The guy that was with Omar, that got killed in the apartment, is the real guy that Omar’s character is based off of…

“How do you get from here to the rest of the world?” “Wish I knew” convos like this one between cutty and duquan are why I’ll always regard season 5 highly despite its flaws. Small scene with Heartbreaking dialogue from characters we’ve come to love.

Peak tragedy right there - a pair of sympathetic characters, eager to do the right thing, yearning for a good outcome, and knowing only one has a chance to get it.

I think it’s the only time so far that Lester’s called Daniel’s Cedric. I don’t know but it’s a nice touch about their relationship.

Don't worry, whatever they could cut because of the run time, they already did. It's the setup to these storylines that got the most affected, that way in which the front half of every season felt a bit slower. As for Joe, he was mentioned, you properly didn't notice it, and that was certainly the point. When the news room is talking about stories, one mentions that a local drug dealer named Joseph Stewart was found killed in his home , and they don't even include it on the paper. Joe was arguably one of the most powerful people in town, or so we've come to see him as, but he's still downright insignificant to the broader world. Like others mentioned, the balcony scene is based on a story Donnie Andrews told, and it's testament of how unbelievable itbis that they made it a fall from the 4th rather than the 6th floor. Which also indicates the writers were not sure they believed Donnie either. It's kind of understated how much Omar lives on reputation alone. There's countless times on the show where he could have been shot, but people don't risk it because of what will happen if they come at him and fall short. "Come at the king, you best not miss". So it's possible that Donnie was just embellishing, and since he's sadly passed away since, he took the truth to the grave. But it fits perfectly with the season's theme of tall lies and even taller truths, and how everyone carries themselves on what they think they know.

In the last episode, McNulty used a set of false teeth to make bite marks on one of the "victims." That's where the biting comes from. He didn't just make it up when talking to the reporters. He planted the evidence, then played coy to make the reporters believe they dragged it out of him. There's a cultural reference you might have missed. At the end of his radio interview, Clay Davis says, "It's time to lift every voice." That's from the song "Lift Every Voice and SIng," also known as the "black national anthem." It's a signal to the listeners that this is a racial thing, and that they should treat it as such. He made a less subtle reference earlier when he talked about tying the knot in the noose. They use similar coded language in the rally, where they talk about persecution and end with the singing of "We Shall Not Be Moved," a civil rights anthem. There have been several notable real-life cases of reporters completely making up stories. The movie Shattered Glass (2003) is about one of them, when Stephen Glass wrote a series of articles for The New Republic that were entirely fictional.

There’s a running joke this season that everytime someone talks about the fake serial killer they are just describing Jimmy. Mcnutty says the killer is now biting people (that’s him), he’s becoming more obsessive (again, him). Templetons voice description is Jimmy.

At the end it's what I said in the beginning, The Greek Vondis was showing Marlo how to text. That what that communication was that Freeman heard.

Great spot about Marlo giving his number away to a law firm employing a former cop with a vendetta against him. Bad move. Btw, I don't know if you remember but "that little kid" who threw the bottle at Dukie was the one cosplaying as Omar in S3 after Tosha got killed in that street fight with the Barksdale crew. Great ending with Snoop and Lester closing their scenes saying "What the- ?" Also, you *can* get your hands on TW scripts online.

Mcnulty and Templeton are both bulshitting here but diff is Mc is doing it to get police work done, while scott does it to up his cred and go up the ladder, win a prize or something. Mcnulty realizes it and goes along lol it was just a perfect storm for both

It's a perfect McNutty/toxic/codependent relationship. Also, love the tell on his face when he realizes he just got Scott to all but admit that he placed the call. Also note that no one has to explain to him that it's a "big story" for the paper. Shows he's _still_ lying and a step ahead of Scott later in the season during their final interaction.

Marlo Just made the biggest mistake of his short career, giving Levy that number. Vondis said you can CALL your Lawyer. And the number won't come up. But if you give the number your breaking yours and his rules. They say don't Ever get comfortable, you will make mistakes.

Chile...Scott...chile smfh I hate Herc, Stringer, Burrell, Valchek, Kenard, Cheese, The Greek, De'Londa, Marlo, Nerese, etc. Plenty of characters to hate in this show and yet the disdain I have for Scott...is unmatched 😂😂😂 Leave it to The Wire to make a JOURNALIST of all people possibly their most hated character. The guy stands for absolutely nothing and the gag of it all is that he's not even good at his job and is clearly only being praised due to brown nosing. Just...a complete waste of space 😂 Brilliant character though at least in regards to the themes of this season and props to the actor. The pacing for this season is definitely a high point but ymmv on how it effects the overall story. Just like you I enjoyed it immensely even though it definitely caught me offguard initially due to how The Wire is usually structured and paced and there are definitely a couple of storylines more episodes needed to develop but all in all I always thought the final season was great. It's episodes like this one that actually made me far more interested in the fake serial killer plot than I previously had been.

Yes, he's a weasely dude only looking out for himself, but the way everyone else seems to hate Scott so much more than I do makes me worry i just be the "Scott" in someone else's life! For me, some by-the-book busybody like Gus or some my-way-or-the-highway child like Jimmy are way worse to have to work with. Yes, Scott lacks talent, a work ethic, self-reflection, etc. And most of all Scott lacks self-control, and so things get out of hand. I guess what i have a problem with is this idea that, "it always starts with something small - cleaning up a quote." And if it comes down to either someone needs to be reigned in from too much creative writing or else "but mah exact quotes!!!" then I can only respond with one of my favorite Bible quotes, "if cheat thou doth not, then verily doth thou not try."

Elie, I see your agreeing but I don't think you understood what Cutty meant when Talking to Dukie. What he was saying to Duke was I understand if you're going to be in the game, Your going have to learn to defend yourself. But if you're not, fighting isn't the only answer. But you have to know Cutty doesn't know Dukie, and He's not Going to be Buds Nanny Forever. The fast life is just that. Michael working for Marlo is coming to an end soon.
