Filter interview Experience- RAF

Hello everyone! I am going through the selection process for Engineer officer (CE) and thought of sharing my experience. It will be beneficial for people who are going through the selection. Please share your experiences too. It will be great to help each other and get through these selection stages as a team.

The first half of the Interview is about your life due to it's fast paced nature it's worth knowing the dates that you did things for example Duke Of Edinburgh in June 2003, London Marathon May 2005 etc.(first half is focused on your life from age 11 to 18) Questions: What positions of responsibility, if any did you have while at school? What part time jobs did you have, if any while at school? What sporting achievements, if any while at school? What adventure training have you been involved in, if any while at school? These questions will also be asked about your college/sixth form and university life. They want to see what opportunities you've had to get involved in activities in your life. They want to know about any previous jobs, any significant achievements, charity events, travel, sports or education you've undertaken. The second half of the interview is about your motivation to join. You will be asked: Why do you want to join the RAF? Why you want to do that specific branch/role? How have you substantiated your application? Visited any stations? Why do you want to be an Officer? What are your strengths/weaknesses? What Phase 1 (IOT/RTS/NCAITC) training will you undergo? What Phase 2 training will you undergo? What happens after your training? Where can you get posted? How is the RAF structured? Who is the CAS? What aircraft does the RAF have? What roles do this aircraft perform? What new aircraft are coming into service? What is air power? What operations have the RAF been involved in? What is NATO? When was it formed? Finally you need 5 Global, 5 UK based current affairs. You will need to name these quickly off the top of your head (North Korea's Nuclear Armament, UK Brexit Negotiations for example.) The interviewing officer will pick one from each and ask you about it in detail. ( I have spoken to few people who are involved in recruitment and they suggested to avoid trump and brexit topics) Good luck !

when u say mandatory questions about drugs etc what type of questions do u mean?

Hey there, I know they ask you questions about aircrafts. Do you think it is necessary to go in depth for each and every single aircrafts? eg: how fast it is or the weight or the engine etc? or is it ok just to have an understanding of what they are and what they are used for? your help will be appreciated. thank you.

@@khxlilmusic243 interview went fine. I had 3 topics and he asked me on the one I knew the least about but still got there. You'll want to know the topics in depth. If it's about a British threat then they may ask you why they're believed to be a threat or where the raf are situated in the tension. Don't use brexit or US politics as they will just blow over then and ask something different or fail you because they've heard the same topic a thousand times. You can reinterview if they think you have potential in another role, for me this was Air Operations. Just make sure you know exactly what you're talking about it, and be confident. First impressions are everything firm, not aggressive, handshake, smile and answer all questions. This is a very formal interview, suits are not over the top. Unfortunately I failed the next step which was my medical, I have an issue with my patella under load. They will make you duck walk and yes you look stupid doing it. If you're applying I wish you luck, I moved on to be a student paramedic instead.

@@darkelemental thanks for the response mate. I appreciate the advice, and sorry to hear medical reason held you back :( but happy to hear you found something else to do! I’m in a weird boat atm- I’ve specifically arranged to have medical before interview so I’ve got that soon, then onto my interview. Hopefully it goes well. Good luck with your paramedic training.

@@abdullahzuru165 I applied end of august, for pilot. Got a response September. Just ask your AFCO. COVID has slowed a lot of things down and some people have been lucky. Best of luck mate

Anna I did my filter interview in July 2017. So I chose topics like Catalonia, ransomware attack on NHS, denial of licence extension for Uber in London by TFL,grenfell, London and Manchester terrorist attacks etc. I avoided brexit,military and trump topics as suggested by many people I spoke to.

Steve hey Steve! I went for selection in January.. didn’t do very good in hangar exercises so I have been invited back in July again for OASC. I have applied for engineer officer(CE). If you have any questions about OASC let me know, I will be happy to help.

Mistake .... To be a LEADER you do not have to be an OFFICER....IT is the Experienced N.C.O's who whip the Walking Uni Graduates with all their fancy training into shape and make the Officers who mainly with a few exceptions are simply Shit Conveyors Belts. I was an Eng Mech in the R,A.F. and having been on operational Sqdns on active service Air Crew very quickly learnt that we worked better as a TEAM...so give us respect and we will give respect back.... They might be able to fly a plane BUT that does NOT make them a LEADER...... DO NOT BREAK MY AIRCRAFT was our parting comment.
