Frasier Reboot Season 2 - Episode 9 Review

I noticed that you have been reviewing Fraser Reboot. We haven't watched it yet because my sister saw a bad review. We loved the original Fraser. It was so funny and witty and had a great cast.

The original Frasier is one of my all time favorite shows! The reboot definitely takes a little time to get going, but season 2 (especially the second half) that just wrapped up is really quite akin to the original show!

A much better episode than last week. At her best Olivia has shades of Rebecca from Cheers, and that’s where she needs to go. She has Diane’s intellect and Rebecca’s social prowess with men.

That's a great observation! I can definitely see some similarities there, and both kind of started out the same way too, more buttoned-down, until the writers saw they needed to be more wacky to work.

A- a good score. Frasier has always been somewhat cool. In Cheers he was really Sam’s only male friend. Sam tolerated the other guys, but did not mind Frasier. The joke of Sam was always that he played a dumb jock; however, early on you learn his brother is a corporate lawyer, so Sam was brighter than he pretended. Conversely, Frasier would grow weary of intellectuals, which is actually why he hung out in Cheers, often with Freddy when Lillith was gone. The character of Freddy is definitely a man who could have evolved from spending his early childhood hanging around a bar like Cheers. Olivia is getting better. She is definitely a nerd, but they are going away from “strong female” trope and developing quirks and vulnerabilities. She is also beginning to have more in common with Frasier. Roz should set her up on a date.

I see where you're going with that, but also think back to some of the episodes where Frasier was presented as the butt of the joke, the snipe hunt for example, or when he has to keep going back to the store for balloons because Carla kept destroying them. He may have been cooler than Cliff or Norm but I'd say Carla and Woody were Sam's "cool" buddies. I do like where you're going with Freddy though, but I think his formative years were mostly with Lillith so I don't think he spent much time at Cheers once Frasier moved to Seattle when Freddy was like 3. I definitely agree Olivia is becoming a much better-written character and I think with the addition of Roz we will finally see her emerge as a good character, potentially same with Eve too. They were clearly bonding a bit in a couple episodes this season.

KZbin won't let me post the review of this episode. I think the review may have been too long for KZbin comments. Basically I thought the premise of the episode was good. But I didn't like the overacting from Dev Sharma? He needs to go back to Nick Jr. Roz and David are once again given very little to do. Roz is just a bystander in most episodes and her delivery is coming off very wooden. Hopefully next season will be a little longer. But I'm not sure if that would solve the problem. As I'm not seeing a ton of continuity from even last season to this season.

I also think they should have given Roz and Freddy and Eve a b story. Roz in the OG series wouldn't have hung out with a bunch of snooty Harvard professors.

I'm so sorry KZbin was being difficult when you were trying to make your comment. I always love hearing everyone's thoughts on this show. It's funny you say that about Dev Sharma... I really wasn't familiar with his voice work, but reading up on him for these reviews, seems like his bread and butter really has mostly been kid's cartoons. I can't agree about Roz's wooden delivery, but perhaps it's taking her awhile to get back into the swing of things? She hasn't acted very much in the last 20 years. I don't know if you watch The Conners, but I felt the same about Lecy Goranson, who essentially left the business after the original Roseanne ended. I felt like it took her a little time to get back into the groove. I can agree that on the OG show, Roz might not have hung with a bunch of snooty professors, but she is still new to Boston and really only knows Frasier and his friends/family, so hanging with them in whatever they're doing makes sense to me. David was okay in this episode, but he is not a great character. They could perhaps redeem him. David’s best episode was Cape Cod. The fact that he likes Roz’s daughter so much was great and those two had some chemistry. Roz’s daughter nay be able to save David.

I guarantee we will see much more of Alice now that Roz is in Boston (and since she's portrayed by Kelsey's daughter that won't hurt her chances of being in more episodes either)
