Stories where the parents are good, supportive people are ironically the biggest breath of fresh air to a horror-based story; too often abusive and/or negligent parents are such a tired trope at this point.

The fact that L30 made an analogue story that not only is a horror, but is real and grounded in a problem many people face is amazing. Its even more amazing that he hides so many details, but i think the most beautiful part of it, is that where most analogue horror creators would have left a bad and tragic ending, L30 took the opportunity to not only show the world of these problem, but also show that you can get help and grow.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how Lee doesn’t demonize these disorders, I have someone in my life that I’m close to that has schizophrenia and any time I tell someone they assume they’re crazy and it’s really sad. Because of how close this person is to me and my family it closely affects my life, especially during their episodes and it sucks. I’m only 14 and I’m having to deal with their manic state and at one point, shutting them out completely until they get better. So giving out correct information about these disorders and not just demonizing them is really helpful, so again thank you

@@dragonofdesire A non-stigmatized exploration of mental illness is valuable to anyone, even at a young age. This video shows that there is hope and that things can, and likely will, get better. A good lesson for a young person who might already be suffering from some symptoms. While mania and schizophrenia *usually* don't manifest until the very late teens or twenties, depression and severe anxiety disorders very often hit younger people. One of my earliest core memories is from a preschool age where I try to explain my depression to my parents. They didn't get it at all, understandable because this was in the 1960s before good information about mental illness was commonaly available. Now that it is, it should be passed on to people who might be affected. At the age of 39 I was diagnosed with bipolar and it has made my life so much better. Treatment as a teenager or younger would have made my life a lot better in those intervening years Sadly, this was not likely, or even possible in the 60s and early 70s.

@Yarnagan17 күн бұрын
I came down to the comments to make sure someone had said exactly this. Many people with a wide range of mental health issues choose not to take their medications for any number of reasons, like thinking they don't need it (either that they didn't need it in the first place or that it's cured them and they don't need it anymore) or not liking the way it makes them feel. Many also just struggle to keep up with taking them if they don't have someone to help them, but I'd think this wouldn't apply to Riley, her parents probably pick up the prescription and remind her to take them.

The self-help number being here surprised me and I got warning when I clicked the video too 😭 I have an anxiety disorder and I always appreciate that when the Theorists go into topics of mental health like the Smile one and the Spiderverse one, they handle the topics with such care and research. They don’t try to downplay or sugarcoat these topics to make them fit a theory,or in any way insult those who actually have them-And this video is another example of that. It also serves to spread awareness of mental health in an understandable,intresting way to those who might’ve otherwise gone misled on the reality of mental health disorders/illnesses. I think that by relating these topics to fictional characters,it gives people a great perspective on the struggle and an example on how to be empathetic.

This is why most ADHD and AuDHD individuals get misdiagnosed with bipolar the first time. When I was 15 I was misdiagnosed with bipolar and was out on a bunch of different medications (including Seroquel),then later found out I wasn't bipolar at all, just on the spectrum of AuDHD. Later in college while getting my degree in psychology I learned that ADHD and it's counterparts is one of the most misdiagnosed forms of disorders in kids, teen, and adults. Misdiagnosing can lead to so much pain and agony
@aqwkingchampion13Ай бұрын
And to make it even more complicated, sometimes it goes both ways, not getting diagnosed with it if you have it, or getting diagnosed when you don’t. I was diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar because I was bored re-learning everything over and over in class and, after getting my work done, would try to occupy myself. I don’t even remember exactly how I was ‘disrupting class’ according to them because all of the medications they put me on (at age 6!) can have negative effects on memory, even if you’re supposed to be taking them, and especially if you aren’t. My memory is still garbage now, 20 years later.

13:44 I've been through many, many trials of antidepressants and mood stabilizers, and this is completely accurate. It's very much a trial and error thing, no single medication works for everyone
@Freedomfred25Ай бұрын
Yeah and I didn’t have any improvements until I got on 5 different meds so it’s definitely a trial thing
@lacytaylor1501Ай бұрын
I've been through so many different meds over my years of dealing with my mental health. I've had ones that messed with my heart rate for some reason, ones that made me so lifeless it was terrifying, and one time I had a strange reaction where my medication was causing my eyes to constantly look upwards to the point trying to force them to look straight hurt almost as much as them being stuck. The trials of trying to find the right medicine for your mental health can be tough but I finally found the best solution for me after so many years.

This is actually so smart. I've never imagined how the inside of someone's head who has a mental disorder/illness would look like, and now that I have, it is horrifying.

As someone who has struggled with psychosis, this is so refreshing to see. It's handled so well by our host here and the way the horror doesn't demonize Riley for having it is so nice to see. I've never felt so oddly validated by a horror, but I love it

So did my gramma. I understand. Her inner circle did their very best to keep her grounded, even with meds. She got much better and quit sugar (which triggered some of it!), but the impact it left on her family is long-lasting. RIP, Gramma.

As someone who has gone through depressive episodes, I agree with the what you’re talking about, specifically the finding a different medication solution. When I first started My Anti-Depressents I felt awful, the tablets I was taking were making me worse, but eventually I found medication that worked and now I’m 10 months into the medication and I have never been as happy as I feel today in the past few years. I’ve had really bad days but I’ve had good people to support me and I hope those who need support find it and begin to heal like I have.

This topic is so important. Thank you to the theorists team for taking this so seriously. I work in the criminal justice system in Canada, right on the front lines in courtrooms. Our mental health system is absolutely failing, and people aren't getting the help they need. I see it in victims of crime, I see it in those who are committing such crimes, and I'm seeing it in the general public all around me. I'm currently dealing with my own problems with the help of my family. Mental healthcare is real healthcare and must be taken seriously. Untreated mental health problems can cause unemployment, isolation, being on other health conditions, and cause death. North America is struggling immensely with treating mental health and I thank you for taking the time to cover not only an interesting look into a fascinating take on emotions within these Disney movies from a talented artist, but also for taking it so seriously.

Last year I was diagnosed, with schizoaffective disorder and while it might sound crazy this arg and this episode makes me feel so seen. For years I thought my life would be limited if I sought help but I was wrong. When I finally got thr courage to ask my doctor about hallucinations I had been having for years along with delusions of manifestations of my psyche out to get me, I was able to get diagnosed and the help I needed. It took months to find what worked for me but it was worth it even if it was really scary at first. I think as heavy as the topic was with how this episode was handled, it will help a lot of people and I'm grateful for the exposure. There aren't enough outlets letting people know these disorders are natural and can be managed

I'm glad you guys did this episode. I had a very very terrible childhood and, while it's not diagnosed yet, I'm pretty sure that I am bipolar. I was recently finally able to escape my mother and stepfather and my life has significantly improved since I've moved in with my bio dad. Having people that actually care about me around that are actually concerned about my health and safety edit on top of the stability of staying in one place and not constantly moving has done wonders for me. I also grew up in a constant state of physical pain because of some underlying health issues that I'm finally seeing a doctor for. Once we treat those I'm going to start seeing the therapist. I thank God everyday that she's finally helped me find some peace. Everyone in the community please wish me luck. Beyond that everyone thought your support to all the people that are suffering out here after both hurricanes hit.

though I don't struggle with psychosis, I'm currently in the midst of a major mental health crisis and relate to a lot of the things you describe in this video, and your genuine and encouraging words towards the end of the video were very kind. I'm fortunate to have a good support system like Riley does, and I'm attempting to get the help I need, but as youve said treating mental disorders, even properly diagnosed ones, is hard. I hope everyone who's going through something like this is able to get better, because even if it doesn't feel like it, you will find something that works ❤
