So great to see this subject addressed!!!! And, if it's allowed for me to share this, there's a GREAT book by esteemed Music Editor, Steven Saltzman, which has a huge chapter on CONFORMING. The book is called "Music Editing for Film and Television: The Art and the Process." Another invaluable resource, as your channel certainly is!! THANK YOU!

This has become my favorite channel on KZbin! Love hearing and learning about great gear and about composition. Thanks for taking the time to share.

In big movies and TV series it's the music editor that do the conform notes, (new start time and internal conforms, like "take out 3 seconds starting xx.xx.xx.xx"), composers or their assistants then move the cue to new start time to match the picture, and then do the internal conforms, remove or add music, usually better to do without big tempo changes, original tempo is big aspect of the cue

Heard the news and i must express my frustration. After the tragic news of Snyder family and his departure from JL movie, I still believed JL will be very much Zack's movie, but after news of your replacment i'm convinced that's not the case anymore. I literally was counting days yo hear Tom's Justice League score, but now this dream is dead, i feel robbed even though i'm just a consumer but i feel robbed, i will never be able to hear my favorite super heroes scored by one of my favorite composers... My hype for this movie has increasingly lessened. It's like watching slow train-wreck...

What about delivery methods? How do you present your work to directors or others who are going to approve the cue?
@reneiloe_m7 жыл бұрын
i really hate how Joss fired you composing for Justice league , but in the words of Hans Zimmer , you haven’t made it in Hollywood as a composer until you get replaced on a project

Could you do an episode of your Eurorack like you did with your 5U modular?

Can't complain about that! Looking forward to those episodes. I've studied the one you did a while a go on your 5U at least 3 or 4 times by now.

What do you think of the composer Christopher Drake and his work on the Batman animated films?

Hi Tom ! Thank you again for these great videos. There is actually no one doing that in a greater detail as you do. Big ups ! One Question: Do you use the "Process Time" and "Process Bars" feature in Cubase ? If yes do you plan a tutorial on how to use em specially when it comes to conforms ?

Thanks so much for doing this! Such a great help and inspiration. I wanted to ask, I remember you've said in one of your videos that you are self taught at music theory and in writing for orchestra and I was wondering if there is some book/books that you'd recommend? Thank you

Adervae going to miss his new Batman theme. Love the solo trumpet variation of it throughout BvS. But Elfman is a legend so it's not all bad. Still sucks though he's not scoring it
@reneiloe_m7 жыл бұрын
hope Elfman keeps the themes from previous movies , and just adds and improves them , but im still pissed that Tom isnt doing the music
@J-MLindeMusic7 жыл бұрын
Well this sucks. Elfman is Elfman, though, so the movie is in good hands...

I understand how painful these can be :'(. You Tom, Daft Punk and John 5 are the 3 Best for me and if i could, i would make music with them. And there are many other great persons who make cool things. Nice days Tom and always the Best for you ♥ d^^bV

If anyone wants to see "stressful conforming" then watch the making of Two Towers. Peter Jackson, nice guy as he is, was awful when it came to film edits and literally left himself and everybody else no extra time. He was making edits so close to deadline and you could tell it was almost too much for Howard Shore.
@oscarmike11317 жыл бұрын
bcdey84 Return of the King was even worse for Shore
@straitjacketstudios78846 жыл бұрын
The single most painful thing in scoring in my opinion...."conforms"!!!! I guess "locked edits" are a thing of the past? So much more cost effective and timely if you can get a "real" "locked edit"....Bummer!

Junkie XL: "At night, alone, you imagine an ocean. I see it, I see the island. And John Williams, you feel like he's the father you never had. He would have disappointed you." Film score fan: Get out of my head! Junkie: "I know the map's in there, and now you'll give it to me." Film score fan: I'm not giving you anything. Junkie: "We'll see.." *That cool Force rumbling sound and subtle exchange of Rey and Kylo Ren themes* Film score fan: You... are afraid that you will never be as strong as Hans Zimmer!
