A lot of people have already expressed how tragic it was that Brandon Lee died during the making of this film. Another part of the tragedy that isn't mention is Michael Massee, who played Funboy in the film and was the one who fired the shot that killed Brandon. He was traumatized by what happened that he took a year off from acting and never watched the final film. In a 2005 interview, 12 years after the event, he revealed that he still had nightmares about it saying, "I don't think you ever get over something like that." It's sad to think that even up to his death, he was still haunted by it.

Another cast member impacted by Lee’s death was Rochelle Davis who played Sarah. Davis struggled with mental health & substance abuse in the years following the films release; on top of which she spent a period of time homeless. Loved this movie. Brandon died when I was on a WestPac deployment. Back in those days, news was scarce on my ship, but his death made the ship's paper. As a Bruce Lee fan since kidhood, it was a real kick to the gut to know that legacy had hit an end. The Crow came out right before I ended my active duty. I must have gone to the theaters twenty times. It was an amazing movie. My first love also loved the movie and I would quote mushy parts to her and she would do the same. So many great memories of this movie. It is loaded with my optimism of youth, my broken heart of losing my first love (we broke up, nothing sinister), and is a testament to the great human we lost when Brandon died. I wish we could have had a library of awesome Brandon movies, but this film was truly a gift.

This movie is based on an independent comic written and drawn by James O'Barr. After his girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver, he began developing the comic as a way of dealing with his anger, which, sadly, he said only further enhanced his rage. He also then read a newspaper story about an engaged couple who were murdered over a wedding ring and harnessed that in his story. After 7 years of trying to find a publisher for his comic, it was finally picked up by Caliber Press. Originally, the movie was being aimed as a direct-to-video release. During filming, Brandon Lee, the son of Bruce Lee and rising star who played Eric Draven in the film, was killed by an errant bullet struck him in the abdomen after a gun they had used as a time-saving measure was not inspected. The producers considered scrapping the movie entirely and Paramount Pictures pulled out of distributing the film, only for Miramax to step in with additional funding to complete the movie. Although Brandon Lee had already filmed most of his scenes, some of the shots ended up being filmed in silhouette with stunt actors and voices overlaid. The shot where he finally sees Sarah at the window is one such example. The movie ended up going on to make 4 times its budget and spawn 3 sequels and a TV series. A reboot of the original film has been in development hell for around 15 years. Also, this was Alex Proyas' first North American film. He later went on to co-write and direct 'Dark City,' another excellent film you should check out if you've never seen it before. That film was co-written by David Goyer, who wrote Blade around the same time and would go on to co-write Batman Begins and help develop the next two films in Nolan's Batman trilogy.

So from what I remember, he was killed because they used a revolver with dummy rounds that only had the primers. The dummy rounds are used strictly for visuals, so you can't see the obvious blank rounds when looking straight on. At some point, the trigger was pulled, and the primer had enough powder to push out the projectile to where it got lodged in the barrel. They then switched to the blank rounds that actually fire but don't have projectiles. But, in this case, it actually became a live round because of the projectile that was lodged in the barrel. So when the blank was fired, it propelled the projectile that was in the barrel like a regular bullet. I remember when this story broke, and I remember feeling so bad for his mom Linda and his sister Shannon. They had to deal with another untimely death.

Being the son of the greatest martial arts legend Brandon Lee left his own mark. You can see how The Crow influenced Ledger's Joker in the Dark Knight. The scene where Joker walks in to meet with the mafia bosses and druglords is similar when Eric goes after Skank, and also villian Top Dollar always talking about his dad like Joker did and Top Dollar actually did tell Eric "You have put a SMILE on my face." And tragically, Heath Ledger also dying young, as did Brandon Lee, WAY too many similarities. Both were 28 when they passed.

I grew up in the late 70’s and early 80’s, so I was a BIG fan of martial arts movies, and obviously became a HUGE fan of Bruce Lee. When his son wanted to make his own path in life, and stayed away from martial arts to try to break into movies his way, but knew that he could never escape his father’s legacy, he embraced it and did some pretty good martial arts movies, and was finally looking forward to breaking out in his own way with this film. I followed the progression of the movie in Black Belt Magazine, and remember hearing about his death on MTV, and then reading about in Black Belt Magazine. The director almost scrapped the movie, but wanted to honor Brandon Lee’s memory and his efforts he had put in the film by making some changes, and then continuing to make the movie. All of the interviews he did before he died while making the movie, you could really see how much he WANTED to make this film by the passion that exuded from him when he spoke about his character and just the atmosphere on set. Such a tragic loss, but a great legacy with ‘The Crow’.

One amazing, attention to detail moment in this film and one you wouldn't necessarily expect, similar to how the triage and life flight scene at the beginning of Robocop is one of, if not the most accurate medical scenes on film; here they show Eric rising from the grave, clearly having been sewn into his suit, which is precisely what morticians do. They cut down the back of the suits, dresses etcetera, in order to get the clothes on the corpse and then just stitch it together in a few places to hold them in place. Such a great, little detail, that's so unexpected and all the more amazing, given how brief both, Robocop's triage and Eric's rising from the grave scenes are. I would also recommend checking out the rest of Brandon's, all too short filmography, including the epically, it's so bad, it's awesome and have you laughing your ass off, Laser Mission!!! The great thing is, if you're not already laughing at the opening theme song, just stop and turn it off, but if you are, be prepared to pause often, so you can catch your breath from laughing too hard and needing to refresh your buzz with a couple of tokes, so you can process what you are experiencing and be instantly curious about what kind of insane shenanigans were going on behind the scenes, because at the very least we know it was edited by a 5year old.

Something a lot of people don't pick up, Eric takes out each one with their favorite things. Tin Tin with his own beloved blades Fun Boy with an overdose (pleasure seeking materialist, worried about wasting it) T-Bird with explosions and his car hes nicknamed for Skank meets terminal velocity just before he finishes (speed freak)

This movie was my entire personality at one point. Mix that with Sting with the black and white face paint and it was a done deal lol.

Great cast in this. Grange (the villain's bodyguard) was Tony Todd, who also played Candyman.

Fun fact: When Brandon Lee was tragically killed during the filming of this movie, his stunt double finished up the movie in Lee's place. That stunt double was Chad Stehelaski, the director of John Wick. So if you were wondering why they pushed all the actors to train with guns for the films? That is why.

RIP Brandon Lee. I have been obsessed with this movie and soundtrack since I was a kid. I was The Crow for my 7th grade Halloween dance (and none of the boys danced with me lol)! Finally got to see The Cure perform Burn live this past summer and it was amazing. My favorite gothic love story film and they should never ever try to remake this. James you MUST watch Addams Family Values next!!! My favorite movie ever as an awkward goth kid growing up. Perfect for Halloween weekend! ☺️🦇

I was OBSESSED with this movie when it was announced, and after I saw J.O. Barr's comic sitting on the shelves at my local comic shop, but it was in the area for adults only. I remember seeing on the news that Brandon Lee had tragically died after the on set firearm accident. I was in 8th grade going into my Freshman year of high school, and we had this huge party at school. My friends Mom picked us all up and we went straight to the theater opening night and it was PACKED. Our jaws dropped at how badass and emotional it was. Once I got the VHS I literally wore it out watching it every day. If you ever get a chance James watch the Director's commentary track with Alex Proyas.

Crow II - City of Angels is pretty good too.. BUT, the series goes down hill quick from there... --- What people forget about the graphic novels is that each story was a NEW Crow.. Another returned soul..

This is a Halloween movie, but it's not a horror movie, it's an adaptation of the most beautiful love story ever written.

Grew up with this movie and still probably my favorite superhero-esk movie, even after all of the marvel stuff. I mean, this thing has everything in it, and it's hard to pick it apart.

6:05 This is the first, and best, Assassin's Creed movie we've ever gotten down to the leap of faith off the building into rubbish below (which was omitted here, but follows the scene of Draven parkouring rooftop-to-rooftop).

Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, the Crow, is THE coolest movie character of all time. Nothing else comes close. There's a reason the wrestler Sting build most of his career off emulating that look, and a reason fans of the movie won't even give the new remake even the slightest chance. This is probably my favourite live-action movie ever, and that's saying a lot.
