I just want to say as a viewer from Los Angeles who lives in Hollywood and attended the "Harvard of Film Schools" it's hilarious, totally refreshing, and a little worrying just how much more literate and intelligent the questions are from everyone in this video -- even the crowd questions are all fantastic. Hollywood could use a bit more of that literacy and intelligence, frankly. Great work. And of course, love Luca. (By the way, his assessment of film schools is 100% accurate in 2024.)

Amazing conversation and Luca is someone I would dream to have as a teacher or mentor. He is articulate and fascinating. Listening him speak is as good experience as listening to Guillermo Del Toro. And I also need to mention the poignant questions from Anupama. She is a fabulous interviewer truly showing her form. I think she passionately relates to Luca's film which resulted in such a great interview.

Interesting that the audiences in the theatre applauded and actively rallied when he dismissed film schools but hardly made a whimper when he recommended the alternative, which is that aspiring filmmakers should actively study older films and classical cinema. This may have something to do with the talk being set in Mumbai and the city's ethos.

I went to film school - utter waste of time. As soon as I had gotten on set, I realized how pointless it was to have a SCHOOL teach you how to make films. The reason we have so many great films is because we have so many great artists who pushed their personal boundaries. Schools don't do that - they teach you to follow creative "rules" - and such rules are cancer to the filmmaker.

@merlijnwillemsen6869 Maybe. But I guarantee you if you think the film program feels more essential to your growth, it's probably insanely expensive too. The only film programs like this are AFI and maybe UCLA and they are both like $300k to attend for two years 🥲

That's all .

It seems like the audience is only interested in learning how to shoot dance numbers for a stupid movie. It's a pity that India is not a great place for artists as they don't seem to understand the true meaning of art. In my opinion, the Indian film industry, in the north or south, is one of the least creative and imaginative in the world.

Anupama . . Dont you see the greats of your own country , say marathi , hindi or other film industries , to be given a platform like this , to interact with the actual students , instead of some pretentious wannabes !! I mean what good is a guy or a girl , born with a silver spoon , do to filmmaking !? How in the gods name do you see him or her contributing to the society !? And when are you going to find great regard in presenting your own people and showcasing their talent to the world through this medium !? I mean why do you look down upon them !? Or isnt your will or research good enough to reach the corners of india , to find the real talent and give them this much needed exposure for the benefit of the people like me , who are starving to interact with the likes of my own kind , rather than pilling up these international personalities on us , who are equally grand , but let us first come across and take pride in our fellow countrymen , and then move on to the universe , what say !? You have any problem with that !?
