The counterfeiter John Vogel was actually a rather interesting person. His daughter wrote a book about him, called Flim Flam Man, and there is a good article about him she wrote for the Stranger Magazine available free online. He never hurt anyone, and just seemed one of those lost people and if they just applied their energy to something legal could have accomplished something positive. He robbed his first bank to buy Christmas gifts for his family. Seems like a Walter White kinda guy. Edit: I realized writing this that terrifying people during a robbery is a form of violence. I was thinking physical violence.
