I cried through most of the movie every time I've watched it, but I think the bit that still hits the hardest is seeing "Proof that Tony Stark has a heart" floating in the water. It started with Iron Man 1, and it was the most tragically fitting that it end with Tony's ultimate sacrifice, and ultimate redemption for all the times he'd been selfish and decidedly non-heroic.

"I don't really know how to open this video" - and Johnathan never did. Truly one of KZbin's greatest mysteries, so I'll take a stab at what he may have wanted to say in his video essay. "Marvel is good, me like the films, me think they do the action and smiles and sads really well and good, me think metal fly fast man have the good heart and do ending well" I might be paraphrasing Johnathan's inner thoughts a little, but I'm confident that's what he may have gone for. In all seriousness, this was an amazing video essay and Johnathan has done a tremendous job at highlighting the complexity behind it's structure and given a truly fun and nuanced look into one hell of a finale. Great work. xx

Videos like this remind me why i got so emotional watching this in the theater. It was an ending well done with tears that were earned. I would gladly recommend this video to those who wrote off the marvel films as “not my thing” or “not cinema”. This is why i go to see a movie in a theater and not on a phone or an ipad. I go for a story that will move me.

Put very simply (at least about this amazing essay's final point), what Tony gains is: 1. Closure with his abandonment issues with his father, and 2. A sense of HOPE. He has not had a sense of hope whatsoever, not since his parents were killed. I can't believe I'm just finding this essay. It's wonderful. Avengers Endgame has various plot flaws. But I wholeheartedly agree that it's EMOTIONAL punch is why it's such a satisfying and successful finale.

This really is a great video. I love how you consider this to be the real end, although Disney is definitely going to try and recreate this in the future. Some might say it will never be as good and big as Endgame, and I'd like to think they're right, although I think they might have a chance. In 2008, who thought we'd have a real Cinematic Universe? Who'd have thought a big Avengers film would actually be good? Who would've thought it could be even bigger, and even bigger after that? Who'd have thought there would be an actual end to the arcs of so many beloved characters? 12 years ago, nobody would have even imagined something like Endgame would happen. Looking back on it, it is very obvious that many set-ups were done without anything real in mind (the after credits of the first Avengers film is one of the most obvious examples). From now on, they will definitely plan it more carefully, so who knows what we'll get in another 15 years?

Endgame was a very fitting finish to the MCU we've come to know and love. I had very few issues with it. Except for Larson's terrible Capitan Marvel (albeit in small scenes) some of what they did with Thor and Hulk not having much of a storyline, the rest of the movie was exactly what I wanted. 8 out of 10.

This was to me the last MCU movie to me. Because without Tony, Steve, Natasha and T Challa, the MCU will never be the same again. Especially when Kang was behind the scenes such as Peter Quill hitting Thanos was part of his plan, Black Widow and Iron Man sacrifice is now pointless. Phase 4 may have started good but The Three Phases will still be a part of my lifetime.
@TheRealAdaWong

I think for the little Marvel did for Black Widow in the overall, Avenger’s was just as equally her story by Endgame. She gave Hulk sense of mind after recruiting him, denied Tony in retrospect for the Avengers after goading out his worst demons, and showed Rogers the meaning of loyalty in hard times. “Thank you for your cooperation” doesn’t fully deliver in Black Widow but it does across the Marvel Cinematic Universe every-time she makes her next move. Rather talking down the Prince of Wakanda, or betraying Black Panther and the pro-registration with a Widow’s bite. Or declaring war on the deadliest of the Black Order’s Proxima Midnight. Black Widow was THE ultimate Avenger. Marvel and Scarlett Johansson brought to life a true one time character that’ll take years to follow up.

Why did Thanos not use the stones to increase the quantity of resources in the universe? Rather than eliminating half the population. I suspect it's due to the trauma of losing his world. In his mind, they died because they didn't listen to him. Deep down, being right about the solution is more important to him than finding a preferred solution.

I do think endgame is a perfect finale for all of the characters leaving (even black widow) but unfortunately only the end of the film makes it so. The beginning of the film picks up that break neck pace from infinity war and it's engaging and exciting. But then slows to a stop when our main villain dies five minutes into the movie. After that the pace doesn't quicken until ant-man shows up but even then its still very slow and even boring at times. Captain America and iron mans falling out, which has shaped almost all the films of phase three, is resolved in a matter of seconds. The last time they were together they almost killed eachother yet the film acts like the conflict was a petty argument that only requires a "sorry" to fix. And the overusage of jokes has once again proven to be Marvel's biggest flaw. You can't take the film seriously. Even when it wants to be serious it ruins the moments with a joke seconds after. And even without any jokes the audience now thinks they're watching a comedy so now they too don't take it seriously. Thor, for the first time in the MCU has gained respect and finally found the perfect balance between humor and actual characterization in infinity war. But has now been reduced to nothing more than a joke to laugh at. Hulk has also been reduced to nothing. There is no Hulk it's just Bruce killing the Hulk and giving him no actual ending. The struggle of Bruce living with Hulk is destroyed and gives a satisfying end to only one of their characters. The time travel arc is great, however the stakes are not raised at all. It would work for a film like ant-man or GOTG but not for the climax to 11 years of films. Once again nothing is taken seriously and you don't feel like everything is on the line. It feels like a generic popcorn flick that, even when something goes wrong, it really doesn't and isn't that impactful or meaningful. We aren't even reintroduced to our villain until halfway through the film who is now just a shell of his infinity war counterpart. The main villain of the MCU has become just another thing for the heroes to punch who is bad for the sake of being bad. Various motives such as holding respect for the Avengers and being an emotional and even sympathetic villain are thrown out the window. Black widows death, although fitting, is unfortunately rushed and the film went back to cracking jokes two minutes later as if nothing significant had happened. And the final battle is also just a victory lap. Nothing dangerous happens. The heroes punch and shoot and blow up the bad guys until they win. There's almost no struggle. Again, the ending is great but everything before that in this film is, for the most part, just insignificant fluff. I felt like this film still managed to win the race but stumbled and fell right before the finish line.
