A new horror film franchise was born in the year 2000; the Final Destination franchise. These films used the idea of 'death by design' and that if you escape a death that was 'meant for you', it will catch up with you sooner rather than later. Each film starts with a 'visionary' character / protagonist that has a premonition of an accident or disaster about to happen. They go on to act to save that disaster from happening and thus save a group of characters (that typically also make up the cast of the film). However, the consequence is that all the visionary has done is delayed the fate of the people that survive the disaster. Death was meant for them. And it is still coming for them.... one by one in the order that was originally envisioned by our main protagonist.
Interestingly, the idea for these films actually came from an unproduced script for the X-Files TV series (written by Jeffrey Reddick). The film franchise has since gone on to gross $666,766,477 worldwide. It's New Line's third most successful horror franchise behind only IT and The Conjuring films.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my ranking of these movies, from my least favourite to my favourite. I also include a rating for each visionary (a score out of ten) as I reveal my ranking of each film.
So..... which movie is my favourite? And which visionary will get my highest score? Tune in on 25 October to find out!
