the first episodes are definitely the most "confused". The thing is Alfred is the main character and we as viewers follow him the most. In the first episode, we also follow his father quite a bit. As the show goes on we will see Alfred age and mature and with hat face bigger and more mature problems. Also not that Dolf (the crow) goes through an arch of his own, just a negative one. He starts as an insecure kid and becomes much worse as a result of his experiences.

I'd loved to see you watch the rest of the series. Especially the episodes where Alfred is an adult, when he meets his future south African duck wife.

You ain't seen nothing yet. You gotta watch the whole show! I grew up with this show and it was pretty big here in Germany and I even had all kinds of merchandise. Though some of the more serious aspects went completely over my head as a kid. The German version uses the same voice actors as the Dutch version which made them sound super cute with their Dutch accents, but also made it all the more unsettling when it suddenly shifts tone and becomes serious (which it does regularly throughout the show).

2:19 Only the male one is a crow. The female one is a blackbird. That'll be important later.

I'm a big fan of the show and can appreciate all your comments! I see what you mean about the tone. Yes, it is a bit all over the place. There are many heavy themes that play throughout the series, but sometimes there are also episodes that are very light-hearted. Maybe some of this was filler, both in the entire series and in the individual episodes? I mean, they did need to fill exactly 22 minutes every time, and 2 * 26 episodes for the entire series. I think it's plausible that the writers started by writing out the heavier lines, and then thought of more lighthearted things to fill up the rest. I could be wrong, though. :)

I love this show and grew up with it, but it's kind of hard to share it with my english speaking friends, since I don't like the english translation at all. The voice actors may be acceptable, but I feel like the translation itself wasn't done very well. Feels like a lot of important nuances get lost from the script. I personally grew up with the german dub, which I think is even better than the Dutch dub, since it had a more natural sounding audio quality and a more varied cast of voice actors. But since my friends don't speak german, I'd have to add subtitles. If you speak dutch, I'd suggest you stick with the original dutch dub, even if the voice actors are limited. At least the dialog follows the original intentions of the writers. If not, well, there's a youtuber called Amayirot Akago who has made a retrospective about this show and has shared his own subtitle files in the descriptions of said videos. However, for legal reasons you'd have to provide your own rip of the dutch DVD release to play with them.

The finnish dub, on the other hand, is wonderful. Alfred's and Dolf's voices are perfect. On the other hand the opening and ending are sung by a cacophonic child choir. Many (if not most?) songs are cut, including the singing in the backgrounf and the Crow Party march. I want to know what the lyrics say but i don't speak dutch. Or german.

I hate Alfred's voice in most dubs.

Its not hard to understand what this show is about: its about the world society and how beautiful and how cruel the world is. Just watch the entire series and question yourself: what isnt this show about?

Things really go off the rails towards the end of season 1, I believe sold Dolf actually prepares a speech about the importance of racial purity. It is so weird and even a bit uncomfortable to see this. I sometimes forget how heavy the subject matter of kids shows could be. I wonder what you think about season 2, things happen...
@saagabragi69383 жыл бұрын
Season 1's background theme seemed to be Dolf becoming more and more evil, culminating in Dolf turning into bird hitler. It made sense to me. on the other hand, season 2 was made of random one-shots (that had nothing to do with anything and didn't affect the characters or the world in any way) and the finale was rather bland. I expected something darker or more introspective.

@@Holland4evahh Season 2 had much more filler and much less coherence. But i would say the Atrique arc, the middle east arc, and the Land of Two arc were on the same level as the Crows' Party arc.
