RMB sharing the details and coincidence of his dream about Wish Master following the chat is currently my favorite Versus moment to date. The man speaks with such experience, knowledge, and eloquence, while in the very real persona of a little kid. He is an official national treasure.

In the prologue, they had a scene from the butlerian jihad, and they had humans fighting robots with swords. They were charging a huge war machine with blades hahaha.

Honestly I hate Brian Herbert's Dune "books" and his entire take on the Butlerian Jihad. He turned the whole thing into Skynet. It's been done to death. I always got the impression it was a cultural war within humanity (people who *wanted* to use thinking machines versus people who didn't).
@default_doppelganger5 күн бұрын
@@dante6985 I doubt very much that he wrote much, if anything and while I read the entire OG Frank Herbert Dune books, even the more drug addled later ones, I have never read the Brian Herbert ghost written books.

I saw Chris Evans in my hometown of northern Greece alongside some other people last month. They were shooting the up and coming Sacrifice movie at the old mines of volakas. I've got to say the man can blend in, as we didn't understand it was him at first. He seems very polite and has a great smile. 😁

For some reason this got past people -> Technology did not advanced much in 10,000 years because of the ban on robots/AI. It makes sense. Look at how mad the mother got when the kid had a robot toy? It was all banned. I enjoyed the first episode.

I guess it's weird to me in the fact it's a 6 episode season. Now I like Mark Strong, but he's a bit off in this so far. I REALLY like Travis Fimmel, but it's a little too much "raised by wolves" for me. It was fine in Raised by Wolves, but it just well anyway. I don't see how they are going to tell any story of consequence in the next 5 episodes. The best parts of episode 1 was the very beginning and the very end. The entire middle was boring except for the "pet" ... which as outlawed as AI was it just seems like the kid would have been executed as it was almost the end of everything because they just told us. I would have rather seen a series about the AI type stuff and the revolution against that.
@tosweetdelight10 күн бұрын
I agree with all of this. I'm a big fan of the Dune series - read through God Emperor multiple times, as well as some supplemental material. This was not great. Mark Strong seemed too stiff or something. Fimmel - Raised by Wolves 2.0. Beginning good - end good. The rest was very dull. I also find it hard to believe that the boy would not have been immediately and severely punished for having a thinking machine. The quality was not up to snuff, either, imo. It felt more like something you might watch on basic cable - I expect a lot from an HBO/Max series, and this fell short.

Can we stop calling it an adaption, please? Its "adaptation" not "adaption". I know Gary and Co. confusedly say it because they talk quickly and they're used to it, but its not the proper word. ADAPTATION. There's a movie about the practice from 2002, if you need confirmation

Do you know how amazing a thriller miniseries in the vein of conclave meets Dune could be?! One of the more fascinating stories in the Dune universe is the writing of the Orange Catholic Bible, the seminal text for most of humanity by the time Paul is born. The CET and all the drama and tragedy they experience when crafting this syncretic text, and how this interweaves with the aftermath of the Butlerian Jihad, the rise of the various orders, the stagnation and regression of technology, not to mention what subtle influences the Bene Geserit would exert over it as the Azhar book is said to be the most complete archive of spiritual and religious thought for all mankind, though none but the Bene Geserit would be able to confirm that.

I agree they did not generate a "hook" that drew the viewer into the story. The lack of cultural and technical evolution over 10,000 years was also unbelievable, but it's on Frank Herbert if he wrote it that way. There is a tendency for people who have read a book and seen the movie to prefer the book. This is especially true for sci-fi with its idiosyncratic world-building. This story seems slow due to the difference between feature films and series. A successful series has to be a collection of stand-alone films, but often, the plot arc can't sustain an eight or ten-hour expansion without creating a soap opera of character subplots. "The Penguin" is the exception showing how to do it right. Dune: Prophecy is good but not great if you can overlook these flaws. I won't feel bad if I don't catch every episode as it drops, but it can potentially gain an audience now that the exposition dump is done. The comments on new writers using AI were also informative. The key is to develop a prompt chain and process that leverages AI's ability to hold the entire script context in its mind. The most essential prompt is the "style" prompt that differentiates between an amateur and a pro script. You never have to worry about writer's block with AI at your side.

1:29:35 I know Chris Gore is a Musk meat rider but what gave him the idea that he cares what people think? Like all of Musk's changes to twitter have been hugely unpopular. Monetization that turned twitter into a bot fam, removing visible likes because he was caught liking something embarassing, changing the block function, anything he does with the AI on the site...

Example of a Brian Herbert book: Young Duke Leto after his father is killed by the bull is making decisions with the help of the brother and sister prince and princess of Richiese who has been given refuge after the population on their planet rebel by young Duke Leto. Not with his father's former advisors but he and the other two royal teens, like a Hardy Boys Nancy Drew story. Bad fan fiction.

Dune Prophecy would have always suffered the brunt of the damage of Denis Villeneuve's vanity projects called Dune. His world building is minimal and he likely has final say as to what goes in and what doesn't. Its basically Denis Villeneuve's Dune now. Frank Herbert who?? Ridiculous series, ridiculous films, ridiculous director who took a gold diamond and somehow turned it to shit

The guy in the green shirt is mental. Hollywood has no respect because they don't listen to fans. Also, who has physical books anymore? My sister reads something like 10 books a week and I have not seen her with an actual paper book in ages. In reality if you see a guy with a big book collection on display, odds are he's a psychopath and only purchased the books for decoration.
