Fast X is the tenth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Damn. As per usual, someone from Dom Toretto's past shows up to challenge him and his family (this time it's Jason Momoa's Dante). Then there are bunch of cool cars and races and chases and gravity-defying action sequences. And the problem is that the movie and the franchise has grown too massive. So in today's Anatomy of a Failure, let's try to understand what that means.

Fast X (2023)
The end of the road begins. Fast X, the tenth film in the Fast & Furious Saga, launches the final chapters of one of cinema’s most storied and popular global franchises, now in its third decade and still going strong with the same core cast and characters as when it began. Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything-and everyone-that Dom loves, forever. In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante (Aquaman’s Jason Momoa), witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom everything wrong with fast x honest trailer fast x best moments funniest moments only action fast x cars rome sequence italy scene bomb fast x explained official trailer fast x ending fast x best action scenes watch fast x full movie online free fast x watch online clip hd 4k pay the ultimate price. Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son (Leo Abelo Perry, Black-ish) is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance. Directed by Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans, The Incredible Hulk), Fast X stars returning cast members Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Jason Statham, John Cena and Scott Eastwood, with Oscar® winner Helen Mirren and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron.

This whole movie felt like a support group room for Dominic. It’s hilarious. Every interaction Dominic had with a character outside of the action was just them telling him “Oww you’ve been through so much, you’re a strong person for holding on and pushing through it all” and it was sooo annoying, literally every time and I would feel it coming up in the dialogue every time.

They had Aquaman, Peacemaker, Groot, and Clea from Doctor Strange, and cameoed Wonder Woman and Black Adam as well. Another problem with these movies is that characters just don't die. First Letty died in 4, but then came back two movies later. Then after Han died, they brought him back in 9. Then I saw John Cena die in this one, and I didn't believe it. Then Gal Gadot showed up at the end, even though she died back in 6, making the theory that John Cena is still alive even more likely. Stakes? What's that?

Yeah, Game of Thrones really showed the audience how much better a story can be if everyone can be on the chopping block. I feel like so many series would be better if they were willing to kill off characters. If the whole cast makes it through everything, does it lower the tension in risky situations?

@@barnabusdoyle4930 That is the main issue in writing... You establish characters and put them in a situtation and they become fan favourites... From this point on you have two options - 1. Keep them in te story as long as possible, giving them plot armor; 2. Remove them from the story by killing or some other means of them to exit and risk it all to fall apart and loose its fandom... There is no easy way to handle it... In general I support the 2 option and it works great with books, but with Movies and TV in general it doesn't because you have so little time to establish a character and if you kill him, then you did it all for nothing, but if you keep them too long in then you risk to either not move the story or to just create some side shit for this character to do, which will dissolve the story... Many authors do just that and in the end we get fan favourite characters in the 8'th season of some show that just don't have anything to do and are just there for the runtime, which drags the quality down a lot...

It is mentioned in Fast X that Dante was in and out of hospitals since he was a child, and the fall from the bridge is implied to have given him brain damage as well, since you can see blood coming out his head. And Dante saying that he lost everything probably has more to do with him losing his father and his father's empire than his wealth. So Dante's insanity and motivations are his actual core. I think the problem is that the film doesn't make it clear that this is the case from the outset, which makes it seem like Dante's core isn't consistent.
@MrShadowSmith
@MrShadowSmith Жыл бұрын
I think that could have been explained as well if dante actually lost everything including wealth and had to work his ass of to make a new criminal empire in those 10 years maybe starting as common criminal or something. That would also establish he is so determined he would stop at nothing to get what he wants(in this case revenge against dom). The movie writers probably thought it was unnecessary and filled in some fight scene instead.

The movie is full of big name actors, so everyone wanted their own: - action scene - cool stunt - funny moment - trailer moment And with such a big cast that's just so much time. Fast X was dam too big. The franchise doesn't want to let go the characters, I was expecting Dante to be a highly motivated and relentless syncopate that is on a mission to hurt Don by killing one by one of his Family. This would play out in way to make Don question his ability to protect his loved ones, break Don in way that makes him feel weaker and scared of what Dante can do next.

The Fast series was once about fast cars, hot women, cops and criminals. Now it is this: -Superhumans -Endless retcons -Siblings or children that were never mentioned once by the heroes or villains or side characters in past films -Physics doesn't exist -The main cast(including Cipher) have special contracts that say that their characters can not lose a fight(NO STAKES!!!) -META F*CKING HUMOR!!! -BRIE "PLANK" LARSON!!!!!

Dante is the 3rd antagonist who comes out of nowhere to get revenge, and we're supposed to take him as a far more serious threat than Cipher, despite that Cipher has been a more legit threat than him. She killed Elena, took Dom's child hostage, and made Dom turn on his team. What has Dante done? He just frames the entire gang for something they didn't do (which Cipher indirectly did as well) and puts them all at risk, without killing anyone. Sure, Jacob dies (although his return is very much possible considering Han) but that was indirect and not even part of his plan. There's nothing about him that makes me believe that he is a far worse threat than Cipher is. In fact, I find Deckard Shaw to be more of a threat than him.

I was thinking the same thing, like, "Isn't this about the eighth person coming back to get revenge on Dom or the team?" (I'm not calling it that other word. ) Don't forget Shaw initially came in to get revenge also.

@@jimthar17 That's what I meant by "Dante is the 3rd antagonist", in that he is the 3rd big bad to have a revenge plot like Cipher and Deckard. And ironically, Deckard's was far better due to being set up ahead of time in F6, even though he really isn't the main antagonist of F7.

Loved the video, though I would argue that Dante’s core is explained when Dom confronts him and says: “you had all that money…” and basically implies that because he was born wealthy, Dante doesn’t appreciate the life of luxury he has. This matches perfectly with this statement of “I lost everything”. He lost his father that’s what hurt him the most but he didn’t really lose everything. The issue is that he’s a psychopathic spoiled rich child who’s throwing a tantrum. THAT is the true core of his character which informs every single action he does. This is also why he’s such a good foil to Dom. Dom and the gang all come from poverty and rose up, they value wealth for the safety and stability it can bring. Dante doesn’t appreciate any of it and just goes on rampage after rampage because he’s letting off steam. In the intro they also reveal that Dante presented very clear psychopathic tendencies since he was a child. All of this is what informs his character.

@Selrisitai
@Selrisitai Жыл бұрын
My theory is that it's not an inherent attention span reduction, but a contextual one. In other words, if you have to sit and read a book, you can't do it because you fidget and there's not enough stimulation. If you watch a movie at home you get popcorn, a soda, maybe order a pizza and even then, you find something else to do with your hands, or you watch it in the background, or you have friends to goof around with while it's playing. If you go to a movie theater, however, you have this expectation that primes your mental state: I'm here to sit and watch a movie. So you can.

Since the Sherlock fight is mostly not a “fight” I also wanted to bring up some other great contrasts, Thanos vs the group on Titan but especially when he fought Dr. Strange and Tony. Both men were just doing a last ditch desperate attempt to stop him, tried very specific stuff (especially Strange like trapping him in the mirror world and the the shadow clones all trying to restrain him) only for Thanos to counter every single time until there was nothing left. The fight is less than 30 seconds but vastly more memorable and exciting than any two people just punching each other back and forth. Not that a story can’t be told with punches (Neo vs Smith in all 3 of the original matrix trilogy films told a little story. Like Neo gaining the confidence to fight, Smith showing he’s still superior physically, only for Neo to expand a little more and innovate enough to start to close the gap before suffering an overwhelming defeat and either running or being aided by an outside force -either a train or a god. Both all 3 fights use these exact same beats and it’s more interesting than just punches because of it)

There just are no consequences & no weight to events in this cinematic universe anymore. A character dies? Wait for a few sequels for them to be ‘resurrected’. A large physical obstacle? No problem for it’s no match to the power of family. Villain commits despicable acts? No problem after a few forced alliances he’ll be redeemed by the power of family. I mean Shaw presumably murdered Han so no way they should’ve forgiven him in Fast 8. If they ‘redeem’ Cipher after all the shit she pulled then I Riot.

I honestly thought that the movie had great potential to pick up the slack of the most recent movies (8 and 9 specifically, 7 is still amazing) with the villain also having potential to be the most memorable antagonist in the entire franchise. Even the ending is shockingly different and sets it a part on its own. Like, everything was there. But as you said, it was just too bloated. If they cut out some fat, refined a few scenes, finalized a few characters FX could've been one of the best Fast movies of all time, definitely top 3 material. It had the potential, everything was in place, the film makers just...fumbled the bag too many times so to speak.

Isn't he also producer or owns rights to Riddick? So it's not like he's done only groot but also has Riddick franchise besides Fast & Furious.

Honestly, the more deranged and out of touch they get with reality in these movies the more I like it lol

They're stuck in a state of one-upmanship. They should be in space shuttles by now...but stuck in a state of doing the minimum. All they needed to do was keep the storyline grounded (pun intended). Now, we can't go back to the basics.

It doesn't help that they are constantly ret-conning all of the major character deaths from previous movies, because it sets the precedent that no-one is in any danger whatsoever, essentially removing any sense of purpose that the characters have. Why can't they just stay dead? Oh, because the movie needs them to get people talking about it, that's why. It's a really bad habit that the Furious franchise has been abusing way too much over the past few movies.

Remember when the franchise was about car culture/ illegal street racing in the ghetto? Now it is all gone. It is like when Marvel Comics tried to make The Punisher fight against aliens and other non street level bad guys, it simply does not work.

Couldnt you argue some scenes in JW4 were too long too? Like some of the ohsahka fight scenes didnt end and were just repetition a lot of the time imo

JW is about the fight scenes. The plot makes my brain hurty. What did John accomplish?

Completely agree. They made Jason Mamoa into a crappy version of the Joker when in reality, they should have made him into Bane.

I mean, the movie is definitely better than 9th installment. It's an amusement ride, and it's doing its job well - it amuses. I certainly liked it more than John Wick 4, which gets lauded by virtually anybody, despite being almost entirely a monotone, non-stop shootout. I was hyped for both movies, but while I was essentially disappointed by JW4, I've enjoyed watching FX
