Unlike many who only distill their inability to criticize something in a concise way and always sending the old catchphrase “If it's AI, it's bad”, I say, it's very good, in fact it's almost perfect, taking into account that I've seen many attempts by other guys here on youtube and that they failed, not only you managed to get the details of the stroke right (respecting the original stroke and even updating it), congratulations, my only criticism is that it still needs more polishing in the smaller details (I work with AI and I know that it is a disgrace to get these points right), some are indented and others do not fit the correct point of the orinigal persona, but I think that in theory is FF7 REMAKE syndrome, the initial shock passes quickly.

Try to keep the animations more restrained, like at most going for something like it was in Coral, animations are still a dream for AI (we're almost there, that's for sure), Beatrix's was perfect, but it still blurred erratically in the motion blur.

Oh definitely! I try to keep it simple, sometimes keeping more complex because I thought it was baddass - just like it happened on Gau from FF6 and Beatrix here.

I would love for a ff9 remake, but keeped more true to the oringal story then ff7 remake/rebirth has done so far. Can make it a 3 parter like ff7re, like part 1 will be up to when team leaves mist continent, then part 2 will go till they go to Gaia.

The old characters have charm, the only two that felt the same way to me (I'm biased af) were Freya and Vivi. Dagger/Beatrix/Eiko don't look bad, but too anime for my taste and I thought Steiner was terrible looking :D

Just in my eyes Kuja, cid are great! Freya, Vivi, Amarant and Quina are good. Steiner is good, but he looks like a man in different ethnicity from the origin version. Dagger, Eiko and Beatrix's 3D model looks like characters seen in Chinese mobile games. Zidane looks like a girl, I prefer the type like Kuja or Tida in FF10.

Zidane was officially done by Square Enix for Dissidia, not me, Steinner has other commenters also saying he looks Mongolian, so you're absolutely not alone in that. I will strive to improve.

I hope they just remake it from ground up, Fix the bugs and situations where you soft lock certain quest but keep the Turn based combat and everything else. Maybe tone down the Bosses just a little.

My thoughts exactly, I'm like you hoping - the trouble is I don't think they think gamers care for turn base anymore, and to a large extent they are right. People only go for flashy now, and tactical is now boring. I oppose it and prefer Turn Based but it is what it is :/

It wasn't the AI. Freya was a lot done manually because AI was kinda... taking a lot of inspiration from furry stuff, let's just say. I did her the best I could, and if you check the ears you see it's more of a ferret - which was the race I used to inspire myself with that long snout she has.

Why is every character in a different art style?

I opted to follow the cartoonish style in the original FF9 title, while Square Enix, on the 2 characters they officially remade for FF Dissidia (Zidane and Kuja) opted for a more realistic version, more in line with FF7. So this is why my characters and the officials may have a different feel. In the end it was a creative decision I made because I opted to follow more the traditional style.

They look interesting. I mean Beatrix, Sid, Amarant and Eiko look almost perfect. But Beatrix should have a breastplate like in the original. Amarant should have hair like in the original. And Sid and Eiko looks really good. I can't imagine how difficult it was. What AI did you use? But: Steiner became a knigh of the Mongol-Tatars. And Freya grew breasts and became more like a mouse, not a rat. She should get her natural rat nose back. It feels like we are looking at them after a long time has passed. But it's not bad. Overall they look good.

Eiko, Beatrix, Amarant, Regent Cid and Garnet came out looking really amazing. Quina and Queen Brahne could’ve looked more truer to their original in-game or FMV models but not bad nonetheless. It’s almost impossible to mess up Vivi so he still came out pretty good lol. But Steiner was my least favorite. His original character design is just weird to begin with so I could see how it was probably really difficult to adapt it to modern software with realistic dimensions.

Interesting perspective. So much hate in the comments. Yeah, ai, so what, as if big companies don't use it in their own games and work. They do, and we'll never know on which parts exactly bc they'll never tell. Anyway, just a fun perspective on how characters might look in the remake, nothing else. It's always nice to fantasize from time to time. I actually liked Amarant and Cid. Looked nice. Garnet and Eiko as well. The rest are questionable, but ok, that's ai, it's hard to make it do things right without proper after-modeling reworking on mistakes, especially if the initial resource is a bit "ugly". So yeah, i'm fine with these.

As someone who also prefers the laidback and quaint art style of the original FF9, I think it'd be better if you remake all the characters, not just the ones that didn't get an official remake. A reminder for all the haters out there FF9 went for the more cartoon art style so these characters aren't suppose to look realistic!! You wanna argue more realistic look and appeal then design these character models for yourselves and you'll see how much horrible these characters look when they're more realistic especially Freya and Quina!! As for the creator these actually aren't bad!! They could be done better but I understand there's only so much 1 person can do compared to a team of hundreds!!!

Yeah exactly this, Dissidia's models (Zidane and Kuja) were more of a realistic look more in line with FF7, but I actually like the look and feel of the cartoonish versions of the game and think they add soul to FF9 as opposed to most others. If you look at my video for FF8 I made them more realistic, but for FF9 I thought the cartoonish almost pokemon-like look suited them better. In the end, it's a creative decision, and yes I gave it my all.

You have no clue how many hours I spend doing these. AI is just part of the toolkit and one of the many tools I use. Not only that, I do this with passion and as a hobby, I'm not a team of 500 character designers like for big games and still I do my best for people to enjoy. If you don't like it, put a dislike and go on your way, no need to be rude for someone just having fun with their hobby and showing it to people who can appreciate it.
