My biggest question at this point is why does it start with ARR this could have been a great way to let players see the story of 1.0 without the issues that 1.0 had. I’m not asking for 1.0 mechanics but actually being able to have the story and cutscenes without some bootleg copy from 12 years ago would be nice

Pretty sure it's because they don't have any of 1.0 stuff. My understanding from the documentaries is that they kept none of it. The desire to experience the 1.0 story (while knowing no one wants to experience the nightmare that the 1.0 game was) has been made known since even ARR but has just not been possible to perform even if Yoshida wanted to.

Honestly, there are enough MMRPGs on mobile that I don't doubt they can make a damn pretty good mobile version. It's the business model that makes me skeptical.

Though there's alot of MMOrpg on mobile but most of them .... well sucks, hence its a market space that have alot of revenue potential. If they monetize it well, FFXIV Mobile can easily be the king of Mobile MMORPG no contest

I agree about being skeptical. I am also concerned that in a way this goes against yoshis claim that he would rather see the game shut down than go free to play. While technically this is a different version he is still trying to provide the same experience which makes this concerning and that means there's potential for the current main game to go free to play at some point down the line, especially if the mobile version becomes more successful. I'm also concerned about resources that good have go e to the main game being used for this mobile version as well, while it may be a different studio developing it they still require feedback and attention from certain key individuals within creative business unit 3 and with extra work on their plate they may not have the time to fully plan out certain aspects of future content.

Yes it will be F2P. Yoshida says said that the game will be monetized. But we don't know what form that will be. He did say they want to provide an authentic FFXIV experiendreon mobile and only take a small amount of money from its players. Could be a battle pass, or just charge for a lot of cosmetics that are free in the main game like dyes and glamour prisms. We don't know yet.

@@SuperRamos619my money's on it being time gated, like a stamina system you can pay to refill kind of deal. Those are super common in the mobile space and are the primary form of monetization outside of gacha and cosmetics.

@InnocentGuillotine the interview makes it seem like their goal isn't to fleece you for money. It's to reproduce FFXIV on mobile, faithfully. Stamina system isn't going to be part of it I'm sure. They'll just charge for cosmetics, since it'd a huge part of FFXIV. And people are already willing to pay more for outfits and mounts and even 1 time consumable dyes. They will also probably have a monthly recurring fee for extra retainers as well. There's plenty of ways to nickle and dime players that want to pat without compromising the mobile experience.

I have a feeling it'll be Free to play akin to how FFXIV pc ver of Free to play. i.e most of the stuff you can do but alot of the functions is blocked by sub payment. Given how he mentions small but steady profit, i'm inclined to believe it'll be similar to PC ver where there's Free to play and Sub but for mobile ver the sub hopefully is inexpensive maybe less then $8 per month is reasonable

So this if pulled off will be like MLBB on mobile, they did it before Riot could to LoL mobile and took the mobile MOBA meta over and literally killed it's other mobile competitors. Since Blizzard didn't announce WoW mobile, now this puts them on the hot seat and if this goes well, would destroy any hopes of WoW mobile becoming a thing.

yeah, they gave a very vague answer which made me worried. I am actually thinking if this would not have gacha system, it might probably have battle pass system, and also the worst case scenario, they would make the marketplace have exclusive currency which can only be bought by real money. Hope these are not the case.

I'm guessing this is primarily for the Japanese market? I feel like in the west most gamers are PC and console gamers, while mobile gamers are in the minority (obviously, depends on how you define "gamers." I don't include those who occasionally play games like candy crush or angry birds as "gamers," because they would never spend a large sum of time on an RPG anyway).

I believe players will need one of those plugin controllers for the phones just to play this game. Not sure if a controller overlay will be beneficial for a phone screen with this kind of gameplay Also, there seems to be no Hrothgars in this game yet so no go for me. XP

It looks like it’s going to directly replicate the game’s release cadence with it’s patches and expansions in order starting with ARR. This is why you only see the starting races and classes that were introduced with ARR. All of that will come later just like it did originally.

@@AshleyVsTheWorld it really is a matter of monetization.. the development work, cost of putting designers and programmers on fixing hats.. vs using those resources to make new hats for other races, new content, tapping into a massive mobile market.. you get it. For quality they might put one person to work on the hat issue and it'll be a low priority one at that. It's just how businesses work

Passing up on as well. I already have a Google Chromecast with PXPlay, a tablet with the same-both run fine! Just use PXPlay or Steam Link and pack a controller, so long as you have wifi it's not an issue at all

Lightspeed Studios are the ones that approached Square Enix has said in the interview. That means that Lightspeed Studios paid SE to use the FFXIV IP, which also means the money for development of the game comes from Lightspeed, your FFXIV money wasn't spent on this
