranks and people dancing, and it's all vertical video. I want to believe I would have used that technology to make my videos even better, but there's also the chance there are many things I never would have learned b/c I didn't need to. I was very young when I taught myself how to animate and do practical effects. My brain was still developing, and stuff like that really made it light up. What if that had been replaced with a phone? I don't know. I'm happy with how things turned out so I'm not going to change anything. I'm not familiar with Australian dollars and I'm having a tough time finding a new camera right now for me. I use the Canon SX740HS which seems to be discontinued (and is a very old model that hasn't been updated in years). I use a GoPro for driving and timelapse shots. The current one I have is the 10, would like to get the 12. Most people use their phones these days, which is what's killing the small digital cameras. There used to be a whole wall of small vlog cameras at Target. Now there are three, none of them are really portable. Last time we went to Best Buy they had no cameras. I've been trying to find a Canon G7X Mark 3 almost all year now, sold out everywhere. Numerous sites say "backorder." Now I'm considering the Sony ZV1 Mark II. I imagine any camera you buy in 2024 is going to be perfect for your average video/photo use. I have numerous things I need a camera to do. Most people won't have the same requirements. I'd go to wherever you would normally buy cameras, look at the price range, see what's the least expensive and watch some reviews on KZbin to see if that seems like a good camera.

Recent Community College Graduate (maybe transferring TBA?), I knew little to know understanding of the programs we used being Premier Pro and the like despite spending alot of time online. I went to a community college so professors weren't as stingy as say what you probably experienced at Pratt. I always wanted to produce content for years just didn't want to start since it felt overwhelming at times. But I feel taking online courses or in person (depending on the person's preference) is still good because it allows you to understand what is what and learn how to get the hang of things. But yeah Mia, raised a good point college is supposed to be about closer outreach then one way wall of the internet. Not saying the internet is perfect or flawed but their is a greater lack of interest when most like to stay inside or lack a strong peer/friend group. I went throughout college only really making one friend that stuck yet I have a ton of friends online in different parts of the country or world

( this is my personal opinion Bruno I didn’t go to college, I have my personal reasons why) I don’t think power rangers is officially dead, ( like dead dead) it’s just on hold for now, plus with the comic books, fanfictions, fan films, and whatever playmates is doing soon I think it’s pretty alive right now and this is coming from a diehard power rangers fan. Interesting ideas you brought up about college and specialized schools. While I generally think in 2024 there's no reason to go to college, especially with the way they are now, for very specific fields, like medicine and specialized trades higher education is still necessary. I also feel that colleges still provide basic training in making and keeping a schedule and a social component that's necessary for the greater world.

Oh I'm sure there are still a good number of things you absolutely still need to go to school for. I'm just speaking to our personal experience with film, video, and animation, where so much has changed. Even in 2010 Mia and I were still mostly meeting with clients in person and had to be living in CA to do the same work that we can now do anywhere with internet. But if I had some medical emergency, I'd rather not go to someone who watched a few KZbin videos 🙃

What software are you using with your stop motion videos?

When Mia does fancier videos she usually uses Dragonframe. Any animation I do is just single frames with my camera and I import the photos to whatever editing software I use (currently FCPX).

I wanted to go to a film school, but sadly in My country theater,film,cinema, isn't something really viable as a job, so i didn't, i regret that sometimes, i've tried doing films on my own but sometimes things don't work the way one wants to 😢 sorry if thats a down story but my point it's that if someone has the chance you should take it,no matter what

And in our case, this was something we worked at long before film school and kept learning long after. Our KZbin channels would look exactly the same had we never gone to school. We went to college at a funny time. The industry was changing and technology rapidly evolving while we were in school. When we graduated, what we went to school for was being replaced by CG and being done overseas. We just kept working at it. We had a great time being together at school, but you shouldn't just take chances no matter what, you should do your research and make sure you don't end up with loans you can never pay back for work you can't get. Jerry has a very good job, but nothing to do with video/animation. Mia and I had to create our own studio while also growing KZbin in the background. All skills we developed on our own by doing every single day. School or not, if you have the drive and passion and are willing to put in the time and effort, you can get to where you want to be. And sometimes something else opens up while you're working. We never set out to be public figures in a Power Rangers fandom, we were just trying to sell some eBay things and made cool video to go with the auctions which exploded. I was trying to be a vlogger, but I was too early, people didn't know what vlogging was yet. But, we made something happen by trying, continuing to learn new things, and recognizing other opportunities related to what we wanted to do. Lots of famous KZbinrs and people in the film industry never went to college.

@@matiasmarcelotoledop Don't give up though! Some people have success when they're young, some not until they're older. When we made KZbin happen for ourselves, we were in a bad place... in a variety of ways. That's its own story. And even back then we were also already much older than a lot of the popular people on KZbin. We kept working at it though. You never know.

But I’ve thought, is a time where vlogging everything made you a weirdo is far enough back that it would actually be interesting or is it just such a present factor that a time it was weird is not cool enough of an engine

Are you asking if seeing vlogs from the 1980s/90s/early00s would be cool to see today? If so, I certainly think so. Everybody's a vlogger today. You could see a million different people show you their life in 2024. But what was it like in 1999? 1990? 1985? How about the 70s? What was life like in the 50s? What were people like? What was popular then? What did things look like? I find things like that very interesting.

@@history_leisure Oh, our animated show, talk about being a little too ahead of your time! We mostly got a good response to that, but the main character going everywhere with a video camera and filming everything was just a little too out there, who ever heard of such a thing? 😛 Just a few months after our last pitch, KZbin came into existence. How 'bout that. And if we tried to pitch that today, I guess the main character would be another dime-a-dozen vlogger/influencer. But, I still see those characters on TV. At least now people know what a vlogger is.
