Great review!! I believe Edie Falco won an Emmy for this episode. I had the privilege to sit in on the taping of a scene from this. The scene where Tony goes to confront Irina and she’s not home so he has a scene on the stoop with Svetlana, which took a good 3-4 hours. I met Gandolfini afterwards. We talked a bit about how we both graduated the same year of HS but different towns. He signed a cast pic for me and took a pic with me and my wife. You could imagine how fucking excited I was. I’ll never forget it. Best celeb meet ever!!! Keep up the good work!

That's really awesome man. I've never been into wanting to meet a celeb except Mr James. Sadly learned about how much of an amazing person was after his death. He was big into helping wounded warriors and there's some cool KZbin videos of him interacting with vets and their families. My only wish besides James getting to still be living and acting still, is I wish we got more interviews from him. The few that are on KZbin I've listened to over and over really made me appreciate James Gandolfini much more as a human

I couldn't agree more. The rewatchability factor with The Sopranos is off the charts. Its brilliance demands repeat viewings. I watched it in real time when it first aired, and have been watching the entire series on DVD, now Blu-ray, almost every year since, and it never gets old. I find myself missing spending time with these characters, and wanting to get back on this roller coaster with them over and over again.

Everyone was on fire in this finale, and when I first saw this I didn't appreciate the expertly crafted bait-and-switch like I do now. Ramping up to a finale where a boss of one of the five families is going to be whacked and instead of that, we get an explosive whacking of Tony and Carmela's relationship. This one episode won oh so many awards and they're all well deserved.

It's so interesting how you keep saying during certain scenes and episodes how you sometimes forget you're even watching a show. I remember watching this when it first aired and feeling like I'd just been in an actual fight when it was over. Absolutely incredible stuff.

You keep saying Carmela isn't a saint but honestly do you think she would have done anything with any other guys if Tony wasn't busy spending his time and energy on other women throughout the years? Would she have been spending time With Father Intintola if Tony was home to watch movies and drink wine with her instead of getting BJs and gambling at the Bing? Would she have given Vic a second glance if Tony wasn't spending his energy and time having day sex with Irina on his yacht? Would she have given Furio the time of day if tony wasn't fucking a car saleswoman at a day trip at the zoo? There's just no comparison IMO. If Carmela really had it in her heart to cheat she would have done it a hundred times. She wanted to be a loyal wife to a loyal husband and of course she loves the power and money Tony has but I don't think it's fair to say she's just as guilty of cheating. In my opinion of course. The main difference is Carmela can stop herself and has a conscience about being unfaithful and actually shows guilt while Tony has none. Love the reacts by the way, some great insights!

The problem is not in the cheating. Tony is absolutely POS and an undisputed winner when it comes to cheating competition. The problem with Carmela is that she is a) a completely boring person who does not really deserve the attention she demands and b) she wants to enjoy all the perks of the mob wife lifestyle without getting any of the negatives. In that sense she is a huge hypocrite, not in the sense of cheating. If Tony was not a complete POS, he would have initiated the divorce long ago, because he is clearly completely uninterested in Carmela. That would be an honest and right thing to do. But when was he honest? If we disregard the mob thing for a moment (because it will always make both of them 100% the bad guys), the only way for Tony to be a good person here is to admit to himself that this relationship no longer interests him and end it. The only way for Carmela to be a good person here is to realize that her sense of self and meaning in life should not be tied to romantic fantasies fulfilled by others, but that she should instead be herself interesting in order to attract interesting people. She is not entitled to anyone's love and attention, and especially not entitled to guilt anyone into it, which is something she does over and over to everyone around her (Livia lite)

When jurors cannot agree on a verdict and report this to a judge, the judge may issue further instruction to them to encourage those in the minority to reconsider their position. These instructions are known as an Allen charge or, more casually, as a dynamite charge. The Allen charge is named for the United States Supreme Court case Allen v. United States (1896) in which the Court approved such instructions in federal cases.

Reaction was the best I never been involved in a family divorce but from seeing movies like Richard Linklaters Boyhood which was filmed actually over 12 years with the same actors if you have not seen the movie, I highly recommend you react to it. divorce from a kids perspective is never good It hurts seeing people go through that. You should react that movie if you haven’t, I highly highly highly recommended one of my faves.

It does go both ways and that's what makes it so captivating. For anyone to strictly just be on either Tony or Carm's side shows they themselves are most likely similar to them in some degree. Probably one of the best on screen arguments around. Felt so organic that im sure middle aged divorced men still get PTSD flashbacks of their own marriages from these fight scenes

I mean, Tony is a complete monster for many reasons, but he is right about one thing - Carmela really has nothing to say. Throughout the whole show, she is this extremely boring person concerned only with appearances. If she has an opinion on something, you can tell that it is the "proper" opinion imprinted on her by church or tradition, her gossip circle, or whomever. The default answer of a suburban mom. Like Livia (but to a much lesser degree, Livia is pathological) she is quite empty and has no sense of self and meaning unless validated by external factors, like things and people she ties her identity to. Her life is empty and she expects someone else to provide fulfillment. The problem is, people with empty lives do not attract or retain the attention of others.

With Junior's trial, It's a bit daft that a high profile Mafia-related RICO case wasn't being tried before an anonymous jury. The justice system learned that the hard way after John Gotti was tried and acquitted three times in 1986, 1987 and 1990. Each time that Gotti was a acquitted, it was as a result of jury tampering, juror misconduct and witness intimidation. It was only after the fourth attempt, in his trial in 1992, that Gotti would be tried before an anonymous jury. This time around, Sammy Gravano flipped and testified against Gotti. Gotti was convicted and sentenced to life without parole.

@@darth856I thought an anonymous jury would mean that there would be a shield, a protective screen, or a two-way mirror put up between the jurors and everyone else in the courtroom? In 1985, Angelo Lonardo, acting boss of the Cleveland crime family (1981 - 1983), was serving a 103-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, having been convicted in 1983, when he flipped and testified against his fellow mobsters in Cleveland and other cities. On 15 April 1988, when Lonardo testified before the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigation of the Committee on Governmental Affairs regarding the Mafia's control of and influence over the Teamster's Union, he did so whilst being shielded by a protective screen.

It’s bad that carm threw furio under the bus but her “cheating” is in no way even at all comparable to Tony’s. Any man who would actually make love to Carmella would end up dead. She clearly wanted to pursue both men with the wallpaper man and furio but couldn’t and I think that added to her anger

You do have a point that Carmela should have known at least partially what she was getting into. I am reminded of Charmaine revealing that she slept with Tony in high school, but ultimately decided that "it wasn't for me". Tony wasn't a made guy or anything back then, but his trajectory was probably already clear, and Charmaine said no thanks to that.

It’s somewhat unfair to keep bringing up BB. Both BB and Sopranos had their own vibes and their own stylistic choices. The Sopranos was ultimately a character drama before it was anything else. Breaking Bad was more of a pulp-y show and thriller before it was anything else. I will say that the twists and turns and cliffhangers did get exhausting and unnecessary and sometimes undermined the logistics and characterization of the series. BB did a poor job at establishing the world building limits and the motivations and morals of its characters. It’s still one of the great shows still. It just doesn’t have a ton of rewatch value.

Such a great reaction. Carmela has narcissistic personality disorder - it's all about her. She gets a new beach house and she's ecstatic - all is forgotten. She can't be happy for anyone else. Doesn't want to work for anything - it's all easy money. Her kids have now seen through her big bag of bullshit. That being said, Mr. Moses, (LOL) the comment that "the man who worked for the money to buy the house is now leaving it" - we do have the concept of marital property here, which is based on the belief that being a wife, homemaker and mother is also an important job, entitling the wife to a half of all property acquired during the marriage. As they sang in "Singin' In The Rain" - "Moses Supposes" (LOL)
@gg829
@gg829 4 ай бұрын
If we look at that marriage only, Tony's biggest sin was not cheating, but not leaving her as soon as he realized he was no longer interested in her. That is his real mistake when it comes to his marriage, not chasing other girls.
