Waymond's "kindness is how I fight" speech is just... everything. It's everything. This movie broke me and put me back together.

my favourite part of the movie is the final fight, where she defeats everyone who comes after her not with kicks and punches, but with finding what each individual needed and bringing it to them. the final battle is fought with kindness. loved it.

I cry every time I see that scene. That speech not only validates kindness as the antidote to nihilism but also reminds us that it isn't the bad guys vs us. It's all suffering vs all of us, everywhere, all at once. Kindness is recognizing that we aren't enemies but rather teammates who should be working together to ... find our joy. Also, Pop Culture Detective did a really great essay on Waymond. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWi8n5V9qN-WmJo

Hearing waymond speech made me cry until the end. Its so much meaningful to me because thats how I face people "be kind". That is my motto, everyone has their own problems, challenges that they are going through and I must not be a dick to them. A simple gesture of kindness like a thank you or a smile.Hoping that someone even for just a moment they feel some positive emotion. A simple kind gesture can tip off the scale of a person that has given up.
@WaywardBrigand

Waymond's speech legitimately makes me cry every time I see the scene. It's the one bit of fiction that I relate to completely. And the fact that Waymond's life is falling apart around him and he doesn't stop fighting his way is just breathtaking. Alpha Waymond fails. Normal Waymond succeeds. It's his plead for kindness that ultimately wins the day.

Another pretty big comeback that you kinda have to know, is Harry Shum Jr. The guy being puppeted by racaccoony. He was one of the "main cast" of glee. But he's Asian, so he gets put in the background for basically the whole run of that awful show with the minimum amount of lines. Just the guy who dances. And in this movie, he gets voice lines. Gets to be the center of a really memorable and hilarious section lampooning a disney movie with a bad puppet. And you watch it. And you're really, really hoping Michelle Yeoh gets that guy to that puppet. This movie did so many things and I just really like that little bit of hollywood redemption. Michelle Yeoh agrees to be in the first almost entirely Asian movie since the 70s. Four years later, on the other side of a world altering pandemic, we get a movie about accepting your queer kids. Caring about your family. Bringing Ke Huy Quan back to a place where I think he'll bring something special to the screen. James Hong gets to be the face of grandparents accepting their queer kids and a tiny bit of catharsis for those who won't ever get that in real life. Stephanie Hsu gets to be a terrifying, badass, butt kicking antagonist and also represents every queer, non-white, non-movie star perfect kid out there who is just mad at the world and their parents for not accepting them. I cried in the theater. Not a few tears. Something ugly came out of my chest and I had to choke it down so I wouldn't miss two rocks sliding towards each other beautifully. With no context, I tell people this movie is a close relative to Love, Simon. If they know, they know. If they get it, they really get it. This is one of the most important movies in the whole world to me.

In 3 months I've seen it at least 6 times (which is more than I've seen most films) and it still excites me, floors me and moves me in the exact same way if not even more. my understanding from a lot of what I've read is that they left a ton of ideas on the cutting room floor; there are whole arcs for minor characters that were envisioned and then discarded. I would argue it's a pretty good example of filmmakers going into a project not knowing what they're doing and finding their way to something beautiful by willfully engaging with all the possibilities.

I think one of my favourite parts of how they wrote this movie is that they kept it mostly to just Joy and Evelyn and their trying to connect and just... failing. The movie goes to all sorts of crazy places but the very beginning and the ending are directly tied together through this conflict and it just connects everything together and wraps the whole movie up with a cute little bow. The most multi-dimensional parts of this movie are the people. I wish every other movie was half as confident with it's writing.

It *is* weird that the same multiverse conceit that so many big media companies are jumping into as a vehicle for cash-grab entertainment was also the basis for two of the best movies of the past several years--and one of those was a Spider-Man movie. (I did not expect to see that connection to "The One", which also used the multiverse premise back in 2001. Just... not very well.)

This is the movie to buy the blu-ray of or catch it on its global theatrical rerelease that's starting soon. It's that good! Honestly, this is the movie we needed in a year where every film I've seen and album I've heard other than 2 have been kind of "*shrug* okay...?" I wanted to see The Northman, but after seeing this, it's like "NOPE, sorry, we've already found the winner, we can all go home!" Thank you for covering this movie. I could easily watch your 3 hour analysis of the movie but I’m happy with this as well. Keep up the amazing work.

I was lucky to see this film with my girlfriend a couple days before wide release in New York. It destroyed us. It was such an impactful and beautiful film.
