The reason why the guns sounds so different compared to most other movies, is because that's how they really sound when you fire them. Michael Mann were planning on adding the gunshot sounds in post-production, but he felt it didn't sound realistic, so he decided to keep the real gunshot sounds they recorded when they filmed the scenes.
@Roddy556
@Roddy556 Жыл бұрын
This seems way cheaper and easier and this movie has some of the best sound going. I wonder why this isn't the norm.
@folkblues4u
@folkblues4u 8 ай бұрын
@@Roddy556probably has to do with the difficulty in extremes. Trying to record sound of voices with automatic rifle fire going on is something that takes very careful microphone placement and is probably very difficult to tune mic sensitivity for. For instance: If you had levels set to pickup someone screaming, then someone whispers, you're not going to pickup the softer sound.
@Roddy556
@Roddy556 8 ай бұрын
@@folkblues4u well even if it is much more difficult to achieve this balance I really enjoyed the atmosphere the sound brought. The Heat sound crew could probably have improved many of the gritty action movies of the time like Saving Private Ryan.

Actually hated the ending. It felt wrong for Neil's character. Like Mann just put it in there so the audience could have a showdown between Pacino and DeNiro. In reality, Neil would have done the smart thing and took the trip to New Zealand.

I honestly think we will never see a movie like this again, although this movie has been imitated so many times the juxtaposition of the typical dynamics and cliche stereotype mechanics they always put into modern day movies (and shows) will make it impossible to reach this level again.

I told my daughter the 30 second rule when she left for college in SF. NOT IF!! When you feel the heat coming, you need to bail... She actually did this at a party and told her friends she feels the heat coming... im jumping out this window and you need to follow me... they didnt believe her until she was gone in a poof. They all got arrested except my girl. She became a legend at the college for keeping her cool, never getting high, and keeping your wits together.

My best friend did that when we were in High school. We didn't have a car then & he would get rides from these shady guys at are school. He knew the risk but did it anyways cause he didn't want to ride the school bus. Anyways they stopped at a convenience store & those guys decided they were gonna robbed the store. He took off as they were going in & caught public transportation home. & never rode with those guys again

The effective range of a 12 gauge shotgun is 60-70 meters for a human target, or about 180-215ish feet. Lol I’ve bird hunted and shot clay pidgins all my life and can confirm this. It’s not going to be a tight grouping of bb’s at that range, but a buck shot pellet is pretty good sized and has a lot of gunpowder behind it, all it takes is just one in the throat or any other soft vital area to do the trick. Just a little free knowledge for you! Not trying to be a dick. I will say in most video games I’ve played they cut down the effective range of a shotgun quite a bit, so it’s easy to have that impression of them.

Shotguns aren't as short range as you guys think. Typical buckshot out of a 12 gauge shotgun only spreads about 1 inch per yard. That means all the pellets hit within about a 20 inch group at 20 yards (60 feet) away. Slugs can hit pretty accurately up to almost 100 yards away. You can definitely shoot across a street and get lethal hits with a shotgun loaded with buckshot. This movie represents shotgun combat much more accurately than most. In fact it's much more realistic with all the small arms combat than most films.

loved your guys reaction guys! this is one of my favorite films ever personally and always really love seeing peoples reactions to it. to your point about shot gun range i’m a bit of a gun nut and without getting into the nitty gritty, basically it depends on many factors (barrel length, type of shell loaded, choke in the barrel, etc) but shotguns are often used as you might know for bird hunting and trap shooting so it isn’t like call of duty, those pellets can travel pretty good (not nearly as far as a rifle round but still much further than commonly thought).

Al Pachinos character is high on coke in the movie (the actor told at their anniversery). That might be why he dared to take the shot. By the way: Michael Mann actually did this movie (more or less) before at a very limited budget (L. A. Takedown); hence, he new the story was good. This time with top actors and top budget.
