@SamuelDJCoxКүн бұрын
LOST does time travel perfectly! Yes to that 100% The writers make it about the characters as their #1 goal. So they make the rules clear that there can’t be any time paradoxes. Jack, Kate, Sawyer were always in the 70s. That always happened. So any Others on the island in 2004 when Oceanic 815 crashed who had met them in the 70s would recognise them then too. It’s a time loop they always were meant to complete. They can’t change the timeline. It’s fixed. Yes they can have an impact on future events but they can’t contradict future events. And the whole concept of time travel is put in place to explore the story themes they’ve been exploring since S1… that being people reflecting on the past and their current lives. The same thing is at play now except instead of flashbacks showing the characters memories of their former lives… now the characters are actually IN the past… the same themes are being explored in a new literal Sci Fi way. In S1 the question was “on the island can these people change and become better people than they were in their pasts?”. Now S5 is asking - can these same people in fact change the world and the timeline around them? It’s looking at what our characters can do to change themselves/their world around them just in a new way. It’s not done just for the fun of it - even though it is fun - no it’s still done to explore and underline the human themes and issues which have been in the show since S1 and the plane crash. Great reaction!
@juliet_burkeКүн бұрын
Love it! To me LOST is about all these themes but I precept it through Buddhist ideas of karma and dharma. "We are the reasons of our own sufferings" - room 23 video. It's all how their past actions make them in the future work on /pay for/ deal with the problems they have created. LOST is a story about life karma and people's dharma (best ways to live and act).

This. Somebody gets it. If you were to look at only the first couple seasons of Lost, I think it would be fair to summarize it as a show about "people who seem doomed to repeat history because of their inability to stop living in the past." Season Five, for all its eccentricities, is probably the purest representation of the show's entire philosophy since day one. But so few people seem to recognize what you've articulated here-that time travel arc simply takes what Lost has always presented figuratively and presents it through a different, more literal lens. But it is absolutely consistent with the themes of the show from the very beginning.

The Hydra passengers, Frank, Sun and Ben Linus remained in the present day in 2007. Remember Eliose said that the circumstances of them ending up on the island to begin with had to be replicated otherwise the results would hav been unpredictable or in her words "Then God help us all."

Yes. My theory is that the picture was there all along and Ben is lying about it on the next episode, as I am sure you have already seen it. Also, I can’t believe that you didn’t mention this already, remember when the Others, Danny specially, Juliet included had Kate and Sawyer break rocks to build some sort of runway? @jeffwontshutupКүн бұрын
I beleive you course corrected yoursefl but you were initially reading too much into a perceived "time disparity" ... Sun & co are just in the present and the rest in the past. The island isn't in a time bubble. Our characters physically time traveled. For Sun and Frank both Islands are in 2007 and for the rest both islands are in 1977. For some reason the island caused Jack, Kate Hurley and Sayid to time travel but the plane itself landed in the year it took off. That being said, it did go from day to night ... remember the season four MacGuffin of "the bearing?" It's not explained but I've always assumed the plane flew at the island in the wrong direction and lost or gained a few hours, like what happened to the helicopter, hence going from night to day. Radzinsky has been mentioned by name before but never seen, in Desmond's first flashback. He's Kelvin's first partner, who ended up a stain on the ceiling. Between some of the things Horace said both last episode and in S3's "Man Behind the Curtain," and Radzinsky's erratic behavior here, this is where if you didn't notice, we start to see maybe Dharma wasn't so hippy-dippy utopian after all. Now that we actually get to see Dharma, at least for me, me feelings about both Dharma and the Others start to get a bit muddied and I mean that in a good way. Remember in season 2 -- "we're the good guys?" "We're gonna name him 'Ethan.'" -- Juliet IMMEDIATELY puts him down LMFAO. "I lied." -- First time Sun has admitted a lie since Sayid called her out on it in season 3?

I got the impression that the actors (Evangeline Lilly and Matthew Fox) could not decide how to express the emotions of their characters, from the fact that they were in 1977. Or it just seems to me. The same goes for when Jack saw Pierre Chang. Jack's reaction seemed a little strange to me. There was a feeling that the actor (Matthew Fox) just sat there and was blown away by what was happening on the set of this show. 🤣

Somehow the universe also corrects itself for major events to happen and even timelines can cross over. So the picture could be on the wall and not there at the same time depending on the timeline.
